The big ones are 20 x 8 x 3.5 and the smaller ones are around 8 x 8 x 3

The simple way is the check the vent to see if you can get any sperm out. The shape of the vent will also be an indication. Finally you check the front ray of the pectoral fin for small spots called oiboshi which will be present for male koi.
