I really think that Seth McFarlane really just wanted to write Star Trek, so he disguised the early episodes of The Orville as "a parody", and by the time it was clearly no longer a parody, it was too much of its own thing to call a ripoff. And it leads to awesome moments like this.

    • @WorgenGrrl

    • @god-vr2sr
      @god-vr2sr 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +44

This is partially accurate. Seth MacFarlane did want to write Star Trek. He was an extra in Star Trek Enterprise and was a huge fan of TNG and with the direction the Abrams/Kurtzman Trek was going he did want the Orville to counter it and bring back a better version of Star Trek closer to Rodenberrrys vision. However it was actually FOX at the time that forced the comedy into the Orville they wouldn't back it without it! I just hope that if there is a Season 4 that Disney doesn't ruin it by injecting their crap into it!

For years I have been telling people that this show is the true follow-on to _'The Next Generation'_ Era and rightful inheritor of the Star Trek legacy.
Not Fake Trek: Duhscovery or Fake Trek: Pretendcard (Seasons 1&2. Season 3 of Picard made an honest effort to course correct and honor canon and the fans).

This right here is why The Orville is truly more Star Trek that modern star trek actually is.
The pain and Anger you feel towards the Mochlans, that only gets worse when you see Topa enter. Then Bortus's speech breaks your heart.
Then slowly you feel the hope as the committee starts to stand in solidarity. And when you find out the Mochlans have been expelled from the Union you're happy and just relieved.
Then finally, like all good star trek always did, the episode leaves you hopeful for a better tomorrow. BUT still leaves you with questions about the outcomes of the decision and where this universe you're watching will find itself next week.
The Fall, Rise and Leveling out of the hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow that Star trek has sadly forgotten.

AActually more. I was thinking about why Star Trek kind of bothers me, and looking at Orville I can see why. The Moclans aren't 'allies' they are part of the Union, but their attitudes are abysmal. But they make all the weapons meaning the Union has tolerated this behaviour for decades or centuries. Star Trek always plays up the idea of humans just being perfect, that they have 'evolved' to a perfect moral climate, which means when they do horrible things it is always 'for a good cause' and they are never wrong. But here the Union has actively done wrong and the conflict is how much longer they can tolerate being complicit with an act of barbarity. So they change, they do something which in Star Trek they wouldn't do. In Star Trek culture is supposed to be sancrosant, unchanging, so long as humans are 'perfect.' Here the humans know they are flawed, they fucked up, and now they have to either adhere to their principles or admit they don't have any, if they can allow this to continue. If this was Star Trek I don't think they'd admit to making a mistake.

But then I was at a friend's house and they were watching the Orville. And they asked if I was concerned about spoilers, which I said no cause I wasn't interested in watching the show. So they saw the season finale of season 1 with me along for the ride. That moment changed my life.
I went home that day, asked my gf for her Hulu account, and straight binged the first 2 seasons. And absolutely loved the 3rd season. I couldn't believe how good it was. Forget sci-fi, I think Orville put out some of the finest tv overall with the 2nd half of season 2 and all of season 3.

A long time ago the Moclans were 2 sexes, male and female, an advanced race came along and genetically engineered the Moclans into 1 sex with the children having a quick childhood so that they could become soldiers faster, and this other race would have a ready supply of troops, for whatever reason they didn’t or they barely got round to using the Moclans. The females who are being born is nature’s way of trying to correct what was done to the Moclans.
I also reckon that the Moclan high council know this and it's why they have zero tolerance for any deviation which could spell the end of their rule.

Peter Macon is fantastic in this scene. It’s in his voice and even under all that makeup, it’s clear what he’s expressing. It’s not just the rage of a father whose child was hurt. It’s the sadness over the trauma Topa experienced, its the betrayal by his people, his helplessness in the face of being unable to prevent what happened and to make the galaxy a safe place for his daughter to live. And above it all? The guilt. The insurmountable parental guilt for failing to protect her from all of it.
Peter Macon deserves an Emmy for his role as Bortus. He’s often played as a joke in many scenes, but scenes like this? In only a few lines, he evoked more emotion and sympathy than I’ve felt on TV in many years. I can only hope his talent is truly recognized.

Best part about this scene is that after all that bluster and grandstanding from the maclon representatives, once bortus came in with his kid they knew they lost all credibility and standing in the union.

When the Orville started, I always hated it when they focused on Bortus and the Mocclans as it always seemed to devolve into juevenile humour. It says a lot that not only is this one of my favourite scenes of the season, but they've made me care a lot more about Bortus and the Mocclan storyline since those early days. Season 3 has been great for so many reasons, including bringing in Bruce Boxleitner (one of my favourite actors) as president of the union, but we can all agree the writing is perhaps where this season shined the most.

1 of the best scenes of The Orville: Bortus stod up to his species when they went too far. I do hope Season 3 of The Orville gets a DVD release. A tv-series SHOULD have ALL its seasons released on DVD. I dont wanna knee infront of streaming-services & i dont wonna rely on them when i wanna see something, I wanna have them on Physical-Media & i STILL support Physical-Media! I also hope for MORE seasons of The Orville & i hope MORE Star Trek actors like William Shatner, Patrick Stewart & John DeLancie will guest appear on it to.

There wouldn't be the show "The Orville" if the creator didn't overslept. This is what I heard. On September 10, 2001, Seth MacFarlane got drunk. On September 11, 2001, he was so drunk that he overslept in his hotel room and missed his flight. That flight is one of the planes that flew into the World Trade Center in New York. That is one of stories that came to a good end.

Im'a stop you right there, and tell you to leave fanfic land. Because that's a terrible idea. If you wags write a series of stories based on original characters all on a space station go right ahead, first set the tone, then the theme, then the ruled. Then decide each of your characters personalities, then write the story, giving realistic consequences for each characters actions and decisions.
Don't use characters other people created to tell a story that they reasonably wouldn't be part of. We've got enough of that shit already.
