    The toilet paper holder fell of the bathroom wall of my new apartment and this worked perfectly to fix it. Thanks so much!!

    One thing you probably should have mentioned is that toggle bolts are single-use items. If you ever unscrew those bolts they drop down into the wall and are lost forever.

      Was wondering if they can be removed. Thought the same

    • @joshl90
      @joshl90 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sure you could use a double hook of sorts in the hole to close the wings and save the toggle

    • @jlang8213
      @jlang8213 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They're so cheap it doesn't really matter. You can get them back when you remodel and tear out the walls.

      There are ways to keep the wings from dropping if needed such as putting silicon or something similar to hold it to the wall. use sewing thread or string attached to wings and extended back through the opening. I've never had an application were they were the best solution.

      Keep a decent magnet stuck to the side of the toolbox.
      If the material isnt to thick it should hold it in place through the wall

    Toggle bolts are always my go to. Whether it’s 1/8” or 3/16” or 1/4”.
    Plus an 1/8” toggle is a 6-32 screw which you can use when Switch and receptacle electrical boxes are recessed too far in the wall!

    Been using wing nuts for decades, only problems is when your wall too thick and/or there’s not enough space behind the wall or Sheetrock to push the wings in far enough without hitting something behind the wall to open the wings all the way. Once in a great while I’ll run into a place they just won’t work.

    pushing toggle through before putting the bracket in between, always a fun mistake.

  • @kenalpha3
    @kenalpha3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Ty. 2:48 Or use a Milwaukee "M12" fuel "gen 2" (has to be gen 2 or higher) - which has a toggle button to change to Mode 1 = it screws in slower for more control. (It also has 2, 3, and drill mode when you need normal power.)
    And use a plastic car trim shim that is angled, or grab onto the metal frame with thin plyers. This saves your fingers when the gap gets tight.

    Instead of a toggle bolt, I prefer the sheet metal wings that pull themselves tight against the back of the wall. That way if you mess up and remove the bracket, you don't lose the toggle and have to go buy a new one. Like the next time your spouse or partner is painting and didn't need to remove the bracket, but did anyway...

    • @3moirai
      @3moirai 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is a sheet metal wing? I did a quick Google search but the results were ambiguous.

    • @Sylvan_dB
      @Sylvan_dB 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@3moirai A hollow wall anchor made of metal. Sometimes called a molly bolt (on wikipedia but I've not heard that term in my area).
      They look like a bolt with a sheet metal sleeve around it. The sleeve is threaded on the far end and has a head under the bolt head, with little spikes to dig into the outside face of the drywall. Push the sleeve thru the hole. As you tighten the bolt the far end threads pull closer and force out the sides of the sleeve which expand like 4 little wings behind the drywall and pinch the drywall between the wings and the head of the sleeve. The bolt can be removed and reinstalled.
      Kind of like a rivet nut, but for drywall.
      I've seen similar made of plastic but haven't had as good a results with them.

    • @3moirai
      @3moirai 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Sylvan_dB thanks for the description - I was able to find pictures and know what kind of hardware you referring to. I'll have to check them out at the hardware store.

  • @someperson7
    @someperson7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I haven't tried this, but I suspect you couldn cut the anchors down to the depth of the drywall and flush them up almost all the way up the bolt against the bracket. Then put on the toggle and tighten. Then your bolts will have less play in the holes. Might make your solution last longer.
    I could be wrong about that. It might just be better to use bushings. Or, you know, just let good be good enough.

    Grab the mounts that basically ziptie a insert to the back of the drywall so you can unscrew the bolt and it'll stay still.

  • @Crazy-Hick-in-NH
    @Crazy-Hick-in-NH 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For really HEAVY stuff, use a drywall toggle anchor (best of both worlds)...and you won't lose the spinny thingy you want to remove it (do-over, permanent, etc.).

    Will this work where the drywall is against brick 🧱? As I’m not sure the springs would have the chance to expand ; as there may not be a gap between drywall & brick? If someone could clarify, it’d be appreciated.
