She is wonderful, could you tell her I would sing with her part(in Italian)when I was maybe 5yrs old. I grew up with my mom playing Mario Lanza's records, I am sure it was because she was half Italian, and loved classical music. For me this is nothing short of a Fantastic Memory. Could you tell her that for me. Please. Thank you, either way.
He was an American soldier in WWII and trained in Texas. I sang this to my driver Gianni who escorted me to the site of the Gari River where my died lost in leg in World War II. Bloody Rapido in Cassino. Grazie Gianni.
I so love that this man with a wonderful voice had such a generous spirit to give this child with her amazing voice her opportunity to shine. What a loss to us all, his voice and his heart
I'like Mario Lanza wery wery, but he was one of the first. You forget great polish tenor JAN KIEPURA, 19 movies and opera cariere. Famous IN EUROPA befor and after WWII. Das Lied einer Nacht"(1932).
This performance is a wonderful example of the fantastic talent of Mario Lanza. He was amazing. He was simultaneously a great tenor, a marvelous recording artist, a global movie star and a highly sought after concert performer. A splendid book captures his talent, passion and love of his art: A KID FROM PHILADELPHIA, MARIO LANZA, THE VOICE OF THE POETS. It is a beautiful homage and should be read while listening to Mario sing.
I've been two times Rome and I'm not sick of it. Rome is a wonderful city and I was always unhappy when I had to leave it. I wish I will go back there.
Mario Lanza & Luisa De Meo. what a beautiful & enchanting duet couple, a very young girl singing arrivederci roma with the great tenor & she held her own considering her age, against the powerful tenor. What a talented & brave girl. It was wonderful to see how he softened his voice to accommodate the little Italian girl & that is a sign of a gentleman & a family man with four kids. Lanza''s facial expression, head & arm movements, sheer perfection & in affinity with the music & you expect that from this great international super star professional, talented with his versatility of opera & romantic ballads. Rest in heavenly peace great star & i am certain the angels will sing to you.
Lanza was one of my dad's favourite singers. He had the voice, the personality, the charm, and was very, very appealing in all sorts of ways. Thanks for this clip.
Yes, such a wonderful thing for both of them. I am so glad he did. I wonder if he knows how much of an impact and positive effect he had made on various generations. I'm a Baby Boomer and it has been wonderful for me. :) Thank you Michele for reminding me of this fact! So kind on all aspects, indeed. Beautiful it's just beautiful.
Jan2021- omg..I was maybe 4yrs old listening to Mario Lanza or watching one of his movies, along with some of the other classical records with my mom. hehe..I would keep asking her to let me play this song over and over, so I could practice it..hehe (yes-In Italian) at the top of my lungs, hehe. Wow.. playing, pretending, and listening to these classical songs, a memory of mom in the kitchen cooking, the smell of spaghetti sauce through the house it is an amazing memory looking back, hearing, and singing with this song now. I wished I had thought to get to those records before anyone else did, they were a big part of my growing up life. Now I want to cry (tears) aside from that
I had a privilege and honour to get to know the "little girl" Luisa Di Meo, in 2003 - in Tocco De Causaria, at Mario Lanza's mother home town where a tribute (festival of "belcanto") to Mario was held. She was a special guest there and she was/is a very nice and kind lady.
I would love to meet either of them,, I wonder if she knows, there had to be many young girls who would sing along with her, at the top of their lungs, she has such a beautiful voice. They both do. Thank you for sharing, this is wonderful to hear. Such a wonderful memory to have. :)
It's good to hear lo Lanza again. This was one of his nicest movies, especialli the scen where he performs in the style of Satchmo, Dean Martin etc. Thanks for posting.
Magical ! Bravo ! Muto bella ! jjj1951 , thank you so much for the info ! For my money she "makes" this scene ! Her obvious rapport with Mr. Lanza is wonderful to behold and it's so nice to know that he was genuinely fond of her ! Wonderful clip ... ahhh... for those day again . David
Bob Bebob I like very much to visit old movie..Clips..because I never saw before..I like very much classic Music..and opera..but I thinkopera is in crisis..l don#t like to much modern kich Intervention in the Libretto..
