just ran Thordan EX for the 1st time a few days ago. And after a few tries, that part is somewhat easy. Still doesn't allow for any mistakes though.

Lol this is why I stopped caring about these fights. its getting to the point where you need 4 years of college courses, a sacrificial lamb and the planets have to be aligned while you sing your ABC's just to beat them.

Really? Did it an hour ago and while we wiped to spear thrust (we didn't know it would wipe us if even one person died) we cleared pretty easily after the second pull. You can basically skip half the mechanics with enough DPS.
I'm not sure what for, but I decided to take a close look at this video (only took me an hour of research on this video and the wiki, ugh) to find out which knights participate in the fight, and which one does what. And so:
Zephirin does Sacred Cross, tethers to Thordan to make him invulnerable, and throws the spear you must stack for in the first Knights of the Round (the move with which he killed Haurchefant)...even though he's supposed to be the greatsword wielder.
Chaibert (better known as Ser Charizard) chains people together with Holy Chain and throws out the Heavensflare AOEs. No chess pieces wall though.
Vellguin, Paulecrain and Ignasse are the lance team, who tether to people for Spiral Pierce, do the Skyward Leap blue markers and charge through the arena with Spiral Thrust. They perform the third Knights Of The Round.
Hermenost is a thunder mage (who apparently uses an axe and uses Enthunder on it, RDM confirmed) who does the paralysing Conviction towers
Adelphel and Janlenoux are the PLDs who must be tanked separately, both for some reason participate in stunning the healer in the first Knights of the Round
Haumeric is the ice mage (noob) who does all the ice puddle AOEs throughout
Grinnaux is the axe wielder who performs the Dimensional Collapse black/red puddles (apparently they signify big slashes) and knocks back from the centre
Noudenet is the fire mage responsible for the Holy Meteors and the big meteor phase right before the ultimate
Finally, Guerrique is the 2nd axe wielder responsible for the Heavy Impact orange earthquakes from the meteor phase.
For people who are interested, the phase with the second sacred cross isnt the hard enrage. The hard enrage is an ancient Quaga following this, except it has a longer cast time.
The group I ran this with nearly wiped on our successful run. I was gunbreaker and our other tank was a warrior and I went down after a ascalon's mercy with both the healers. The warrior managed to take down thordan by herself for the last 7% of his health. Suffice to say, we were ecstatic.

Id recommend using tank LB 3 for Phase 8. It makes that phase really simple & keeps everyone's HP full for the Quaga right after. Pop LB 3 right when the tethers come out & the only thing you need to worry about is.
1. face away from boss
2. break tethers
3. bait Ice puddles away from boss
4. Dodge Ascalon's Mercy (this still does a knock back if it hits you. Wall still = death)

Thordan does infact have a hard enrage after knights 5 (phase 9). After Sacred Cross goes out, he will do ancient quaga followed by 10 consecutive Ascalon's Might, and ends the fight with an Ancient Quaga with a longer cast time.
Also as an alternative, we have the entire party stacked on the center for Knights 4 (phase 8) to bait heavensflare and to stack for mitigation heals/divine vile. This is on the assumption that the chains are functionally the same as The Vault's (breaks on distance traveled, not distance apart) and works fairly well for us. Prioritize on breaking the chains, move to the edge for storm (where the gaps inbetween mercy is also the widest) and dodge ascalaon's might. If more room is needed, players not marked by storm can bolt for the center (where the heavensflare AoE has already disappeared). It also avoids criss-crossing the comets and putting heavensflare in front of someone if everyone is at the same starting point.

as a healer, i was about to cry to listen to this guide... so much things are going on here
I did this one yesterday right after the MSQ.
We wiped... double digits, I died 2.5 times on average, healers res-ed me almost as often. Eventually got him down.
Wondering why in the MSQ our party one-shotted him and I didn't even come close to dying, but here our group was struggling terribly, I look up this guide and find out it's the extreme version....

