Great video ! I like the idea of using three screws to hold the uni strut down.I am going to put threaded aluminum rivet inserts in my sheet metal roof and bolt the uni strut in place. Thanks

Jeff, nice video, dig the music!. So my question is:. Why did you attach the short pieces of Unistrut to the ribs and not just attach the full length pieces of the Unistrut, directly to the ribs?. for giving you some adjustability?.
    Thanks
    E. Jones

Yes a full length piece of unistrut would be stronger, easier to install and give more flexibility, but to me it was an unnecessary expense. The feet serve its purpose well!

I see you're in a wooded area. A video from the UK was putting mesh around the perimeter of the panels to keep vermin and birds from nesting. In snowy Ontario that could be a problem. I just wondered if you've had any issues with nesting critters?

      No issues whatsoever

You state the clearance needs to be 3.75 to 4 inches so what clearance does this give you? Did you use long enough screws to penetrate the wood sub-roof or just on the rib of the metal roof? Nice job.

My panels were the slightly deeper ones. Ignoring the sheet metal ridges, the bottom of my glass was about 4” above the roof. I previously found some research paper that gave the 3.75-4” figure. I actually used the same length screws as used to attach the sheet metal to my roof. In fact I simply reused some. I do have 3/4” plywood below the metal though. Yes I penetrated the plywood below. Make sure to use the deeper unistrut for the height.
I have found another research paper recently stating that mounting the panels horizontally, ie struts vertically, is also better for snow issues.
