    Respect! A very entertaining video by a couple of guys who do not consider making money the only value in their life. For those there will be a happy future.

    The Oxted line platforms at Selsdon station were closed in 1959. I travelled up and down this line all through the 60's and can't ever remember stopping at Selsdon, apart from at signals. Plus it always looked derelict.

    To see a journey over this line on a STEAM hauled train please go to th-cam.com/video/maRES3n2Icc/w-d-xo.html. On that film the juorney continues beyond East Grinstead to Tunbridge Wells West - please note that it was shot as a FILM, back in the early 1960s, by myself.

    I always used to think Oxted was an abbreviation, like Oxon or Bucks.

    "Weakfield", does that mean less electricity needed to keep momentum of train at required speed?

    • @hastingsdiesels
      @hastingsdiesels  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Almost, yes. It allows a DC motor to spin faster for the same amount of electricity.

    This is a demu can't you use the 3rd rail supply or are the electric pickup not installed on the unit

    • @hastingsdiesels
      @hastingsdiesels  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're correct, this is a DEMU: it is a Diesel-Electric, which means the on-board diesel generator produces the electricity for the traction motors. Not to be confused with an Electro-Diesel, like the Class 73 locomotives, which can take power either from the on-board diesel generator or from 3rd-rail shoegear. Ours is a DEMU, and so does not have that capability.

    You guys are bonkers. I've just watched this, and before it the journey from EG to Sheffield Park, and now I note that you've also uploaded the trip from Hurst Green to Uckfield. You are crazy. You should have sold the whole lot to a commercial house, not just dumped it on TH-cam. The quality is excellent, the captioning perfect and the subject matter - a cab ride in a unique preserved unit - irresistible. Promise me that, whatever else you do, if you are contemplating a similar exercise in the future (i.e. taping a cab ride of a complex and fascinating rail tour), you will talk to the commercials. Even if it only makes you a few thou (and five quid times 1,000 sales is five grand) you've got to be ahead on the day...

      Hi Geoff, interesting thoughts, and I'm delighted that you enjoyed my efforts. However, if you go to +video125co and buy their "Uckfield Thumper", you'll see that despite being well over 10 years old it has 1) much better video quality, 2) better sound, 3) professional narration, 4) dozens of run-bys, supporting shots and cutaways as well as animated maps etc giving a thoroughly professional package. This? This is just something assembled by a busy off-duty train driver / perfectionist who's bought a GoPro. :-) I'd rather we made this material available for anyone to view, and encouraged an interest in our work and so garnered financial support THAT way, rather than giving nothing and relying on sales by a third party of a product we'd no longer own. Peter M, what are your thoughts on this? If viewers wish to make donations or become shareholders in HDL, they would of course be very welcome...

    • @geoffbarry9540
      @geoffbarry9540 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough. I've had the Thumper vid for a long time, together with many other 125 productions and yes, they are the doyens of cab ride videos. I'd still put your efforts up with the 225 Studios stuff, however, so if all I can do is congratulate you on a thoroughly enjoyable and very professional and unique - trio of uploads, then so be it. Incidentally, I'm posting this because I've come back to watch them all again! And to think I lived in Hastings for four years and never thought to get involved with HDL...too busy going to the KESR and Bluebell

      Thank you again! As you may see from comments nearby, these videos do suffer slightly from a focussing issue. I'm about to attempt to improve the camera (it is nominally fixed-focus but a DIY adjustment to this value can be made), so any such videos from future railtours etc may be a bit sharper too.

    2 minutes waiting at signal at start , could have been edited out!

    • @hastingsdiesels
      @hastingsdiesels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What a stupid comment!
      I deliberately wanted the opening credits and captions not to cover up the footage from once we got under way.
      I deliberately wanted to show the other trains passing in each direction.
      I deliberately wanted to show the trap-points moving and the signal then clearing.
      If you really didn't want to see that, there was nothing stopping you bothering to read the video description and noting where it says "2:26 - Outlet signal T91 clears and the journey begins", and choosing to select that.
      This is just the sort of lazy ignorant criticism that makes me not want to bother ever resuming the enormous amount of time and effort that producing these videos involves. ^RG
