It's sad how this is the stuff they SHOULD be teaching us in college yet we have to come to youtube to learn this for free while colleges are sealing tens of thousands of dollars to teach us outdated technology or concepts that will be obsolete by the time of graduation.
Thank you for this information. I recently became HOH after my father passed and didn't even know about this a year later.
My only suggestion is fix the audio. The explanation volume was low and then the ending switch was blasted in my speakers lol. Overall, great and informative video.

Thank you so much for the video it was very helpful. I definitely am ahead of household and I am not sure what whether to enter in a zero or a one I have one child who's a dependent who lives in the house for more than 50% of the time. Is there a benefit to filing with a zero or one under head of household or do I have to choose a one because I have one dependent? Thank you so much again

IHave a question. If I am a home owner and house my daughter(age 9, 50/50 custody) and pay half of her bills and she stays with me half the time, but ex-wife is claiming her on her taxes as a dependent. Am I still eligible to file as head of house hold?

Depends if court or seperate on decree states who can get to claim the child. Could also go down to which parents has highest adjusted gross income, they can then claim dependent. Idk if u can claim if someone else already claimed. Best choice is go with certified tax preparer

My sister said she wasnt allowed to file HOH because both her 20/22 year old kids earned $4400 for the year meaning she didnt pay more than 50%. That doesn't sound right. It obviously takes FAR more than that to run a home.

If I’m single no kids but live with my parents and help with at least half the expenses for everything. My mother is unable to work because of a bad wreck so I moved back in to help them that being the case which do I need to file under?

    • @realg4lifefoo168

Your mom , if your dad working obviously you can't use him. Also make sure your dad doesn't file taxes as HOH bc if so that's automatically including your mom as an dependent so Make sure she's not being claimed by no one but you

My sister and her bf had a baby in Dec. My sister claimed her and received her income tax already. The baby’s father now wants her social and birth certificate info just so he can claim head of household but doesn’t want to claim the baby. Is this possible? They don’t live together. They both live with each of their parents but the baby living with my sister.
Whole argument about this because my sister just doesn’t want any problems with the IRS

It's my understanding that two people can't simultaneously claim the same dependent unless they are married filing jointly. I could be wrong. Hope everything works out for your sister.

Does an adult child (24 years or older who is still in college) qualify as a dependent?? They make zero dollars, and were supported completely for all 365 days of the tax year.
Dependent elderly parent or adult child, yes?