I’m coming back to this since heavensward; this is going to be substantially different from all of the unreal trials that have been released thus far. A huge difficulty spike. Unreal trial players are definitely not ready especially coming out of sleeper zurvan lmao.
My main question is now that SE has put all their mechanics into one fight, what new mechanics will we see in Alex 2? Great guide btw MTQ

For new players in 2022: it's not as hard as it looks. Just avoid aoe like always, and stand with the rest of the party when they group up. Did this for my first time today. Was nervous but it was actually fairly easy and we burned him down in a couple minutes. You can do it!

small tip that u use as a WAR during the the two knight faze, pop zerk and bloodbath when he stance changes to sword oath. then unchained, then infuriate, then holmang and and converlesance during holy bladedance. one it hits IB and equilibrium. the healer will only need to cast one cure to top you straight back up along with your self healing and you can maintain a high dps. works for me and the healers appreciate the help as they are dealing with holiest of holy.

you don't actually have to avoid heavy impact while handling towers. My party usually eat that heavy impact while taking towers since that alone deals around 8k damage which can be healed through easily. Better to get stunned and take towers than to avoid it and miss it.
It's a really cool take on the Knights of the Round thing but after Months of constantly failing Practice Groups for Zurvan, I guess I won't be seeing that weird Fox before Dawntrail

If your group has a scholar, selene's aoe esuna can remove paralysis if a tower is missed.

I'm farming every other heavensward primal, but still haven't tried this, it seems too much scary even if i'm 235 now 😱
Three years later this is STILL as hard on min ilvl as current savage raids.
Back then it was much easier than A3S.
But 3.0 A3S was probably the hardest fight in the history of this game, maybe barring Ultimates.

i didnt feel like queueing for a group, who will probably vote abandon after 3 wipes anyways, so i decided to solo this...
first tried with DRK, but without the ability to heal (in any meaningful way), its not possible to get past the third phase. so i went with PLD. and good thing that i did, as i needed the perfect invincibility (Hallowed Ground) in phase 5 (died 3 times trying to figure what the hell am i supposed to do there. being stunned, having only half of my health and then death. or even if i do survive it, as on my first try, i was on very low health and was near-incapable of healing). no other tank would be able to survive that (all the other tanks would drop to 1 HP and thats not going to take you very far)
took me nearly an hour, but i did it
Beaten this 7 times now. It's probably the second best fight in the game (the best fight is A3 Savage IMO).

Hi there! i have some information about the knight that spawn at the last phase. You can actually low his hp (using lb, not necessary the lvl3) to a certain % that will not wipe the party, but the other knights casting massive areas will make hard to survive the slash. Most of the parties that have low gear will suffer this if they reach this point, so healers have to deal with it. The problem is that after the knights goes, after some cleaves, Zordon will cast the last ancient quaga as enrage, doing a 99990 hit to all the members.
Meteors DO NOT repeat in the sword/shield phase and there is a delay in holy bladedance on the third rotation

This is one of those fights where things become super trivial after a few successful runs. It's still a pretty cool fight though.

What is it with Final Fantasy XIV and inconsistent icons?
One icon might mean one thing in a fight but the same icon in another instance might do something completely different.
+Celestia Lewdenberg Because its not the exact same mechanic. For instance if one person dies to it the knight will wipe the raid, and the damage doesn't decrease quite as much per person in line + healing debuff.

next primal they might as well just give the boss 1 hp and he can only be hit after you play dance dance revolution for 2 hours...why even have damage abilities anymore

The stat requirements were BS beacause, to be quite frank, Blizz was bad at balancing but if you look at what you ACTUALLY did in those fights they were piss easy and that is not up for debate. Honestly, good luck to you if feel inclined to find a fight from back then that was genuinely difficult mechanics wise.
Master Troll Well how about the whole of the Sun Well? Or pretty much every hard mode final boss, or Mimiron? To belittle it would be absurd as there have been plenty of hard encounters, sure you could try mod the hell out of it to try make it easier but for pioneers it was tough.
Ross Munro You know what all of those raids have in common with every other wow raid ever? They can be out geared within their own content patch and have their mechanics cheesed. You can't do that at all in FFXIV to any note worthy degree. Whether you like it or not, we MUST do mechanics (which of course are far more complicated than all of those cute examples you gave) and SE makes it abundantly clear when people get absolutely shit on because they think "I'm geared, I can ignore this- wait, why am I dead, why are we wiping, why did I get kicked, why am I suddenly hated by everyone".
I will admit wow has its hard times if you're not the sharpest tool in the box or if your team just isn't all that geared or just retarded. However, the fact I was able to wing every single raid from Lich King all the way until WoD (normal, hard, mythic) and not fuck up the fights nearly as much as other people who "knew the fight" speaks volumes. I tried that same attitude in FFXIV and got shit on... in a levelling dungeon...

What's the minimum required gear level that requires you to leave a comet up? ilvl 200 surely can destroy them all if all DPS are paying attention. What about the old Ifrit Nail LB strat for the comets too? :p

My party keeps dying on the part with the holy chains and fan AOE shiva circles and meteors. We don't necessarily get hit by anything avoidable but people are dropping anyway, I'm healing the fight as a WHM do you have any tips to keep people from dropping?
