Rosters didn't update through the season back in the day, although he mostly could have taken their next season's rating and used that with only retirees being an issue at that point.

This came out remarkably accurate. As a very long time Pats fan, I would absolutely agree, that of the SB teams, the 03 and 04 were the best. Mostly because of their absolutely stifling defenses. Some of Belichicks best work was with those rosters. It would be interesting to see who would win if you included the 2007 team. The Giant's incredible underdog win in the SB notwithstanding, they might have been the greatest team ever.

@@kanyewest653907 pats fell off hard late in the season and lost the big game, 03 and 04 pats went 17-2 and won it all, not much worse than 18-1
03 had the better defense, but 04 was the more complete team.
03 Patriots had the 12th ranked offense, 1st ranked defense. 04 had the 4th ranked offense, 2nd ranked defense.
The 2016 team was just as good as the 04 team, if not better... 3rd ranked offense, 1st ranked defense.
Something to note was the 2019 team had the best defense, allowing even fewer points per game than the 04 Patriots (14.1), but their offense was pretty mediocre due to lack of weapons for Brady.
I feel like the 2014 Patriots should’ve put up more points. Of the Super Bowl winning teams they probably had the best weapons on offense. Healthy Gronk, Edelman and Dólares, Lafell, Blount and Vereen. Then defense had prime Revis, McCourty, Wilfork, Chris Jones, Hightower, Collins, Nink.
Patriots 2004 defense was great, but I don’t think that offense really puts up those types of points on that 2014 defense.
But you can’t bet against Brady 😂

I feel like for this type of video, doing the players' overall at the beginning of the NEXT madden makes the most sense, no? bc that way it'll be their most recent ratings (i.e. how good they played at the end of the last season, when they won the sb)
this is what I always do when I make past teams. for example albert haynesworth earned a 99 with the titans but was terrible on the redskins. so the redskins team if you made it wouldn’t deserve a 99 haynesworth but the titans team would. same with demarco murray on the eagles.
I really wish they let us import authentic SB or HoF teams so players could do fun experiments like this offline. I definitely thought about having the next draft class be all HoF players but as rookies but it is incredibly immersion breaking seeing a bunch of generic faces and the announcers don’t recognize their names. Reminds you that you’re not even playing with the actual players.
I love this idea but I do feel it wouldve been better to use the ratings from the following Madden's after the Super Bowl win. Brady was only a 58 OVR in 2001 because he was drafted in the 6th round and nobody knew he was going to be any good at all. Still, great video!
It would be a ton of work (and I’m not sure if even possible). But it would be awesome if somehow this concept could be done with every Super Bowl winning team in history in one giant bracket
I tried doing this idea with baseball. I became obviously overwhelmed and burned out, but i at least had the bracket drawn up

Could you redo this video with ratings starting from the madden after? Like for 01 Brady use 02 Madden rating but use 01 depth chart? Would be more accurate in showing the true overall at the time of the Super Bowl

Great vid but the actual Super Bowl team ratings are always at the beginning of the following Madden(ex. Tampa Madden 22 ratings at the start of the season are based on the Bucs that won the SB in 2020
People forget that the reason the Patriots were so successful was their stellar defense. Tom was great but it was their defense that really won the multiple superbowls.

I forgot about some of those studs on the early yewr defneses, but i expected the Bucs to take it. They had a great defnese and some offensive playmakers. I can say i was suprised by the outcome

I think doing all 10 SB team that Brady played in. Could have been an interesting proposition.
The 03 and 04 Pat's were the best overall teams. Though I'd give the edge to the 03 Pat's because every player on that team had something to prove and they played like it. The original core from 01 didn't make the playoffs in 02, and then they got Dillon and Harrison who had huge chips on theirs shoulders and wanted to prove they still were great players. Dillon put up over 1600 yards and Harrison set the tone for the DB's. That 03 team is one of the historically great teams in my opinion.
I would love to see how the undefeated '07 Patriots stacked up against these SB winning teams

If you have an odd number of teams you could do a round Robin where everyone plays each other once and then the top 4 teams make playoffs?

I think this is a huge message to why Brady has 7 rings and not 3 or 4. He had some amazing defenses. His first SB team was him making smart decisions and not turning the ball over. Defense and great coaching wins SBs
Lifelong Pats fan got em all right except for '01 Pats vs '20 Bucs. Thought Bucs would have taken that haha, but that defense was legit so anything could happen.
Hard pick was '14 vs '04, thought that one would have been a little closer, still was going with '04 though that defense was so good.
I think overall people forget just how insane those early defenses were, and Brady was still elite back then, maybe not GOAT status level, but still incredible. I'd be interested to see '07 in there. Not quite as elite of a defense as '03/'04, aging players from that era, but still right there with them, but also with the new age firepower that we expect out of the modern NFL.
'07 vs. '04 would be my favorite matchup to see.
I always felt like the 2003 and 2004 Patriots were the two best TEAMS. They were exceptional in all three fazes. The teams from 2007 on were offensive heavy with a bend but don’t break defense. Those
defense choked hard in the super bowl, and randy moss dropped catch, 2007 pats represents a team that is lazy, and thought they could singshot their way to victory, thats why I always get mad when people say 2007 pats is the greatest pats team of all time, they truly weren't in my eyes, when the beat jags by only 11 in their first playoff game of that season, I knew production was dropping

Crazy thing about the Patriots dynasty was how every SB victory was a by-the-skin-of-our-teeth barnburner. Every one was either won by a late FG or interception as time was running out. They never dominated anybody.
The last one against the Rams was not really close at all. Just low scoring.

The 2004 Patriots might be the best team in NFL history. In the playoffs the divisional round they first shut down the Colts #1 offense in NFL history holding them to 3 points. Then in the AFC champ game they scored 41 points on the Steelers #1 ranked defense. Id take that team against any other team in history.
