One of my Bumba cabocla (Brazilian Red Head) tarantulas just matured out into a Matured Male. Not being a very common species here, I could only think of one person who has a Matured Female. Headed over to his place to take her back for the pairing attempt. Wouldn’t it be cool if the pairing is a success? Well, she didn’t agree much with me, unfortunately.

I did notice that when the males back away and are very cautious, they tend to get eaten. I would say if the males back away, put them back into their enclosure.
I don't know if tarantulas have a 6th sense, but the few males I've seen that were cautious did get eaten so I get the feeling they can sense when the female isn't up for mating...

I think it's best to move them both into a reasonably large and empty container whilst breeding.
She was in her hide and her own territory where she's used to being fed in the same place all the time.
If she were in a new place with plenty of space and a male, she'd probably be much less likely to see it as food and be much less territorial as it's not her own enclosure.

@@ronaldfelix228 Even in rehousing videos females are more defensive in their original home ;but once rehoused calm right down. Also we're not just trying to replicate nature, with husbandry of any animals making the natural experience better with intelligence should always be the goal.
It’s actually encouraged within the hobby to introduce males to the female in her own habitat. Cuz that’s how it happens in the wild; males follow her scent or trail, find her within her den, and mating/death ensues.
And this is the most ideal practice because it’s closest to what these creatures perform in nature. Males tend to wander in search of a female’s den before they die virgins.

Well this is to be expected. Imagine being in your house just chilling and someone you never met walks through the door. A intruder is in your home and you don’t have anything to protect yourself with only claws and legs. Obviously the spider is gonna use its legs if it gets the intruder away. If the spider has to lull him into a false sense of security she will. And she did. And it worked and he got eaten. If you wanna mate tarantula they have to be put in a new container that neither one owns and thus the mating would be successful

To answer everyone’s question, yes the white drop is the guy’s juice. I am an arachnologist and have bred, handled, fed and raised many tarantulas in my time and I can confidently confirm that white drop was unfortunately the little guy’s stuff.

He’s not as close as it looks, he zooms in with his cameras. There’s a small possibility his shadow/lighting may have affected them as tarantulas can be triggered by lights and movements, but even then I don’t think it would’ve made a difference in this case and watching the video it doesn’t seem to have affected them much if at all.
Have you ever watched Dave's little Beastie's channel..he is a older man..with tons of experience and knowledge about KOOL spiders..he does it right..especially when in comes to pairing his spiders..just thought you mite like to see how a old pro does it
I was thinking the same thing. When they see and feel something big moving around their environment it's usually a threat. Also that habitat for the female seems way too small for her size. She was being crammed into the top of her hide when the male tried to mate.
