I was never really into fragrances (military life doesn't allow it to really fit in), but now that I am out, I'm finding out that I missed out on a lot of really great fragrances. So, videos like these help me have a chance to get my nose on what I missed out on. Thanks for the help and great ideas.
Mine is a feminine fragrance called O Oui by Lancome. It was my first introduction to fragrance which my Mom bought me in my late teens. That was my signature scent for the longest time. For an Edt, it had great performance, lasted all day on me, and a great compliment getter. Eventually it got discontinued in the early 2000s. I do sometimes see it for sale on Amazon.
@@ThePerfumeGuy personally I think they smell nothing alike. Revlon Ciara smells very similar to Bal A Versailles. Even today. It’s definitely lighter but very similar I’ve not tried Salome, I’m sure it’s better quality and that original animalic vibe while Ciara is mostly resinous.
Drakkar noir was my favorite when I went to school late 80s would put 3 sprays on before school and could still smell when i got home. Now it's gone within an hour on my skin

YSL Rive Gauche pour femme has also been annihilated. I remember my step mom wearing it in the 80’s. I went to smell it last week at the airport duty free. It was weak and synthetic in a very cheap way…
Thank you for this video. I own Midnight In Paris and Prada Luna Rossa Black and I can smell the similarity. Both great powdery, uber luxurious fragrances with good longevity. I get a lot of compliments when wearing them. I'm wearing Midnight In Paris sparingly now, knowing it is discontinued.
Sebastian, thank you for yet another informative and interesting video. Although I still have several of those discontinued fragrances, I use them very sparingly and sometimes just smell them without spraying. But now that I know there is an alternative, I can spray myself more liberally because I know I can replicate that perfume and still enjoy the replica of it.!
The main difference between Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme (2003) and Bentley Absolute is that the Gucci has a much more noticeable Ginger note. Definitely great replacement as both are done by Michel Almairac

As far as old fragrances that were reformulated and I wish I could find good dupes of, I would have to say the two big 90s Calvin Klein hits: CK One and CK Be. I loved both of these fragrances back in the 90s when I was in high school. I wore the crap out of them I still have about 20ml left in a 1996 bottle of CK One, but I refuse to wear it now. After not having either one of these for 20+ years, I ordered new bottles of both CK One and CK Be about a year ago and, man, I was so disappointed. They were horribly thin, just watery impressions of what they used to be. I'd love to find something that would perform like they used to - these new ones had no oomph to them and barely last 3 hours. (Bonus: A new version of CK Escape would be nice too, also loved that one.)
Years ago, I picked up Floris Santal as an alternative to Gucci Envy based on your comparison video from a while back and it definitely scratches that itch.

Another great video! The only discontinued perfume I really really miss is Laura Biagiotti’s Venezia Uomo, released in 1995. It was special. If anyone here knows an alternative to it, or a clone, I would be very grateful! There are several vintage bottles around, but after getting three turned ones I have given up on the original.
A possible alternative for Byredo’s Unnamed might be Alaia Paris. It’s ozonic with pink pepper at the opening, and very violet, with leather and musk, so it might give a similar vibe, through I doubt they are close enough to be dupes.
Anybody here remembers Escada Collection from the late 90’s? I missnthatbfragrance SO much, discontinued of course. I recently bought Xerjoff Bouquet Idealle, and as Sebastian says, not a dupe, not identical, but so similar and so beautiful!!!! 😊

When they discontinued Bvlgari Black, I wasn't too sad because I had discovered a cheap alternative by Tokyomilk called Dead Sexy. It is a more pared-down, less rubbery version. I do love Luna Rossa Black too, but I have heard that it is discontinued as well. I still really miss Minotaure. I need to try Wake Up World. I wish I could find some alternatives to some of my favorite old colognes, like DK Men, D&G Masculine, and Kiehl's Forest Rain. Thanks 😎

Armani Attitude is a discontinued frag that I love. When I first smelled it it seemed very familiar. Perhaps I smelled Zino Davidov or Balenciaga pour home, I don't know. I have tried Zino but it is just not the same, it is more aromatic and just not as smooth. It smells very similar but it is somehow missing what makes AA so good to me. I haven't smelled the Balenciaga that you mentioned in the previous episode as smelling like Zino but it is discontinued anyway, so is there other viable alternatives to AA? BAV was astonishingly good. I have a tiny bottle of the perfume. Top notes are a bit tired and the fragrance is still marvellous. Salome is its own thing and also lovely. I’d love to get a list of TF clones that are replacing the many, many reformulations. I loved Moss Breche but that one has been cut forever. I have a bottle I’ve hoarded forever.
Rive Gauche in the metal bottle was the perfect gym bag fragrance, I miss it. Aesop body and face care all smell lovely but sadly out of my price range for everyday use.