So very happy to log in to this video. Remember listening to Mario on my dad's 78 rpm collection and playing his "Be my Love" and "La Danza" over and over again. Such a loss. ANDY - Singapore
I remember seeing this movie when I was a Kid and Mario was singing with a young boy, was I dreaming? Did they make two versions of this scene? Mario Lanza was indeed a great singer, such passion is missing from a lot of singers, I mean those who can actually sing ha ha.
Great tenor!!! ***** Sweet melody and a delightful video... Wonderful romantic English lyrics... It's hard to creat more beautiful words... Thanks a lot Kostas for sharing and many thanks balletamie for posting!
I lost this video, but so pleased that I have found again this lovely & so simple song showing the compassion that Lanza felt to have this little girl singing with him.
This is beautiful in terms of setting and the magnificent voice of Mario Lanza. He was amazing. A new, bestselling book, " A Kid from Philadelphia, Mario Lanza, the Voice of the Poets," describes the fascination of so many celebrities who idolized him and his magnificent qualities as a great tenor and popular singer.
aaahhhh but did ya know...while there to film, mario heard her singing on the streets for money. so they got her to sing with him. she had said she was so afraid of his greatness..imagine that..what a sweet voice she had..all so angel sweet!!
Luisa di Meo was only playing a street urchin. I do not think she was a street urchin herself. In this scene in the movie, I remember he is at the Piazza Navona and sees the little girl as a street urchin, singing for money, but no one notices her or gives her alms. So gentleman Mario approaches her and offers to help. He sings ARRIVEDERCI ROMA and then, as we see here, she follows, and then after the song, folks come throwing coins to her hat. So it worked, and he leaves without expecting a thank you. We know Mario was Italian American, but I think Luisa herself has a very southern accent (Neopolitan?) along with her singing style - not the accent or style of Rome or the north at all. Native Italians could clarify this. But I thought she was charming. Mario of course was magnificent as usual.
She is my great-Aunt. Mario Lanza was a good friend of the my family, and my uncle Paul's god father...
Please. Thank you, either way.
it moves me...every time I see this clip. wonderful. did she continue singing?
Lucky you
Luisa Di Meo is your Great-Aunt ? Aren't they both still in italy, their both over 66 now ? Was this movie & song in the 1950s ?
Wow
He was an American soldier in WWII and trained in Texas. I sang this to my driver Gianni who escorted me to the site of the Gari River where my died lost in leg in World War II. Bloody Rapido in Cassino. Grazie Gianni.
What a mega legend! My sicilan mother loved him
I so love that this man with a wonderful voice had such a generous spirit to give this child with her amazing voice her opportunity to shine. What a loss to us all, his voice and his heart
cant help,it makes me crying.
This genius can draw a tear from me with every song he sings.
When I m in Rome, in piazza Navona, I listen always this song.
Mario Lanza was great artist with an italian soul
The greatest Italian tenor of his generation, and the first one to leave a real mark in motion pictures.
I'like Mario Lanza wery wery, but he was one of the first. You forget great polish tenor JAN KIEPURA, 19 movies and opera cariere. Famous IN EUROPA befor and after WWII.

I've been two times Rome and I'm not sick of it. Rome is a wonderful city and I was always unhappy when I had to leave it. I wish I will go back there.
I doubt you'll go this year, and wow, this is OLD

According to her bio she was 41 here?
Lanza was one of my dad's favourite singers. He had the voice, the personality, the charm, and was very, very appealing in all sorts of ways. Thanks for this clip.
Einfach nur schön !
He saw her/ heard her on a corner. Singing for money. He was amazed by her voice and put her in his movie!
Yes, such a wonderful thing for both of them. I am so glad he did. I wonder if he knows how much of an impact and positive effect he had made on various generations. Oh, what a touchy story~ Thank you
Great song. Great singers. Lovely girl. Great film.
I heard he was the ONLY one who was impressed by her.
A delightful ballad! Loved the girl’s singing! Lanza was a hugely talented singer. It was tragic that he died so young.

no one sings like Mario
