This performance puts Sam ahead of her idol, Idina Menzel in one aspect of performance. I've seen a concert on TH-cam Idina gave where she sang the songs as herself, not as the characters. Most of them it didn't matter to me, but as it is so strongly associated with her, "Defying Gravity" did. Sam gives this performance as if she's Eponine, not herself.
