i went to an animation convention a few years back & they had a TOEI Animation representative there. I asked them about Fighting Road & they mentioned that TOEI was back in the day was planning to make a straight to video movie to tie in with the game. They released the game first to get hype for the film but due to the Japanese economic bubble bursting in 1989 the executives cancelled the film as due barely any work had been made on the film it would've cost too much to complete.

You were probably thinking of the classic turbo grafx game Fighting Street, which was inspired by this game.

If there was a Dragon Punch, you'd probably have to do a quadruple front flip and scream into the mic on the second controller while standing on your head to execute it

Opponents are not repeated, you can see they're different colour of skin and in the manual it lists every opponent too.

The movie The Road Warrior was inspired by this, right?

This game is a total ripoff of Road Fighter but with fewer cars

I think I came across this one randomly looking up famicom stuff? seemed neat from the video. ... man I know there was Capcom vs. Data East but *how* in the world did capcom not go after toei for this clearly blatant ripoff of Street Fighter 1?! I mean even the specials seem about as hard to do as in SF1.

Almost every game back then was ripping off another game, whether it was Pong, Breakout, Space Invaders, etc. Even on the Famicom, how many straight Dragon Quest clones were there?

@@sjake8308 oh trust me I'm almost done finishing the backlog of this series so I've seen damn near every DQ clone that the famicom got! was just surprising how similar this one was to SF1, at least according to his review.
