Darius is Naive. He goes to an an illicit raffle - not an auction - in a shady part of town and is not ready for anything. Problem 1. He wins. Pretty obvious everybody will be envious. Problem 2. Organised crime...probably should have expected that. Problem 3. His prize is a girl ...with, as it turns out, too much information. The Organised crime shows how unorganised it is by even getting this far and not fixing the outcome or stealing her away ...unless somebody somewhere deliberately fixed it so Darius would win. If so why?
Darius continues to be as much good as one man short while his "prize" runs the show. Somehow I dont think anything he has done justifies her staying with him.
The idea isnt bad but Darius should have some skill or ability which makes him useful. Its that co-incidence of winning and having a useful talent will give them both the raison d'etre to stick together to achieve something. Selara needs a better back story as to how she got where she was and the people who want her shouldnt be part of the auction/raffle in order that you dont have that "should have fixed the outcome" plot hole. The syndicate could still be pursuing her but only accidentally discover she's being sold - because they have an operative in the audience maybe also trying to win the prize without knowing it was her until its happened.

If I were Darius, I would have taken the girl and jumped to the nearest wormhole to the galaxy of New Eden and traded my old ship for a different one in some space station. Once I did that, I would make a series of jumps until I landed on a remote planet and seen what Selara and I can do.

To say that the story has holes is an understatement. Nothing makes sense and there is not even a love story.
