    I feel like if Western companies want to use or emulate kpop, they have to go all out. Like do the whole 2-5 weeks of promo hype before the release drops. Then after the release spend 2-4 weeks making (long form) content about the song, do dance rehersals, and make vlogs about the process.

    • @teresa18870

    • @PrinceSoph
      @PrinceSoph 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      @xosahara yes and no. The biggest inspiration of how Kpop groups are structured is a lot closer to Jpop groups, not so much the western groups.
      So it's a bit more nuanced.

    • @xosahara
      @xosahara 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +40

      @@PrinceSoph lol and who did Japan get inspired from? It’s really annoying when people forget how much these countries have been influenced by the west. As if Japan isn’t one of the biggest consumers of western music. Companies in Japan that manage groups were directly impacted by early western companies - think Motown all the way to recent companies. And they actively do business with western companies so there’s a lot of pollination along with their extractive practices. Sure, the digital age expedites certain things. But it’s really annoying when people try to rewrite history and or forget cultures that began these practices. Before the west, Japan was not managing groups. Let’s be completely honest. Most of the things folks want to attribute to Japan are a result of them deciding to not be exclusionists and emulate other countries by building soft power to compete with the west. But they just copied the west, and that’s why it’s not really creative... From outfits, to bread, to cream soda, curry, city pop (which is really electro funk and soul extracted from ADOS communities) play vs I5 - bro I can go on. Y’all gonna have to do research before you even give Japan the credit for anything. I know things are nuanced but history should be fully articulated well. Else people groups and their culture and creativity easily get written out. Lol this ended up more rant-y but hopefully you get my point.

    From a fan perspective it felt like KYN didn’t have the money or knowledge to promote a girl group in today’s entertainment industry. If you didn’t have TikTok to keep up it was like the group dropped an ep then disappeared. No festival, busking, or concert performances to gain an actual audience off TikTok

    Their disbandment really saddenet and shocked me somehow, although not surprising? the kpop training system was directly taken from motown, a black american record label who used this method on their own black girl groups. it was always a western formula, but kpop definitely popularized it in the modern era.

    • @lunaris7342

      Actually Kpop took its Training System from Jpop who were inspired by motown but they did changed some things about it.Motown Artists didnt lived together and they also didnt do choreography for examples (and of course their werent Idols just Artists) Jonnys put out its first Group in 1962 and went on to change their Training Formual in the next Decades. It wasnt the direct same. Even the Training System of Jpop and Kpop are different. Wich you can see if you compare Group from this 3 different Industries. Their focus on different things. Also modern western Groups arent trained that way either way

    The downfall of western groups (girls and boys) is something that I believe we are seriously lacking in today’s society. The impact that groups had on my childhood and upbringing was SUBSTANTIAL with groups such as One Direction, Fifth Harmony, Little Mix, PRETTYMUCH, 5SOS, etc. Especially with the recent news of Liam Payne sparking countless of 1D stan pages to flood my timeline once again… it goes to show the community and that these groups live on in us. It’s sad to think that children and teens in today’s society don’t have their modern version of 1D. We need a resurgence of preteen pop culture, kids these days are growing up way too fast.

    26:00 "Loossemble" are actually made up of LOONA members! (You might know them... stan LOONA). "Loossemble" means "LOONA + assemble". They made the group after the fans boycotted the company and the members were involved in court cases against it to void their contracts, because they were being mistreated and the company unfairly kicked one of the members out. So these 5 girls reunited under a different company after winning their injuction lawsuits.
    The song they made for Loossemble definitely became a fan favorite. I just have to say I felt a bit bad for Boys World because apparently they had already recorded the original and everything, there's demos online... people can go on and on about training, but what actually makes kpop KPOP is the comeback/ promotion period. they have weekly music shows like 6/7 days a week, go to radio/tv/ youtube shows, do fansigning, and release a lot of self made youtube contents during the promotion period. and this happens at least once a year for older groups, but for younge ones they can comeback like 3 times a year. they have the system to market new music and attract fans.
    this is also why 'global groups' based of inspired by kpop tend to also promote in korean music shows bcs that's where they'll get noticed

    • @dontnoticemesenpai6745
      @dontnoticemesenpai6745 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You’re right abt the promotion, but they also can’t just copy that formula exactly and expect it to work. Like you said, a lot of groups rn are heading to Korea to promote. We just don’t have the infrastructure for groups to do what they do in Korea.
      Kpop groups can do frequent comebacks because their typical markets (especially Japan) have a rich fan/music culture. They buy merch, watch music shows, go to concerts. The US (and much of the west) prefers to stream. We… have to deal with ticketmaster and get concert fatigue. Does MTV even show music videos anymore? Idk if multiple “comebacks” a year would be super feasible unless they’re VERY careful with their money.
      Even in Korea, the very nugu groups have to be very smart with how they promote/allocate funds if they want the group to last.

    i personally thought their debut image of bubblegum pop suited them & their brand well & i would’ve loved to see more of that specific image as they went on. +saying a group of teenagers (bc that’s what they were when they debuted) needed to have a “mature” concept so they can be taken seriously is 👎🏾

    their team relied super heavily on how kpop groups advertised themselves online except it was as if these people had just discovered kpop and didn't understand that the genre hadn't just emerged out of nowhere and started posting a shit ton of dances on tiktok as a way to promote new music. like kpop tiktok marketing literally happened accidentally after dance challenges became popular and it coincided somewhat with vlive shutting down so ofc it got fans excited (plus interactions between idols were also a big reason to garner hype for fans). their team failed to understand that a western gg made up of new girlies wasn't gonna be part of that world though so ofc a fanbase wasn't just gonna pop out of nowhere just bc they utilised tiktok heavily. recently perrie from lm talked about how there is little way really to promote music in the western world esp if you really care about showcasing performances and music and singing and i really think their team failed to grasp that. it doesn't surprise me from people associated with syco ent though, they really just saw the potential for big bucks by looking at kpop through capitalism coloured westerner glasses and that's a shame

