Hey Matt! I just made this and it turned out AWESOME! I altered your recipe just a touch....I didn't think you would mind......I added a cup and a half of raisins and a cup of coarsely chopped pecans. I'm really pleased! Thank you for all that you do, sharing all of these great recipes! YEAH!!!
Matt the way that I have always made this is to melt the butter on low in a small sauce pan and then add cinnamon and sugar and mix well. Yours looked like it wasn’t mixed thoroughly. I think the heat melts the sugar, kinda creates a caramel ish mixture. Oh and pour all of the butter and brown sugar/ cinnamon sugar mixture in there. You left the good stuff in the bowl, what was poured in was mostly just butter.
You can certainly do it that way if you like. :) This recipe has a higher ratio of melted butter to brown sugar than others. It is supposed to be like that. With that said you can make that part however you like. :)
I learned to simmer my butter and brown sugar a little bit so it doesnt seperate, that way when it bakes it almost hardens up on the monkey bread and isnt so wet. That would be the one change id make to your recipe
If you don't use as much butter, it won't be that wet. But I like it like this. :) And you can make it more like a paste like for cinnamon rolls, and you get the same effect like you are referring to. It winds up being more like this recipe th-cam.com/video/9WGDz3t1H8I/w-d-xo.html
This is such a great recipe I do all the things you did in the video except for I add a little twist, where I put cream cheese in the middle of the biscuit before baking...so good

So many ppl I know have never heard of monkey bread. It's soooo good and a delicious treat especially for the holidays or when u have overnight guests over. They'll be so impressed and it's so easy. You certainly can, it will taste a little different, which happens when you reheat bread related products in the microwave. But 15 seconds should do the trick. :)
Question. Could you put prepared apples like for apple pie filling on top instead of the butter sugar mix? I also want to put the apples as a layer between pull apart pieces, but I am concerned the dough might not completely cook that way. Thoughts?
I don't see why not, I haven't tried that specifically but it seems like it would work fine. I think putting them in between would be fine too. A fun experiment to try!
Yes!! You could totally do that, pretty much any bread dough would work, although biscuit dough is kind of the common way. That would be amazing with cinnamon rolls!
There always seems to be a 'but'. Easy, very easy to make and its's really really good. Followed your recipe exactly. (3/4 cup) of butter for these. Great color and thinking perfectly cooked. Oh yeah, consuming warm minutes out of the oven, yum. But.....later in the day and certainly the next morning it hardens up. Yes nuking it gives it life again but is this the nature of the product? Hello you need about 30 ounces of total biscuit dough. If using a homemade biscuit recipe It is probably double or triple the recipe. if you have some leftover you can just bake them separately.
Thank you! I was able to adjust the measurements just enough and made the perfect amount. I wanted mine to be more on the dense and chewy side (I’m trying to recreate BJ’s monkeybread pizookie), so I slightly reduced the amount of baking powder and milk. While it tasted amazing, it was very crumbly and not “pull-apart” at all. Any advice on how to remedy this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again!

Old fashioned recipes are awesome! Might need to start doing recipes from Julia Child! lol I like how they can bring up old fond memories with every bite. But to be honest this dish is not very healthy! LOL but that is to be expected. With that said, you can alway use less butter and sugar for everything. I even don't mind it cold. I am pulling pieces off of it in the fridge and not even heating them up first right now. lol

Thanks In The Kitchen With Matt! :-) I have to ask my family next time we get together which recipes they remember that our grandmas used- and, I faintly recall my grandma mentioning recipes HER mother used, wish I had written down what she said... for now I recall my parents talking about them using a lot of nutmeg in desserts, particularly apple desserts- I could be wrong, but I think nutmeg was used a lot more in those days than now... also I think they made milk gravy more often back in the day- my mom used to say her mother made that often, and she would make it herself- it was delicious- very simple recipe, but I loved it... which reminds me, have you ever made a video on how to make the best milk gravy? Hey Brandon! 1 cup of butter, but you really don't need that much, you can probably get away with only 1/2 cup. Down below the video in the description box you can find the list of the ingredients and the amounts. Also a link to the recipe on my website. :)
lol yes it does look weird. haha This particular one is especially gooey. haha. But you need the caramel (butter and sugar) to help them all stick together. an oh do they taste yummy.
You could use like a classic cinnamon roll vanilla glaze if you like, start with a cup of powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp. of vanilla extract, 1 Tbsp. of melted butter, then slowly add a Tbsp of milk at a time until you get your desired consistency. If you accidentally add too much milk, just add in some extra powdered sugar. :)
the recipe is in the description box, not just the link, but all the ingredients are listed there. If you are on a mobile phone, there is a triangle in the lower right corner under the video that you press to show the description box. Others it is easy to find on a desktop. 3/4 cup of butter.
Sure! That should work fine, pretty much any bread or biscuit dough should work. Although depending on the dough you may need to bake it a bit longer, just keep an eye on it. :) :) Let me know how it goes!
Don't worry about how it looks on the camera, the camera makes things look "bigger" and "more". But also it doesn't really matter too much anyway just add some butter and brown sugar. If you want it more soggy add more, if you want it more dry and less soggy add less.
It will stay freshest for about 2 days at room temperature covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container. Then an additional couple of days in the fridge. It also can be frozen for a few months. :)
In your opinion. :) Traditional monkey bread like this is made with biscuits. Did you watch the video though? I said in there you can use whatever dough you want. :)
"This is three teaspoons of cinnamon" or to the rest of the world "one tablespoon of cinnamon" If you really want to up this, add some finely ground coffee to the mix.

