I disagree, in 2020 so many superstars with the exception of like justin bieber and ariana grande released albums. Adele, ed sheeran, beyonce, Drake, postponed their albums and era's. Folklore although is a lyrically good album, the female artist relevancy thing has been affecting her albums, for years now taylor has been releasing her albums with merchandise and tour bundles, with promotion and remixes or delas with discount retailers to get her sales hence she has never had highest selling album globally

-TikTok is ruining the music scene. Maybe this isn’t unpopular but it has to be said. These songs rely on a catchy line and hope people will use them and get viral. Boring.
-Kpop artists work too damn hard and deserve better treatment from their managers and labels.
-Normani needs to change her label. dropping one single and disappearing after it is doing a lot of damage to her longevity.
-Little Mix is one of the most underrated girl groups in history despite them being the most consistent in their performances and vocal abilities.
-Same people who cringed at one direction are now Harry styles sluts.
-Taylor is the best songwriter of our generation and NOTHING can change my mind. This woman has had a lot of success but is artistically underrated with her vision and creation ability.

i agree with literally all of these, especially the one about tiktok, harry styles, and taylor swift.
      - while i don't mind tiktok as a platform for skits and comedy and stuff like that, artists shouldn't have to be depending on it for their songs to chart or get successful.
      - yeah, i watched the blackpink documentary recently and it really made my heart break realizing that a lot of kpop artists like them are probably going through the same things.
      - yes. just yes. she has so much potential, but she isn't using it!!!
      - definitely. the lyrics of their songs aren't excellent, but they're still good, and their vocals are just out of this world.
      - exactly!! but that might have been because his singing and lyricism has really matured since one direction. still doens't change ths facts though, the people who hated on one direction are now stanning harry styles.
      - i stand with this one the most. people keep saying that she uses merch and stuff to promote herself, but there's a reason she got famous that stands out the most, and that is her songwriting ability!! the all too well 10 minute version just proves it, people aren't saying they cried listening to it for nothing. and folklore and evermore mainly focused on her lyricism, and i'm so happy about that, because it just proved to the haters that she didn't get famous for nothing.
glad to see someone that shares so many of my opinions!!

Maybe 1989 and reputation came out at "the right time" but Taylor Swift doesn't rely on trends. And in my opinion, 1989 specially still sounds really fresh for it to be considered just a "trend hopping album" since she was already becoming pop in Red, so it's not like the decision to go pop came out of nowhere, she was a country artist that took a risk that payed off.

She was doing a lot of business ventures outside of music and was developing personal relationships while continuing to heal. I actually think a massive break from fans is what she needed. She needs to drop of the face of planet earth to make people anticipate her next album. I think her also taking a break can also build artistry and do something new. Like she's taking this time to literally build businesses, improve her acting, etc, so I hope she's improving her writing and regaining creativity.

    Taylor: 👁👄👁
Lol but I semi-agree. I feel like as a super fan of certain artists, I’d like it. But for the more casual or just mainstream artists I listen to, I don’t need 23 songs from them if they tend to have skips for me anyway. And for certain people I actually want longer, like Blackpink’s the album😭

Taylor had a 2 hour long album and I have streamed it 25 times already since it came out but honestly though keeping Taylor aside, I don't understand why would you all want a shorter album from artists who release in a traditional way (once in two years) like what taylor did before folklore ..if I have waited for 2 years, I would want more songs..also its different when it comes to rerecordings, those are mostly for the fans than the locals otherwise she won't release a whole 10 minute version of a song

for me it's the deranged distorted music that is adding too much clutter to the system. Back in the day at least the record industry people would hear a song first to see if the quality before investing into a song release. The other problem is we all stream now instead of downloading so everytime we stream our eyes see more songs . I wonder in time how the trendy music of today will age. Aside from my rant Olivia, Billie, girl in red, Silk Sonic are some standouts of 2021

Nowadays it seems like you kind of don’t *need* a record label to even put out music. And that can be a good and bad thing. On one hand they’re good for funding your projects and distributing your music, but on the other hand they’re in it for the business, not necessarily the artist, so it’s easy for a record label to just say “we don’t want this song on your album, so it’s not gonna be on the album.” And that can also be detrimental. It’s a double edged sword, really.

  • @vicxiv

I really agree with Ash on the part where she said 2000’s/2010’s music was really the best years of music and she wasn’t kidding. I really miss songs like Teenage Dream and such on the radio since music back then just made you want to dance and forget about problems. And note the catchy choruses and earworms that will forever be stuck in your head. Now it’s just bland trap hip hop with house, I don’t know how to describe it but I hope we get an era of music that will be just like the 2000/2010’s decade.

“IM TIRED!!” Lmao same. The remixes, features and people putting 3+ people on a single song every other month is ridiculous. People just throwing out poor quality music out there for the sake of dropping music.
Music this year has been all of the place. The only person who has come close to bringing something different and refreshing, with versatility and longevity has been Doja Cat overall. Meaning songs, performances, album, music videos, her personality, etc. Agreed that she has that IT factor.
Unpopular opinion: Adele is so overhyped. Her song Easy on Me was good but people treated it like it was the greatest song released in years. Her older music was better and I don’t understand but she’s Adele

Well people are mainly focused on the hype than the actual song. This is her first hit song that she wrote by herself which is why it sounds like she is forcing the lyrics into the song and it sounds cringe in the bridge and her voice was all over the place. I still like her though. I feel like after this era which will definitely be successful, she faces the chance of flopping

The western industry has been lacking in solid music performers for YEARS. In my opinion one of the key factors in why K-Pop got so big here. They’re doing something fresh.

female artists are in general underrated and contantly pit against each other but they make so much better music

i've been LOVING this trend of making movies to go along with an album. Folklore, Happier Than Ever and If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power all felt like an experience and I want more of that! Just imagine if Miley did sumn like that for 'Plastic Hearts', I would DIE.

My hot take on music: Indie music is better than mainstream music. There is such an authenticity with indie artist that I feel like bigger artists lack. I think it’s because indie artist has more of a connection with their fans. Also, they put in so much work to their music. They write, they conceptualize, they produce their own stuff. Some deserve more credit for their work.

Can I just say that I just love you as a person for so many reasons. You are endlessly supportive, humble and kind. You have a way of seeing things that honestly I think many people don't usually see before you mention it and I think it's a big part of why we all like to keep coming here, for your perspective. You remind me of Taylor in that aspect, you're just yourself and it doesn't feel like we are a Fandom (eww, God no) but we are all friends who like the same things and kinda (I SAID KINDA!) think the same way.
I can't wait til one day that I hear you comment on my music when I step up to do it but til then, all the love Ash.

She probably meant like a fan of an artist not fan of their music.
Like you can like Taylor Swift's music but still not be a fan of her.
