Thanks for the tip....I have been shoving bags of pea gravel in my wedding cake stairs for years and they are a pain to deal with. I leave my steps in year round because I have a dog that will jump in even during the winter on a worm day. I live in North Georgia too.
I bought some 10 pound weights at 5 Below & tied them to each side on the underside of the steps but I didn’t have quite enough weight. The pvc pipe is giving me some ideas. I need to add more weight this summer.
Just making sure , You used 6 test caps? Do I wait until cement dries to connect to 3/4" pvc bars? Did you only have 1 bar on the one side to connect all 3 weights? I also do better actually seeing it, But seems simple enough as long as I have correct supplies. I'm doing this tomorrow, I agree the sand is not the best idea. I'm ready for anything other than what I've tried. Oh please 1 more thing , is there anything other than the original step to deck support that might work.
Yes, 6 caps, wait at least a week for concrete to dry. Spread the weight out by using 2 bars if you can. I took my deck mount brackets to a metal fab shop and they made new ones out of stainless steel diamond plate. then i had them powder coated.
Hi. I know this comment is late, but after you install the end caps with the rings, where do you hang them? You didn't show that part. Do you install hooks on the inside of the steps to hang them from?
Hi, please review video again. At the 2:46 section, I explain how to hang the weights from the pvc bar I discussed at the beginning of video using zip ties. I should have mentioned that you need the large zip ties found in the HVAC section of Home Depot. Just ask and someone will help you find them. Hope this helps!
Great video, did you take the caps off where the sand supposed to go so they would fill up with water or drill some holes thanks. Im making your tubes this weekend
Hi, depending on your steps, there will be holes in different places. You can always drill your own and place the pvc where you want. Be sure to use a spade bit to make the hole.
@@SafeTravelRV I have the same steps without the extra piece and I'm not as innovative as you so a picture in place would be extremely helpful. Thanks, Doreen from NJ
@@doreencevasco5024 Hi, unfortunately I can’t take any pictures as the steps are attached. Look on the side walls that support the steps. There should be holes. You can insert a piece of PVC pipe cut a little long and zip tie the weights to them.
I use these weights and do not put sand in steps! Here’s why: it makes it very heavy if you want to remove steps later and it’s takes some time to get enough sand in the steps. Use the weights and drill some more holes in steps to allow air to escape.
I'll be damned. That is so awesome. Thank you for being smarter than the pool companies and sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for your ideas! Especially the test cap! Holy cow! We also drilled some extra holes in the front of the steps!
Wow, that's a great idea! Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
This is such a solid idea! (Ba Dum Tiss!) Great video sir, ditching my sand bags today! Thanks!

@@SafeTravelRV Thank you. I wish I had found this last year.

Hi William, I did both. When you first put steps in water, wait for it to fill up then turn on side to release anymore trapped air.
Hey big Al Paulding County, Dallas, Georgia here
Can you please post a picture where you place the PVC pipe to attach the cement filled pipes

Big Al, what did you put on the end of your pvc? Where did you get them?
Temporary pressure caps for rough in inspection. Cheap, Home Depot
How do you clean behind the pool steps?
Hi, I’ll sometimes use a water hose to push anything out. Normally its not an issue.
Thanks for your question!
Where did you get those end caps
@@kathyhunt8368 I think i mentioned in video, plumbing test caps
Thanks I appreciate this idea. I’ve been trying to find some way to keep my steps down. Great idea. I’m heading to Lowe’s in the morning
I thought pool steps were made to fill with water and that is what weights them down.
how do you keep algae from geting under the steps
maintaining proper levels of chlorine. Occasionally, i have to move steps and brush behind them.
Don't the sand go in the steps?
