Thousands of years ago, the ancient Greeks used to say: "Whoever is not Greek is a barbarian" No. They were not racists. They meant barbaric either the one who knew nothing of Greek education or the one who did not want to follow the values, principles, or virtues that the philosophers taught then. So a Greek could very well be a barbarian and a foreigner could be a Greek. Giannis is an African who was born and raised in Greece and went to a Greek school. What he learned there but mainly what life itself taught him makes him more Greek than all of us Greeks. after that I do not care how many points he will put and how many more incredible things he will do in the NBA. He is already the champion of our heart and he makes us all proud. Nevertheless, eleven million Greeks shout: "let s go bucks"

@@BucketListMo It is true but that's not the case for all Greeks and that's something that people discuss about on the greek social media. A lot of Greeks blame each other stating that if Giannis was not the famous nba player that made his dream come true, he would still be seen as one inferior immigrant and treated like a lower class citizen. But that's a thing that Giannis achieved, he made people realize that we shouldn't be treating foreigners differently compared to one another because of their class or economic status, he proved wrong a lot of narrow minded idiots and showed a lot of young kids that dedication combined with discipline is the key process towards achieving your goals no matter what they are.

In a certain way, is exactly the reason for him to be the way he is.
He and the other international players, they didn't grow up in environment that promote the lifestyle of a basketball player.
He, alongside Nikola Jokic, are the ones that really understood how special opportunity they received and didn't waste it. Some American stars feels a bit spoiled, compared to Giannis.
When I think of how I thought at 26 and listen to that wow he is so ahead in the game of life

I've always liked Giannis but hearing him speak in this finals really made me pull for him and the Bucks. He has such a great attitude an a humbleness that is so inspiring.
So much easier to root for athletes like him that seem to do things the right way and actually appreciate where they are and they opportunity they have.
Can't say the same about a lot of other players in this league. Everyone got too cocky.....I like that the Bucks just humbled the league. I'm saying this as a Pistons fan...Our 2004 Pistons were one of the last teams I saw actually outwork teams and care about Defense.
Giannis is one of the one players and this team, one of the only teams that carries that torch forward.

This young man popped up on my radar 3 seasons ago. I never thought he was overhyped or lacking. He brings professional respect to every aspect of the game, even to his opponents. When he says he loves this game it shows and when he says he is a man of present humility, I believe him. This is how Hakeem Olajuwan was in the second half of his career, and that’s how HE won our city it’s first championship. This young man is an elder statesmen of the game whether he knows it or not. Θα υπάρχουν και άλλοι, αλλά δεν είμαι και ο πιο 'του αθλητισμού' όποτε σίγουρα δεν θα τους ξέρω όλους.
Κανένας Έλληνας αθλητής δεν είναι στο επίπεδο του Γιάννη αυτή τη στιγμή. Δεν μπορούμε βέβαια να τον συγκρίνουμε γιατί είναι διαφορετικά σπορ με κορακακη ή πετρουνια. Ο απόηχος, η σκιά κι η επιρροή του Γιάννη αυτή τη στιγμή υπερκαλύπτει τεράστιου βεληνεκούς αθλητές απο ολο τον κόσμο. Αλλιώς θα γυριζοταν ταινία η ζωή του τσιτσιπα που έτρωγε με χρυσά κουτάλια απο παιδί και βρίζει ολο τον κόσμο ή της κορακακη που ο μπαμπάς της έφτιαξε προπονητικό κέντρο κι αμέσως μετά τη στέψη της εβριζε τη κυβέρνηση στην εσπρέσο για τις χάλια υποδομές που έχουμε. Οι μεν είναι χρυσοί στα μετάλλια και πουθενά αλλού, ο δε χρυσός στο ήθος(κι ίσως τα χρυσά μετάλλια θα έρθουν με την Εθνική μπάσκετ)
