Mario Duplantier is an absolute unit. One of the best drummers of our time, genuinely. Gojira is an absolutely incredible band to witness live.. I hope to see them again one day, as a headliner
I highly recommend you check out Chad Smith from Red Hot chili peppers doing the same thing with The Kill.
Yeah that’s one of the best drumeos because he just dove right into the song

Mario is so good at drumming around the melodies and song structures that he made Jake think there was a time signature change in the choruses that isn't there. 😄
The new video with Mike Portnoy playing Nickelback is such a good watch!
It's funny you mentioned Meshuggah because about a year ago, maybe two, Drumeo did a video of one of their staff members learning Meshuggah's song "Rational Gaze". It is an awesome video and we'll worth checking out. If I remember correctly, the Drumeo staff member that learned the song is the guy we see in this video who was talking Jake Sommers through everything.
You absolutely need to see Frank Bellucci doing Rob Zombie's Dragula. It's got to be one of the best ones, if not the best. Frank's just not as well known as some of the other drummers.
The fact that Mario plays this on such a minimal drumkit is insane as well.
Do the one with Larnell Lewis hearing a jazz song once and playing it perfectly.
Being a multi-instrumentalist, I’ve been able to dodge a lot of the tired drummer jokes - “What do you someone who hangs around with musicians? A drummer!” While Jake certainly wasn’t expected to create a drum part as ferocious and proggy as Mario, this video is a good reminder that trained, professional musicians, (yes even drummers) on most all instruments aren’t always limited to the genre or genres in which they make their living. For a dude that plays country music, that spontaneous interpretation was likely way better and more professional than the wannabe metalhead drummers sitting at home not earning a dime as musicians and will surely show up here to shit on this drummer.
Big Goodyear fan big Luke comes fan. Love this
Hello from New England.. I've seen this vid but it was very cool... I'm a drummer and know a number of Gojira songs and Mario Duplantier is an alien lol...Even with a pretty straight forward song such as this Mario adds weird fills and does stuff with meter that takes it to a whole different level..Stranded is all jazz in the drums and very impressive live Thx for the vid 🧐✌️🤘
@OB Dave, I get a ton of ads from Drumeo on my stuff and according to them, that set is about 36 inches across (just shy of a meter). Hope that helps.
Bruh, Mario Duplantier is God tier drumming... ain't nobody, experienced or not keeping up on a blind play through!! Pulled it out in the end of his second try though!!
Would have liked to see Porcupine Tree - The Sound of Muzak. Gavin Harrison is a god tier drummer as well.
Do the Chad Smith Drumeo video please! 😊
Nic Collins (Phil Collins son) has done a few that are great.
Do more Drumeo videos!
Any chance watching El Estepario Siberiano? Man is crazy.
You should introduce Ash (and possibly yourself) to some Buddy Rich videos.
Drumeo, Portnoy plays Nickelback next!
Dave, you gotta react to Rotting Christ - Χ Ξ Σ (666)
Not insulting, very curious. Does he happen to be blind in his left eye?
Um... first or something 😂
reminder that country drummers should stay in their lane
That don't even make sense most drummers in country come from a metal background or rock background.
@@ki11atj49 not this one evidently
@@dima3899 That wasn't your point
@@ki11atj49 OK buddy
Bro you know country and metal or like the same thing. Metal is just sped up with distortion. There is a lot of people that like country music and love metal because there are similar they are.
Love luke combs and I love Gojira.