Salome really is great! I wanna test Midnight in Paris - I have Esperidi Water of Merchant of Venice, less or more the same, I think. Estée Lauder Knowing has been reformulated, I assume due to the oak moss and civet? It’s the only fragrance my mom has worn since it’s release and the reformulation is just not the same. I wonder if there is a niche alternative out there.

Oh gosh the original was superb. I first smelled it in ‘90 gave a bottle for my mom. It was quite heavenly at the time with massive projection and sillage.

Unpopular opinion maybe, but I like the current Fahrenheit EDT more than Portrayal Man :) Incidentally my nose seems consistent with their scores in Parfumo: 8.3 for Fahrenheit vs. 7.8 for Portrayal Man I'll look for that alternative to Rive Gauge

Fahrenheit Parfum is very vanillic and boozy it's more bordering gourmand. You can try the Prada Luna Rossa Black for the Bvlgari Black as well. I'll see if I can find any others! :)

Wow you guys have a ton of great fragrances there in London. You have access to so many. Start out with the cheap or less expensive niche houses to get acquainted with stuff and styles then move on to more expensive houses. Imaginary Authors, Essential Parfums, Gallivant, S. Baker collection to name a few! :)
I have yet to find anything similar to the Original Calvin by Calvin Klein. I've tried Bond No. 9 Cooper Square, as it was compared to Calvin by more people at fragrantica than any other fragrance. Bond is missing 90% of that bright, beautiful opening. It strikes me as linear, and it captures only a PART of Calvin that is very background throughout Calvin's development. I'll be eternally grateful if you can please help me 😊 Thank you

Do you have any suggestions for alternatives to Brut or Quorum? The openings of the reformulations are decent, but the dry-downs are super-meh.

Encre Noire Sport is an almost better version of Oud Minerale with cypress. I don't like oud minerale but I definitely like ENS... also way cheaper.

Estée Lauder Knowing has been reformulated, I assume due to the oak moss and civet? It’s the only fragrance my mom has worn since it’s release and the reformulation is just not the same. I wonder if there is a niche alternative out there.

Oh gosh the original was superb. I first smelled it in ‘90 gave a bottle for my mom. It was quite heavenly at the time with massive projection and sillage.
I love Alien Oud Majestueux so much, but I don't dare to use it anymore because I don't want to finish my bottle. It's discontinued and I don't know where I can find it still. 🌹

Paloma Picasso perfume is hard to find nowadays & I'm yet to find a replacement for when I can no longer buy it.
I absolutely loved the original Stella by Stella McCartney! It was the first perfume I was obsessed with. Wish I could find it again.

Yes YSL M7 oud absolu. Absolutely loved it and wish they re released it again.
It's still on the YSL French website. But most likely they will kill it soon.

Unpopular opinion maybe, but I like the current Fahrenheit EDT more than Portrayal Man :) Incidentally my nose seems consistent with their scores in Parfumo: 8.3 for Fahrenheit vs. 7.8 for Portrayal Man

Fahrenheit Parfum is very vanillic and boozy it's more bordering gourmand. You can try the Prada Luna Rossa Black for the Bvlgari Black as well. I'll see if I can find any others! :)

Wow you guys have a ton of great fragrances there in London. You have access to so many. Start out with the cheap or less expensive niche houses to get acquainted with stuff and styles then move on to more expensive houses. Imaginary Authors, Essential Parfums, Gallivant, S. Baker collection to name a few! :)

I have yet to find anything similar to the Original Calvin by Calvin Klein.
I've tried Bond No. 9 Cooper Square, as it was compared to Calvin by more people at fragrantica than any other fragrance. Bond is missing 90% of that bright, beautiful opening. It strikes me as linear, and it captures only a PART of Calvin that is very background throughout Calvin's development.

I never got a chance to try Gucci Pour Homme and now you have to pay a crazy steep price for it in the fragcom. Might have to give the Bentley a chance just to get an idea of the DNA.
