hi ricky im new to koi keeping but i was given one of them fish and its a very big fish to say the least do you have a email so i can send some pics of it i think its weight must be around 10 to 12 pounds but has 2 spots behind its left eye and nobody can tell me what it is ive done a scrap but nothing showing up on the scope.many thanks ricky
Have been following the channel for quite sometime now. Really admire your passion & koi keeping knowledge Ricky. I live in the south of India where the weather is usually warm. I have a 25000 litre pond about roughly 30 feet long, 7 foot wide & 3 foot deep. There are about 58 one foot size Japanese koi in the pond. Have started feeding saki hikari from last week. How many grams of feed should I be feeding my koi per day in order to obtain a good growth progress in the next 6 months Ricky?
Thanks for the feedback. First of all your feeding will depend on your filtration. I don’t feed a set amount of grams per day instead I use visual monitoring. If you have 24c or above water I feed every 2 hours for 9 feeds a day. Feed as much as they will eat in 10 minutes and adjust the feeding level up once it takes the less time to clear the food. All you need to make sure is that the filters keep up and oxygen levels are maximised.
Thanks a lot for the guidance Ricky. Ours is an old school gravity flow filtration system with 2 submersible pumps (pumping 10,000 & 15000 litres per hr of pure filtered water) & 2 UVs in the chambers including 3 bottom drains & a skimmer in the pond. The latest basic readings from the pond are as follows : 1. Water temp = 31.5 degree celsius 2. Oxygen level = 6.2 3. PH = 8.0 4. Ammonia level = 0.15 5. Salt level = 0.10 Are these basic normal? Can I go ahead with your plan mate?
To take the growth to the next level. Higher oxygen saturation, more turnover and more biological capacity. All to handle the very heavy feeding levels needed to get the growth and body volume I want to achieve.
Wow there coming on very well i know in japan they feed colour food , do you feed colour supplement at all yet or will ? Also is it a myth koi only grow as big as pond as you have a fair few in a grow on tank fed well heated for a guess , and getting great results

Thanks for sharing. Do you have any video on the Kohaku from Hoshikin? Best regards from Sweden /Per
Hi,
Not at the moment. I decided to not film them this season. I will share them in the autumn once harvested.
Thanks, I have a small group around 10 of them in my pond. They have been growing quite well and are around 50-70cm, 3 years old now.
They're looking great, what do you do in the way of water changes or do you have a trickle in/out?
I just top up what is lost from the drum filter cleaning daily.
Tosai is yellow. Now, its orange. Change color? Is that right sir?
Yes that is correct
Wow 😳! It's beautiful.how can I get it.i never seen before original japanese koi in my country.
Where do you live?

Fantastic koi Ricky
Out of curiosity what’s the water like where you are .hard soft etc

The incoming water is relatively neutral. In all honesty though that’s not the point to be focusing on.

Absolutely stunning and amazing growth rates. Why add a shower in the next stage? Abby

There’s much more to it than the size of the pond.
Yes I use colour food in most ponds. It is needed in order to achieve top quality pigmentation.
First offer please 🙏🏻
