As I see it the only way KTM can salvage this motor's and their own brand reputation is to offer blanket, no questions asked warranty coverage regardless of age and for any service history, not just KTM dealer service etc. If as they say the cam issue only effects a small proportion of bikes they have nothing to fear from such an arrangement given cams are not a service item like brake pads and should be expected to last the life of the motor. Trust is a two way street and once lost is almost impossible to regain.
As someone who just sold trusty Vstrom 650 XT im looking for something little bigger and little faster..SMT and Norden 901 are on the top of my shopping list, but... camshaft issues and many other small problems are redirecting me on favor of Vstrom 1050 or Tracer9
@ProphetAndLoss I'm more street leaning towards street riding so RE would be a good option but, I was looking at both 1050 and 800 and first one looks and feels much more grown-up and substantial. Also, much prettier IMHO
Ktm seem to have got motorcycle dynamics right. But unfortunately ive never had the bottle to buy one for reasons being: 1. Reliability reputation. 2. Having to pay for access to equipment already fitted to the bike. 3. Orange.
Nice bike...Has KTM fixed the camshaft issue yet? No? I didn't think so...Are they still charging you for things you've already paid for? Yes? I thought so...
$10,000...but, only if it had an Austrian manufactured engine, 19/17 spoked tubeless rims, and the comfort seat option. The way it is now? Not at any price...I do not want a Chinesium engine.
@@andersd8041 funny as the chinese engines dont have the camshaft issue the austrian ones do, as the chinese had the brains to change it early rather than dig heels.
The bike looks good but the engine could sound better if there wasn’t so much sound proofing in the exhaust but otherwise a good video not sure about the reliability of the bike but I know someone who has a KTM motorbike so I will ask him next time I see him I did wonder if the video had been filmed over the summer because of the good weather
Yes the bike is almost completely quiet so you definitely need a aftermarket exhaust fitted to that bike the question is which one would you on the bike
Even before the camshaft issue, KTM reliability was an issue. After owning two, both of which were a hoot to ride, I wouldn’t buy another. Too many parts failures and the only manufacturer that has left me stranded on the side of the road.
I do which manufacturers would stop quoting dry or kerb weights. It’s such BS - it’s not as if they are unable to weight the fluids and no-one is fooled by a low dry weight. It’s not the true weight anyway as they’ll quote the weight for the bare bike without any options.

I miss summer!
The KTM SMT range has always caught my eye

Vstrom 800DE worth a shout?

I still have my 990 SMT from 2011. Best bike I've ever had or ridden. I haven't had the chance to ride one of these, though, and I really should.
Cool bike, great fun and can happily tour on it ❤
Decat the bike, add a DNA filter, and watch her go...
Was that a tow vehicle spotted following behind 😅.
Think starting a KTM towing company would be a shrewd move😂

Also a lot of people seem to say the aftersales service is pretty poor too, i can not confirm this though.
@@jonno94 they seem good second hand prospects as the used price drops massively
@@dreamcrusher112 I suppose, as long as there's a bit of warranty left.

You ride so many bikes do they start to feel the same after a while?
Isn’t this the engine that is having the cam lobe issues???

KTM is garbage with defective engines. And they’re bankrupt…
Agree but when they work they are phenomenal to ride
@ Oh yeah, no question. But it’s inexcusable at this point and the company is all but finished. That’s why I went with a Ducati Streetfighter V4
