I think it's best to move them both into a reasonably large and empty container whilst breeding. She was in her hide and her own territory where she's used to being fed in the same place all the time. If she were in a new place with plenty of space and a male, she'd probably be much less likely to see it as food and be much less territorial as it's not her own enclosure.
