- Sexual health medical update around existing and evolving and new issues in STIs that GPs are facing in their practice, investigation, management and appropriate prescribing.
Presented by:
Dr Brian Flynn who is a GP colleague working at Vitalis Family medical practice in Kirrawee for the last 5 years, after coming over from the UK.
However, he has a rather interesting career path which means he is well placed to talk about STIs!
After being a medical registrar, Brian specialised in Infectious diseases for a period of time. It was during this time Brian discovered his love for all things infectious! It was the natural next step to try out Sexual health and HIV as a specialty (or GUM "Genitourinary medicine" as it's called in the UK). He moved to Scotland where he completed his training in Sexual health and HIV in Edinburgh in 2013. Not content with one speciality he then undertook GP training and so is both a GP and Sexual health doctor.
Since moving to Australia Brian has the reputation as the GP you go to if you have a sexual health issue! He now works part time at the GP practice, but at the Royal Prince Alfred sexual health clinic in Camperdown the other days.
His specialist interests are obvious Sexual health and HIV, including LGBTQ+ care, and men's health.
