I miss these! I ate the 7 eleven ones when I visited Osaka in 2019 and I couldn't believe how good it was. But then... The strawberries in Japan are waaaaay better than any strawberry I've ever eaten from here in Australia.

And I agree John about the apples from Japan. I only buy apples now from my local Asian supermarket. They have them rapped in a foam cozy and they are much sweeter and crunchier than the ones I get at other grocery stores.
I think that the first thing I would do is open the sandwich, and poke those strawberries around to distribute them evenly through the sandwich.

That Family Mart sando has one strawberry sliced into 3 pieces. 711 Strawberry sando is the best!
I’d pick the 7-11 all day long! I prefer their sandwiches over Lawson and family mart!
Here's one to try...sear off a chicken breast, dont murder it, keep it juicy! Butter and toast a sliced baguette. Smear goat cheese on one side, raspberry preserves on the other. Add the chix and some field greens for crunch. Always a good seller on lunch menus!
I was surprised how sweet the strawberries were when I ate them while visiting Japan.

Oh my...Cherry Blossom beer. Looks like 7.11 is the hands down winner to me but I'd have to bring some pocket strawberries to fatten it up to North American size.

In the UK, strawberries are mainly a summer fruit (think Wimbledon tennis etc), so it's odd to think of them as a winter fruit. Yes, I know they're grown in greenhouses...

I’ve heard that using Japanese milk bread (which I didn’t have) really elevates the experience, so will have to hunt it down! I’ve also added kiwi to my sandwiches, which are also tasty. YES! I saw that Lawson's was using that and also matcha bread to add color and another bitterness to balance the natural sweetness. I'll look for the milk bread sandwiches. Kiwi is in the usual mixed fruit sandwich - but not in season now.

The sandwich that has pineapple and tangerine sounds interesting 🤔 I find that the whole "sandwich" thing is VERY interesting with bread... I'd probably just eat the insides 😋 The first one, looked REALLY sad... If it's going to be a strawberry sandwich it should have MORE strawberries. The second one looks WAY better since they put more strawberries AND cream. K... The third one doesn't have a good middle like the second one. This would be an ultimate sandwich because of the different fruits but, it should have the strawberries from the other sandwich and either the whipped cream or the custard spread not only evenly but, also a good amount 😋

The Family Mart fruit sandwiches (e.g. strawberries, blueberries, mandarins) here in Malaysia are good tho and look nothing than the ones you guys ate. Never tried the Lawson and 7e ones. We don't have Lawson here and 7e here isn't the Japanese owned, so it isn't a combini like in Japan.
Been to Japan few years ago but never had a chance to try the sandwiches unfortunately.
Best fruit sandwich that I've tried in Tokyo is at the basement of Takashimaya Times Square.
Never tried strawberries on a sandwich before with custard looks good though.
The 7 Eleven is definitely the best one by far. Definitely needs a mug of tea to wash down.😀👍
Indeed - I was impressed with their wall to wall fruit and cream coverage :) Kanae's tea was much better than my experimental beer.
7-11 is always GOAT...sad my flight for April to Tokyo was canceled.

Expensive lol considering a whole loaf of bread is like 3 dollars (in states) and strawberries are cheap here too. Could make a lot of money selling them here lol

I would make a version using a lemon zest flavoured custard or cream to accent the sweetness of the berries! I am allergic to strawberries so someone else would have eat it for me.
I was unable to watch the livestream because it was happening at the start of my work day! I can't say fruit sandwich sounds appealing especially with the white uncrusted bread. Seems like it would be soggy! I would stick with an overflow of tuna fish with tons of mayonnaise, pepper and chopped red onion!
Strawberries were off center. Kanae got huge cuts.

@@onlyinjapanGO Might be a dumb question... Costco cakes in the US are pretty much 100% frosting. (There's barely any cake.) Does Costco in Japan use frosting or whipped cream?

Lawson have more oden than sandwich that what I've noticed.
I believe they got rid of the oden at the counter because of sanitation problems. You have to microwave a bag of oden and they open it in the cup. It's not the same.

I was shocked too - I'll try other sandwiches in the future to compare which is better. I do think 7-Eleven has been doing really well lately.

I do find most combini sandwiches to be a rip off. They look great, but are smoke and mirrors.
Some things never change. Looks beautiful in the package but then you find out how little product you actually get.
I know! You see the strawberry and -- it's razor thin! Ah, they got me - and I'll probably buy it again anyway because it really does look that good in the store.
I vote for 7-11. The whipped cream does it for me. The Family Mart was a disappointment. I may try to make these at home. They always look so delicious. Thanks for the comparisons. People keep joking about the mayo, but in the south we eat banana and mayo sandwiches. Lol.
Yes, 7-Eleven is killing it lately with choices. Woah - that's a combo I've never heard about, but when I say peanut butter and jelly in Japan, they probably say the same thing. Non-existent here. Have you had Japanese mayo? It's so different.

At first glance I thought the Family Mart looked nicer, but as an English guy I'm still not sold on fruit sandwiches.
It's a tough sell - I don't think it would taste to same if I had it in the US either. It just tastes better in Japan because people don't stare at me when I eat it.

I prefer fresh whipped cream cakes. Too easy to hide chemicals in butter cream.
That's true - I prefer to make the butter cream myself or at bakeries I know make it fresh.