Hello Julie I usually always use unsalted, but you can use salted too if you like. :)
Can you use banana's instead of nuts
You probably could, I haven't tried it specifically. But I don't see why you couldn't put bananas on top of it instead of nuts. 👍
Do we need pre packaged dough?
No, you can use whatever kind of biscuit or bread dough that you like. :) Traditionally this style is just made with premade biscuit dough.
You can buy frozen bread dough and just have it thaw out then you can cut it into pieces and it turns out just as well!
@@faithv9469 For sure!
Love monkey bread. Time to make some. Ty for the reminder
You are welcome! :)
How much butter did you use??
Hey Brandon! 1 cup of butter, but you really don't need that much, you can probably get away with only 1/2 cup. Down below the video in the description box you can find the list of the ingredients and the amounts. Also a link to the recipe on my website. :)
Looks delicious
Thank you Henry! :)
Hi, Matt. My maiden name is Taylor ... I think we're cousins (or at least I identify as such). Love you!
hahaha awesome!! :) Thank you!
How many biscuits are there in each can?
Usually 8 to 10 biscuits per can.
Thank you
@@lieraj6349 You are very welcome! You can also just make homemade biscuits too. I have a recipe for those here on my channel as well.
Sounds and looks weird but delicious 😝😝😝
lol yes it does look weird. haha This particular one is especially gooey. haha. But you need the caramel (butter and sugar) to help them all stick together. an oh do they taste yummy.
What glaze could i put on top. The ingredients
Cream cheese frosting is also really good on top of it, not too hard to make homemade but the stores also have good ones they sell!
How much butter was that? I can’t open the recipe and you never said how much it was.
the recipe is in the description box, not just the link, but all the ingredients are listed there. If you are on a mobile phone, there is a triangle in the lower right corner under the video that you press to show the description box. Others it is easy to find on a desktop. 3/4 cup of butter.
No mention of how much butter that I could find unless it’s 3/4 cup for both, but he only said 3/4 cup for brown sugar and put it in with our butter
The ingredients are all listed in the description box.
Looks delicious!!!

Thank you, Evie! :)
Can i use pre-made pizza dough? (That's all we have here in australia for pre made dough)
Sure! That should work fine, pretty much any bread or biscuit dough should work. Although depending on the dough you may need to bake it a bit longer, just keep an eye on it. :) :) Let me know how it goes!
Looks like you have way more butter than 3/4 cup. My butter to brown sugar ratio was not like yours.
Don't worry about how it looks on the camera, the camera makes things look "bigger" and "more". But also it doesn't really matter too much anyway just add some butter and brown sugar. If you want it more soggy add more, if you want it more dry and less soggy add less.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt Thx for reply
@@300zxdriver Welcome!
Caramel-Ring-Around!
lol yeah!!
How long does this last?
It will stay freshest for about 2 days at room temperature covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container. Then an additional couple of days in the fridge. It also can be frozen for a few months. :)
@@inthekitchenwithmatt awesome thank you!
@@camribulls641 You are welcome!
I love it
Thank you!!
Rhodes frozen bread dough…thawed…is way better than canned biscuits!!!
In your opinion. :) Traditional monkey bread like this is made with biscuits. Did you watch the video though? I said in there you can use whatever dough you want. :)
I think when I try this recipe I will add chocolate chips and pecans!!!
Yummy! :)
"This is three teaspoons of cinnamon" or to the rest of the world "one tablespoon of cinnamon"
If you really want to up this, add some finely ground coffee to the mix.
Yes, they are the same, although American teaspoons are not the same as Imperial teaspoons. And no it wouldn't up it, if you don't like coffee.
Ahhh how did you not take a bite?!
lol I guess you didn't watch the whole video? 6:45 :)
Who else could taste the monkey bread 😋🤤
me me! haha :)
How much butter??
Hi there 3/4 of a cup. It is written down below the video in the description box, along with all the other ingredients. :)
Love it
Thanks so much!
