My grandma wrote this into her will as the music for her funeral procession, unbeknownst to the family lol, and when it started playing we all burst into laughter despite being wracked with grief. This rendition brings back a host of great memories. You, sir, are a terrific talent! Thank you for posting this :)
My uncle would play this on his piano for me as a kid and I would always demand an encore. You just brought me back to about 25 years ago. Great job!! 5 stars indeed!!
Heather my grandmother played this for me all the time too. Where I Live there is Restaurant that is a little upscale and I would always ask the piano player to play Alley Cat. He always did but he would wait until the customers had enough wine and after dinner drinks first. He never disappointed me.
Hi Allen Have always loved the tune Alley Cat, The way you play it is magic,Cant tear myself away from the computer, keep watching more of you playing these tunes, you know how to make me drool,
Thanks Allen! I have great memories of my grandmother playing this! She was both a church organist and also played piano & organ for movies, vaudeville and minstrel shows. Church was very reverent, but shed cut loose with some "stride" at shows. I can still hear her playing "American Patrol" ..in fact - there is a museum of automated music machines in Syracuse NY, and every time I go, I find the roll of American Patrol and play it on the player piano. Thanks again! Karen
Here's your fan from Ecuador, South America once more. I'll never stop telling you how great you are, and how much joy you have brought to my life. May the good Lord bless your. Take care, Jose
Allen - since I found you on youtube last night I can't hardly stay away. Guess you are bringing back great memories of a certain place in Louisville from my 20's. Moreso, I have and do love your playing. Thank God you survived life's trials and can bring us all this fine music!
a massively simplified version of this was one of the first things i ever learned to play - never heard how it was /supposed/ to sound until now! love it.
Congrats! You have the best piano style on TH-cam. I could listen to this 24/7. It's better than today's radio songs. This is true piano entertainment ♪☺. Two thumbs up♫.
Allen, every time I watch this video, I want to get up and dance. Unfortunately, a bad case of arthritis makes that impossible. This is the only line dance I could do without tripping over my own feet.
When I was 13 i used to take ice skating lessons and yhis was my very first solo on ice, I have always loved this song. Awesome job playing this great fun song. David
It's written by the danish jazz pianist and composer Bent Fabricius-Bjerre. It was written for a tv-show from 1963 called "Omkring et Flygel" which means "Around a Grand Piano" in danish.
We love this version! My family had this record as a kid. Your playing reminds me of that record- very much just like it if my memory recalls it right! And now, my 4 yr old daughter loves to tap dance to it. Thanks for all of your videos! You're very talented and I like that you enjoy sharing!
Oh, man! this takes me back to the summer days I'd spend at Idlewild, listening to the Wurlitzer Caliola. This has always been one of my favorites and I would request it everytime I went...

Hi, Joy. Nobody has heard from Allen directly. Do you know if he passed away? Watching his vids has given me much happiness in the past. I still have Allendale nights occasionally when I would rather watch his vids than watch TV or read.
Oh Boy! It is like I play C# and F3 them D and G, and from the tonic noye of F# it goes Bflat and C# on down the line in triplet form. best I can tell you. I just play 'em how I feel 'em.
Allen it's simply marvelous! I know you improvise, but did you read any books on improvisation that you could suggest for? Maybe just one book which helped you the most? Thanks! And keep the music coming.
I came here on an algorithm. After hearing your performance, I played the piano again for the first time in ten years. You are a genius 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
