I know little & nothing about French compositions, so I'm guessing this is why this music sounds so atypical of everything else I've listened to. An education this morning!
French Baroque on the Ripon organ - c'est magnifique!!!🌞👑🌞 Thank you for sharing. 💐💐🎹🎶
This has to be the QUINTESSENTIAL transcription/performance of (arguably) Lully's greatest composition. The performance and registrations are absolutely PERFECT, in that they convey the subtlety and elegance of the original setting and also bring this piece under a single performer's hand(s). BRAVO!!!
I didn't know this beautiful music and also this opera. Jonathan and Tom, always with new music for their audience. Gratitude! ❤🙏💯🙌🙌
Sooo beautyful - it drives me to tears.🤧 Over the top and beyond good and evil....🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Hello! Me again . . . Just felt the need to come back and share that I've listened to about 5 other transcriptions/performances of this marvelous passacaille on TH-cam, and this is BY FAR the best rendition/interpretation out there. You do not treat this as "Show Off" music, but capture Lully's original subtle/graceful/elegant essence and intent. BRAVO!!!
La meilleure interpretation a l orgue, les contrastes parfaitement equilibres et la melodie jamais etouffee
What a magnificent surprise my Dear Brothers! To receive this jewel when we know you are in the middle of your very busy season.
Thanks Tom for a scintillating video and Jonathan for that beautiful piece in a really imposing cathedral .
Big hug to you both
I’ve not heard this piece before but I absolutely loved it. Beautifully played Jonathan. I will be listening again and again for sure. Thank you Tom for taking us round the Cathedral. Such a lovely building and fabulous pipe organ.
Same hear a lovely piece brilliantly played on this wonderful Ripon organ and a great video. Thanks to you both. 🙂
Hallo!

Great performance, Jonathan! It is wonderful to hear this Passacaglia played again. It is not often heard. Thank you for sharing....Will Ortiz
Splendide interprétation de cette œuvre ✨✨✨✨🌟🌟🌟🌟
Très belles sonorités de l'instrument.
Bravo 👏👏👏👏🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶❤️
Bellissimi questi brani e molto bravi i pianisti che suonano su quattro tastiere è una pedaliera, la qualità del suono che esce dalle canne è eccezionale.
Incredible! Beautifully played and expressed on a magnificent organ. Ripon should feel very proud of it's Cathedral. James.
Precious!!Lovely!!
Thanks for sharing!! 👏👏👏😘😘🤗❤💖
Oooh, what a lovely surprise!! I wasn't expecting you to upload anything today as I thought you'd be too busy. This is such a gorgeous video - what a clever man you are Dr Tom! Brilliant use of the lighting at Ripon Cathedral for a piece with associations to the Sun King!! This was a wonderful rendition Jonathan! Thank you both for increasing my repertoire of musical knowledge still further. Happy, happy, happy!! xx

Quelle performance ! C’était magnifique. Merci.
First time hearing this. It's really nice. Of course just about anything sounds magnificent when played on the Ripon Organ.
Thank you!
A "schott-ish" version of "La Vergine degli angeli" by Giuseppe Verdi... With your dinamics and your tasteful registrations I think It would be a milestone. Thanks for Jean Baptiste 😉😊 Your music Is outstanding.
Gorgeous
Great music and amazing organist !
Wonderful John. Thnx from Holland
So beautifully played🍃thank you
Beautiful. Thank you both.
Love the music, love the video. I was hooked beginning to end.
BTW - NICE Zimbelstern image on your page opening! Subtle, yet POWERFUL!!
Lindo! Amei! Eu não conhecia esse compositor. Obrigada a vocês dois por mais este incrível vídeo!
Beautiful video guys!🥲
❤❤❤🙏👏👏👏👏👏
The lighting, using this console and this great transcription makes a novel experience - thanks to both brothers Scott!!
Also - how about a duet piece in the future, since both consoles - screen and nave - can be be played simultaneously? Jonathan and A.N.Other.....?
Impressive transcription from one of Lully's finest operas. In fact there must be more pieces suitable for transcriptions and arrangements by Rameau - Platee for instance. (The storm - orage scene - which would be a real challenge played at full pelt!!)
Wasn't expecting a piece by Lully. A great piece and great playing! (But the latter goes without saying.) This and Purcell's Passacaglia have a very similar feel, so perhaps Jonathan can also play that, too, you know, as a good Englishman to honor his compatriot. (I just want to hear it.)
I love Henry Purcell s. ❤️
When you get the chance, could you record yourself playing the Agincourt hymn on the Grand Organ at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral?
…And afterwards was invented the safety baton, which conductors have used ever since.
I had read that Lully, while angry, put his conducting staff into his foot. He died from an infection as a result. (A reference to Harold C. Schoenberg's book "The Great Conductors"). From Chicago, U.S.A.
Strange registration, quite nothing like 18th french organ music, more like à modern registration on a bach piece but why not...
Lovely flutes by the way.
I agree, why not?