Youve gotta promote elsewhere as well. thanks for making this video. i knew you would in time as one of their BIGGEST fans ever. a minor or potentially larger issue that hasn't got a lot of traction is btwn queenie and mak. to me it was very clear from the beginning that the two of them weren't close but over the years it became more obvious that they didn't like each other. about at least a year prior to the disbandment, i definitely noticed how mak was not in a lot of social things among the girls but soon after disbandment, queenie posted about letting toxic or unwanted ppl go and unfollowed mak. also the rest of the girls didn't really interact with her content towards the end and saw today that mak also unfollowed queenie. the other 4 constantly are hanging out with each other and seem very close. all of this to say internal dynamics always play a role but KYN and their team are the pieces of shit responsible for their demise

    i heard of and kept up with boys world since their debut and always looked forward to their music. the girls have so much potential it's actually surprising how i can still love the songs despite the lack of group color/branding that they wanted to push.
    seeing you mention that they heavily promoted on tiktok made so much sense to me because i am never on it (no account, didn't have the app either) so i never heard whenever they're teasing or promoting new music
    the label def didn't have enough money (the way /conspiracy theory here/ kpop would regularly push comebacks for even the most unknown groups as part of money laundering) and everything so yeah as you explained here i can see clearly how sucky their team was
    their disbandment came as a surprise to me bc it happened like not long after they started doing more live performances so i thought oh maybe we'd be seeing more promotions for them. i didn't even know they appeared in china! 😔

    Bad Management can really ruin a group, like P.Diddy for Example. He used people “groups” only for money gain. These groups: Dainty Kane, B5, Day26 were all cut short because he was greedy. They were on the rise and could have been as big as Chris Brown, or even Beyoncé; if they were managed by ANYONE else but him.
    Because so many companies will drain their artist of money, will drain artists of opportunities. The main thing artists need is always involved with money (Tbh) to grow; engagement, views, shows, etc. Also, Keeping the group together, because groups will have fall-outs due to their own differences and such.
    1. Politics
    2. Bullying
    3. Mental Health
    4. Illegal stuff
    5. Fearing their lives.
    Sometimes it's better left unsaid until they feel safe and obligated to tell us what happened; all I know is a group break up is never easy…

    They debuted too early. They should’ve released girlfriends in 2021 not 2020. 2020 was peak covid months where a lot of concerts got canceled and they had their nickfest festival cancelled. I think flo was supposed to debut in 2021 but pushed it back to 2022 just to take full advantage of covid protocols starting to lighten up.
    They took too many music hiatus without giving content. A big reason groups K-pop groups and western groups like fifth harmony and one direction gained loyal fanbases was because they did well in cultivating parasocial fandoms. They were constantly releasing content and promoting everywhere and gave enough content for people to write fanfics, make fun edits, speculate drama, etc.
    Another that stuck out to me big was regarding the group cohesion. Olivia didn’t fit in the group 🤷‍♀️. All the other girls were smaller than her and seemed to be 5’3 max but she was like 5’8-5’9 and she was never put as a center position. I guess it’s because she couldn’t as dance well as the others but it just made it more obvious.

    The thing I don’t get is why these k-pop companies are making literally survival shows with trainees who has little experience for these “global groups” (hate that term, they are k-pop groups that sing in English), when Boys World are now free agents and could be signed to one of these labels. I hope that happens, because that’d be smart, already have a built in fanbase and could literally grow with a company that knows what they are doing.
    And my favorite Boys World song is Something In The Water, which to me is a summer song that should have been the song of the summer for 2021. I didn’t like the styling in the video (I though the outfits looked ok, but not for dancing and I don’t like the cover on the single (I also dislike it wasn’t a part of like an album or like a mini album). I also think the video could have had actual water in it, because I think that’s really weird to have no water in a MV for a song about water.
    I also thought about it, but I think if they could have opened for Olivia Rodrigo, who has that Y2K style, I think they could have boosted their concept more (I also think So What was still Y2k). If I had to explain their evolution, it reminds me of the k-pop group Rainbow (who was/is under DPS, Kara’s and KARD’s label) who started in 2009 with like a girly concept and went into a more mature and sexy concept (which I think was their best concept, very Girls’ Generation meets 9Muses), then oddly went cutesy for a little while, then went sexy sexy when the k-pop sexy era of 2013/2014-2016 came around and then kind of had like one more girly-ish concept with Whoo before they disbanded (it didn’t help DPS shipped them to Japan for a year and literally let South Korea forget about them).

    • @Anonx000
      @Anonx000 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      that makes no sense because they don’t sing in korean so how can these global groups be considered kpop? Majority of these global groups are in a collaboration between a Korean & American company except for XG that are from a Japanese company only

    • @adamsmoberly
      @adamsmoberly 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Anonx000 True in a sense, but then technically Boys World, One Direction, etc. would also be a global group too, but they aren’t. It’s the way they are made, the training, group direction, marketing. I mean even Kateye’s debut mini album is in the style of a k-pop album, rather than a jewel cd case like most western artists. And the fact most k-pop groups nowadays have full English songs on their albums/singles, feels like the lines are blurred a bit.

She keeps posting on Instagram things like "I promise new music is coming" or "I'm so sorry I haven't put any songs out in a while" so I wouldn't be surprised if KYN holding her back from releasing new music or something.
