    I like that Gavin’s argument here is: she can do it without me here therefore I don’t need to help. Imagine buying groceries with an s/o and they decide to not help you bring them inside because if they weren’t there you would be capable of doing it alone. The prerequisite for helping isn’t that the person couldn’t do the job alone.

    • @BryonYoungblood
      @BryonYoungblood 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yeah, it is pretty funny. But at the same time, Gavin has said he'd be willing to help Meg as a navigator, even if he doesn't fully pay attention to street signs. What Burnie seems to be implying is he should do it all the time, even if Gavin also is pointing out Meg doesn't need him to navigate when they're on the road all the time.

    • @wirelessgrapes2242
      @wirelessgrapes2242 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Eh, it's more like if I was in charge of buying groceries, and my s/o didn't want to make any decisions about what brand of bread we got. Deciding where to park is a decision based thing, rather than carrying groceries, which is a physical thing

      I hate it when people try to help my park regardless whether it's my gf, siblings, mates or whoever. I just find it distracting unless I literally drove past an empty spot. It's not too difficult to scan a parking lot or do a quick check on parking signs

    • @zerodawn09

XD At least it isn't as nuts as the construction conversation.

  • @PeterWDawson
    @PeterWDawson 6 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    It's such a weird argument. Pretty much none of the comparisons they come up with work, and this starts because it's assumed the passenger is apparently a co-pilot? Amusing chaotic nonsense, I love it. Thanks for the source!

    • @DARKSILVER2612
      @DARKSILVER2612 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you are in a car the person right next to the pilot is the co-pilot, for example if you are doing a trip on car while the pilot is concentrade on the road, the other person can check a map and guide, look for important signs like that ones that tell you that a road is for normal vehicules or trucks, or look where make the right turn, or if a car is to close of your car (because sometimes are blind spots on the sight of a pilot) for puting some examples, in this case gavin is on the front seat whit her girlfriend so he should work as a copilot unless she says she dont need one (but he dont even try), the point here is that gavin says: why should i look for car signs if i dont drive, on a 13 to 15 years old teenager can be a normal question, but for someone like gavin it makes no sense, imagine that gavin for any reason have an emergency and need to drive, if what gavin says was true he wouldnt be capable of drive "only if what gavin says was true", and the point what burnie tries to make is that "not because you dont do something, doesnt mean you should not care or pay attencion to it"

  • @Lycan4
    @Lycan4 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    First off, I genuinely love that people are still posting on this argument. lolz.
    I'm going to chalk this up to 'it depends on the person and place'. Apparently, a lot of people do agree with Burnie, in that helping someone find a parking spot is what is polite and expected. However, where I come from... if you try to help someone find a parking spot, you get chewed out for being a backseat driver. Unless I explicitly ask you for help, or I'm about to do something illegal because I'm distracted, you shut your damn mouth about my driving. I'm with Gavin on this one. Unless you need directions, driving isn't a joint effort.

  • @PurpleTheta
    @PurpleTheta 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    “Where do you park your jet ski?”
    My face slowly turned into Burnie’s face. A jet ski, really? A jet ski is a single-seat vehicle (excluding someone holding onto you from behind). I learned that if you *know* the person you’re driving with, you ask them, “Hey, uh, you need help finding a spot to park?” Because when you go out to an event where there’s zero parking space, and people are parked on the grass or wherever, you *definitely* help the driver find a spot to park in.
    Simple terms: if they ask for help, help. If they say no, shrug it off.

    I would just be the alarm/insurance cause some drivers are just totally ignorant.
    I was in a car when my friend almost crashed into another because he did not notice the moron who was literally parked on the bridge, and for some reason my friend did not register in his mind that he should move out of the way. Kept telling me "Man if you didn't say anything, we would've crashed"
    While some of my ignorant friends just refuses to follow some street rules and sometimes just speed right through very dangerous places, especially at night. Whenever I point it out, they just say "Haven't crashed yet"
    Plus, looking around also helps you learn the streets if you're not familiar with the place.
    In the podcast's situation, sometimes if you spot a better parking, why not suggest it? And if I use Gavin's challenge about helicopters, jet skis, and planes... Well if I know how to use those things, sure I'd definitely look out as a co-pilot or something, but I ain't, so I'd shut up and let the ones who are pros to do it

    it’s not even the really about the “helping look for parking” thing
    It’s common understanding to be at least aware of your surroundings if you’re in the front seat, so if the driver missed a one-way or a “no turn on red”, or if there’s a person, animal, or a car about to go out in front of you, you can alert the driver so neither of you are in danger. hell, even saying “hey there’s a cop slow down” or helping check traffic over your shoulder for lane changes too.
    90%+ of the time you won’t have to do or say anything, because yes, they’re likely able to handle it just fine!

      @@Muffin_Pack lol gus still wasnt the one that brought it up... and gavin just said the pilot doesn't need help... i was just saying it was gavin that brought the pilot up, so idk why it matters what gavin was saying after that( or what he was "implying"). all i was saying is GAVIN brought up the pilot. See you said GUS brought up the analogy, which was the point i was making, gavin brought it up. Should i say gavin brought it up again? It doesnt matter that gavin back tracked to make himself look right(better or anything i dont care), he still brought it up.

    Why do they treat parking like it's raising a kid? One person can figure out where to park just fine.

    Gavin would see a No Parking sign, say nothing, then when you get a ticket say "Oh I saw it when we parked, but I thought you knew what you were doing."
    Why are people friends with him?

    Gavin is right in this if you’re the passenger you sit down shut up and if the driver needs help they shouldn’t be driving

    Gavin isn't born in the states, right? Did he not have a valid driver's license before coming over either from overseas - it sounds like he has never actually driven a car or paid attention on the road

    As someone who does not have a driver's license and does not plan to get one, I very much see where Gavin's coming from. I have been a passenger a lot and I always assume the person driving has a better understanding of where to park than me, so unless they ask (they never ask) I leave it to them. It's never once been a problem, I think Gus and Burnie blew this way outta proportion.

    I absolutely agree with Gavin on this lmao, you're not supposed to co-pilot the car, pointing out parking spots, like no one does that.
