    John, I’ve said it before before, but definitely seems appropriate to say it again…… It’s so refreshing and relaxing to watch you elegantly solve mechanical conflicts. I just wish I too had the Bewitched touch to levitate the tools I drop back into my hand. 👍👍😜👍👍

    I don't have anything clever to say just that I enjoy seeing you attack mechanical problems with good outcomes🤗😎🤗😎

    Gawd! It was like Harry Potter in the garage with that Allen Wrench!

    That cut where the wrench flies back into your hand was amazing. I don’t know how many times we’ve all been up on a ladder or in a tight spot where that trick would be a winner. As a previous Corvair owner I’m eagerly anticipating the final product.

    Flaming River products are spendy but the few ice used have been nice products. Like you, I prefer threaded bungs to nuts and find myself machining them quite often for various projects.

    Rivnut tip
    A washer and thread locker can help the nut grab onto thin metal.
    If you have access to the back of the panel put the Washer there with some thread locker or super glue to stick it in place , being on the back works better but it can work on the front too.
    Drilling to hole too small and expanding it out with a punch can also work depending on access

    I'm building a 37 CHev PU with a 5.3 LT1. The engine bay is filled and getting a straight steering column in was impossible. SO I got an IDIDIT 16" shorty column. It's connectee with a Borgeson U joint and passes through a bearing on the firewall to another U Joint. From there it goes to a Ujoint on the Rack. The angle as it passes through the firewall is around 42degrees, Too sharp according to Borgeson. My thought is to get a 12" colum which will change the angle as it exits the firewall. From there I will likely put a bearing on the frame rail and use another Ujoint, for a total of 4.

    Put full weight on the wheels and test for binding etc before continuing the build, you might need to change things.
    Silly question but why not just use the factory column mount?
    An adjustable wrench would have solved the angle problem, 1.5^ of angle is an easy bend to put into folded sheet metal with no detriment.

    What is your steering rack ratio? Seemed quite a few wheel rotations if not completely miscounted.
    Would that not be slow in case of any sliding action and need for fast steering input?

    • @JohnReynolds661
      @JohnReynolds661  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it 4 turns which is fine for a manual rack.
