@@johnwilliams8130 Then you haven't been an addict. Don't speak unless you haven't been in the fucking hell hole of addiction. You will lie to everyone, do whatever it takes to get the fucking fix. It's torment. It doesn't matter if it's friends or family who you are hurting. You are alone fighting addiction. It's a battle not many people can overcome, keep that in mind. 9/10 people who seek help and get methadone prescribed will never end up sober.

did you make it and how long have you been sober?
i stopped using alcohol and drugs 6 years ago, after about 8 years. The really crazy thing is that I was listening to a lot of 5FDP at that time and even more when I was in therapy. Especially the badass sound and Ivan's golden throat make me feel invincible.
i only found out through "afterlife" that Ivan used to have a drinking problem, but suddenly it all made sense to me.
he saved my life before he saved his own, HE IS MY HERO!

Get clean and sober is hard, but what’s even harder is maintaining that sobriety and clean time. I have 2 years clean from active addiction, though I will say there have been a few slip ups in there. But that’s part of the process for some, not all. I was on heroin and meth, and got clean. Found myself on prescription opioids, speed, benzos, seroquel and clonodine everyday for a year before I finally got clean for good. I was so sick coming off all that too. I had a steady supply cuz I had a doctor who would prescribe me anything I asked for. And then I had enough and wanted to get clean. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.

I love all my addicted and sober friends. We need to support our people through thick and thin. Thank you for making the music you do. Sometimes it's all we have to get through that 1 min of hell that continues day after day. I give you a lot credit foe taking that scary step to sobriety. You are worth, we are all worth it. I had almost 60 days sober when I went to see 5FPD in concert here in AZ and I bought the tickets before I got sober. It was my first ever sober "activity" and everyone I was with was drinking. They were also trying to talk me into drinking with them, saying, "c'mon if you were a real friend youd have some shots with us." The obsession was not gone yet and my mind was racing but I wanted sobriety so bad! I just needed one person to tell me to keep going! Ivan was celebrating 1 year that night and he brought up sobriety. Asked if anyone in the crowd has less than 90 days and the band gave a signed bat to someone with just a couple days sober! Talk about a spiritual experience. I made it through and still sober today!!! I celebrate 4 years on August 25th!! Thank for your your encouragement, your service, and for carrying the message!!! I can still jam out and not be drunk!🤘🏻🤘🏻

I’ve been sober for about 7.75 years and can honestly say that it’s the hardest thing that anyone would have to do. It’s more than just not drinking. It’s about relearning how to live and finding all the faults within yourself and either fixing them or finding a way around them. It’s about learning how to forgive yourself of all the ugly stuff in your past and making amends to those you’ve hurt. The alcohol/drugs are just a symptom of a much bigger problem within the addict that needs to be addressed.

I can't really put into words what is taking over me but I honestly feel like this is consuming my life. I go to work on the daily at 0600 like clockwork no problem. Function throughout the day and no issues. The moment I get home I have a beer in my hand. If I go to my friend's house I drink that much more. My motivation and drive has disappeared. It is to the point I can't see a future. I have had a lot of obsicals in my life (most of them I don't feel inclined to disclose at this time). When moderate drinking was a part of my life things did not seem that bad but this has grown over time. A lot of this stems from me drowning out the past. The thing that kills me is I can't change anything that has happened but just need to process it. In all honesty I don't know what is to come but I want too make the future better.

I haven't really experienced his downs because I'm a new fan, I only saw some videos. Listening to him about how bad it was is really hurtful, even for me so I am really happy that he had that moment of realizing that he had a problem and now staying sober. Otherwise I and many others wouldn't be able to enjoy new music from this band - or see them live. Next year is my first FFDP concert and I am really looking forward to it!

WOW that was emotional for me, as it was incredibly relatable apart from being in the impossibly pressurized face of fame. I don’t give a shit about anyone else’s opinion of him but I have enormous respect for the man. I highly doubt that Ivan would see this remark but either way he’s inspiring as hell to me. As someone who is entering a recovery program in 5 days I’ve been moved by his recovery, his inspiration and his philosophy about living a sober life.

No, I KNOW it's the reason for my anxiety and depression, and perhaps why I left a good job the day before the show. I'm now going to take advantage of the time I have to clean up and find my true self by including exercise, better diet, less caffeine and sugar (stimulants), as well as starting anxiety/antidepressant medication this week. Prayers to all going thru the struggle 🙏

5FDP was the band for me and my group of friends after American Capitalist was released. We listened to that album non-stop. Road trips, parties, just hanging out. Death Punch was our band.
We all came from rough backgrounds, but a few of those friends had it worse than all of us combined. We all smoked weed and drank to deal with our shit. Unfortunately a few of them turned to heroin and have since passed away. It was a slow and painful process watching the people I found my identity in slowly wither away and become completely dependent on opiates and the lives they were living to get their fix.
I’m grateful to see Ivan doing well these days. Every time I listened to End This Way, or any Death Punch song for that matter, but especially that one, I’m taken back to that last summer we all spent together before it all went to hell.
I wish they had something to hold on to that could’ve gotten them through it.

I met Ivan on 5FDP's first tour of Australia, in Brisbane, and even though he was drinking at the time he was far from an alcoholic at that point.
He was friendly, kind, polite, genuine, fun, funny, and generous. We hung out til like 2am, swapping stories and just talking about life.
Knowing he's normally not much of a social butterfly, I'm so incredibly thankful that he chose to interact and spend time with me.
Ivan, if you happen to see this, I know I've said it before but it really meant the world to me. Love you bro, and hope we can hang out again someday ❤

I only discovered this band last year thru the internet. I had to wonder if this guy was in recovery. Not that big a name, 5FDP I have been deep into Zeppelin since 1979, Sabath (w Dio) and Tool since 04. That's the holy trinity of big-name metal. 5FDP is better than best, I really love these guys like a fucking lizard shaman. I just learned about this guy's retirement announcement. Ivan you can hold a candle to Dio, Plant and Tool is, well, is over for me now, kind of lost interest after their last and well your work took over, you're the King. Yall are as a band, the KINGS of metal, real-death, true-word. I know PTSD deeply too. BIG love for you brother, now that I know you are sober, I don't want to bare knuckle to the death with you when I see you on your videos, (just for fun, I would go down in the first, no worries). Seriously, Ya'll (5FDP) have THE pain cry, pure rock n roll is the blues and you got to live the blues to sing the blues! Ivan has helped me like a sponsor and i am not even in that program. God program for the wounded maybe? Stay sober, quit the life of the frilly fru fru rock star, love your kids!!! life is a war zone just as is, might as well take the pain, might as well be in touch with the sunlight a duh spirit on the battlefield of this shit hole called earth, muther fukin earth
