At the end of the day, life is getting more financially difficult and using what we have wisely is good financial strategy. Well done for recognizing that it was not bringing you joy and happiness and that the pieces you have now and what you do to celebrate sits so much better and if you feel better about the choices, it's nothing but a win. Congratulations. I love minimalism, it's very mind clearing.😁👩‍💼

I’m the same- I have designer handbags but will usually buy pre loved and don’t buy designer clothes. There is nothing wrong with flexing your nice handbag (as I have a true passion for handbags) and not wearing anything else designer! Great tips 😊

I TOTALLY relate on Bicester Village - I focussed SO MUCH on the "saving" rather than the fact I was still spending more than I really wanted/needed to. It's yet another thing I've had to become aware of, in my journey to try and curb my luxury shopping.

Here's my story about influence through social media: We have a back yard. It's just a yard with lawn, a swing, a treehouse for the children, and several trees. I decided to make it prettier and started watching gardening videos on youtube to learn more about which plants I could add. The more I watched, the more I realized that my yard is just a yard, not a garden. So I found myself researching plants, visiting garden centers, searching for containers I like, and so on. I made a plan, laid out a schedule of what to plant when, and kept an eye on the cost. Now, I admit that my yard looks a lot better now, and I don't mind working on it a few hours a week. I enjoy the result. But to be honest, it is not a garden and I would never have taken our yard so seriously, if I hadn't started watching gardening videos on youtube. Now I say "it's enough" and only look up care and maintenance info. It's easy to get trapped into thinking you have to do (or buy) more and more.

Amen to that. I have invested into my garden to where I look at it as another room to enjoy. A patio, a foot path, birdhouses and statues make it stunning to me. I enjoy decorating it for every holiday...be it pumpkins now or Christmas decor in a week or two.

I recently cleaned out my wardrobe after moving into my apartment of one year. The entire process was so straining mentally as I cleared pieces of clothing I bought many years ago, hoarded and totally untouched (and completely outdated in style) . I then realized how much money I wasted by buying things I never used . It was a very regretful feeling to have as I bagged and boxed hundreds of pieces that were never enjoyed !
I love your videos and your way of living and thinking is so inspirational . Thank you and keep up the good work Eileen !

I so Appreciate your Honesty Eileen. It's so easy to fall for all the latest and the greatest, especially when it's constantly promoted on social media day in and day out as if it's normal. I sometimes think and wonder, what type of state social media has left many people. So many "MUST HAVES" are being shared....I COMPLETELY understand, a person works, they spend as they choose. But, it still doesn't erase the deception that's displayed on social media for a Click and a Like....One of the reasons it was Designed in the first place. Nothing like wearing a Walmart T-shirt, Thrift Store Jeans and 5 year old shoes with a Louis Vuitton Bag found at a Consignment Shop. I'm Still the same me & I'm happy. Don't let up Eileen!💯🧡

I do feel better after some retail therapy and I like to buy myself something nice for Christmas and birthdays. I have found that the best way to enjoy indulging in this is to always have handy a “retail therapy list” containing things I really will use and need. Clothes and shoes that have reached the end of their life and need replacing before the relevant season comes around is a good one as are skincare products I regularly use and will of course do so pretty soon. Household items that need replacing are also a good one. Luxury items are obviously not on it. They are too expensive to be anything except few and far between and very intentional. This way I get to indulge myself but be sensible at the same time.

I'm currently in a process of buying my own place and taking a big mortgage for it (as someone who never been in debt, it's a huge amount for me). the mortgage payments will probably be stretched for 20yrs but I'm determined to pay it out much sooner. so the next 10-15 years will be a huge challenge for me to spend as little as possible on unnecessary purchases. the goal is to spend money on mortgage payments and traveling and not "stuff" (god knows I have enough of these).
I hope some day to be in a position where minimalism comes as naturally for me as it is for you.

I've found that if I shop online for my clothes & accessories, I save alot in several ways! When I go on Trusted Sites, with purpose, looking for certain things at certain times with expectation of a Mark Down, then I'm much more successful & feel as if I have maintained control over my purchases, then when a SA was able to talk me into buying things simply bc "This Goes with That" or "It looks so good on you" "splurge a little Honey, You're worth it"! (Same reason I never shop with other women) Also the Fuel it takes to go around to various stores & possible parking fees, have also made online shopping more practical! I would spend hours shopping a few years ago, now I am much more practical & have time to do other things I like or just spend time with my husband walking or picnicking!
Thanks for all your Videos, I enjoy every one! 🥰🇺🇸

    Hi Eileen,
Another nice video from you. Everytime you have a new upload, I am excited to watch it right away.
It is very good to share with others that even though we carry designers’ handbags, we are aware of and affected by the inflation’s implications on our living.
The hike in interest rate is also affecting our cash flow and surplus every month. However, as my husband and I are frugal and our saving rate is quite high, we are alright with the current situation.
As a side note, I wanna share I recently read a book called “Stop Acting Rich”. It was written more than 10 years ago by the author of “The millionaire next door”.
The book addresses the issues of luxury clothing, luxury make of cars, and the hidden cost of living in a luxury neighbourhood. I recommend this book to all luxury lovers.

Lucky I don’t do outlet shopping. I seldom buy clothing but I have a weak spot for tech stuffs as a woman. 😅I have also sold many luxury bags and not only have 4 bags in my wardrobe.😊 I think it’s enough and the other bag I’m buying next will be a small bag as I needed a small sling but yet to find one that I love yet. Great sharing video Eileen.

Totally agree. I had the mentality of...I am going to buy stuff because I don't gwt a chance to shop. I am not as thrilled with high end brands anymore. Frankly, seeing Chanel and Hermes on the arms of almost every single reality TV star has turned me off of the brands. They are almost becoming common.
I am into uniqueness now. Hand made by someone local.
Also, I would now prefer to invest in me, meaning my health. Better foods, a personal trainer, stuff like that

    • @ColourfulNoir
      @ColourfulNoir  ปีที่แล้ว +2

I have made the outlets mistake in the past and I won’t do it again. I felt obligated to buy things because I made the long trip out there and it didn’t make sense to leave empty handed. It is better to save for a wishlist item rather than getting other things not on the wishlist and then still want the wish list item. I think it is so easy to succumb to the Diderot effect if one engages in social media in the luxury world. The only way to reduce temptation is to reduce the time spent in social media.

She has become a lot more conscious of the compulsive shopping and mindless consumerism. But she still has this need to buy overpriced name brands, when there are very nice high quality items for a fraction of the price. Most of what folks are paying for in these expensive name brands is the logo, and that is driven by status and insecurity.
