If there is enough torque to shear the shaft like that welds are not gonna work for long. The only way to fix this would be to preheat and do metal pour thermite weld in a mold around the damaged sections. 🤓

Dude this is sub par welding that will literally never hold , if the truck sheared the shaft like that theres 0 chance it will hold up now that its weaker especially since those welds did NOT bond those pieces back together, break a pencil in half then glue it together and see how much easier it is to break the second time

Yeah it’s resourceful and whatever but stick welding leads to crystallized metal. And for high strength steel like that it’s just been reverted to mild steel. If you use the driveshaft (which they will) it’s just gonna sheer off again possibly leading to the driveshaft becoming more of a pole vault depending on which way it’s facing. But clearly there’s no safety regulations there so have fun!

Валы ты походу ни разу не видел, коль говоришь, что они цельные, они как раз сварные, к трубе приварены хвостовики, да и составных карданов дохрена, на техже мтз 82 на вал отбора мошности разные карданы с легулировкой по длинне идут, другое дело хвостовик, он да точеный и метал правильно закаленый, а дальше к трубе приварен, ты думаешь он цельнометалический вал такого обьема один так спокойно несет?

For one, the part didn't appear to be properly indicated to spin true in the chuck. It was eye-balled with some needle thing and only checked in one place. Didn't see a dial indicator or a test indicator. So the shaft may spin untrue because the spline body isn't concentric with the remaining body. That weld has a good chance of failing under torque. And there's no telling what kind of steel is involved. That's an entirely different topic. Is the job impressive? Eh, from a hobby "look what I can do" standpoint, kind of. From a professional standpoint, nope. I had a drive shaft fail on me while driving 80mph down the interstate. Failed at the front Ujoint and ripped the yoke off from the differential. Wasn't pretty. Lucky I'm alive. So, pardon me for calling out bullshit work and safety concerns. Now, go get your wife's boyfriend some tea, Carroll.

For those who have an idea of what mechanical repair is all about this is really bad worksmamship. This is about sticking two pieces of metal together.
Because they don't have the availability. Sticks can be shipped by the thousands and any cheap buzz box will work. Mig welding requires more consumables. That's why you don't see them use a grinder. Guaranteed there is slag in that weld. It wouldn't pass for shit in any welding certification

Stick welding is much more structural than mig welding... tig welding would have been the best but most of these shops just have a few old car batteries as a welder so stick it is lol

Simple arc welding not going to last. The part broke away under incredible forces. Has to be original part to handle the situation.
