Check out this spotify podcast 'switched on pop' - summer hits episode on butter - where they also speak to one of our fandom translators and she gives a very brief but good breakdown of 3 songs - baepsae, dope and dis-ease
This translation is made so that without knowing the context you can understand what they are trying to say, but in reality they use many metaphors that normally as foreigners we wouldn't understand, you can see an explanation video from DDKTV to understand what I mean ^-^ I really enjoy your videos. Have a good day, guys. 💜
Yeah this one has tons of references! One of my faves is how Korean adults/society complain that "kids these days don't put in enough effort" and how millenials adopted the meme "an effort is not enough, we must put in eeeeeeefort" and that was included in how they sing this song. There's more explanations on this translation blog: doolsetbangtan.wordpress.com/2018/08/02/baepsae-silver-spoon/
Also for others- the song is based on a Korean parable about parrotbills vs. storks hence the bird dances- saying you should tailoring your ambitions to your ability/station in life, it was translated as tryhard / golden spoon.
yeah.. it's a lot pressure in Asia.. in our country, it's like a tradition or habit to give back to your parents when you started working, like you give them money, build house, help your siblings to pay for school, etc. and to think that the salary that you've received can't even support you for a couple of weeks, and you have to save some for your future... there's a meme here when a baby was born, a parent would say "this child will save us from poverty" but we chose not to complain cause our parents also worked hard for us to graduate, to give us better education.. and that's when Spine Breaker enters the chat
Yes, Spine breaker and Go Go are examples of other songs with amazing messages but with fun or comedic deliveries. DKDKTV explanations are needed for all of these to truly appreciate the masterpieces that they are. 🐦 (couldn't get the grey bird)
Yes Korean names also place what we think of as the last name first. So with BTS their names are Kim Namjoon (RM), Kim Seokjin (Jin), Min Yoongi (Suga), Jung Hoseok (j-hope), Park Jimin (Jimin), Kim Taehyung (V), and Jeon Jungkook (Jungkook) and Kim, Kim, Min, Jung, Park, Kim, and Jeon are their last names (it's kind of weird how many people get confused with that cause how likely do they think it is that three men with the first name Kim ended up in one group.) You mentioned it but yeah I absolutely love Suga's line that goes "They say 'It's fine as long as you're on the same field.'" it's such a brilliant reference to the concept of equality vs. equity and how it's not enough to treat people the same if the disadvantaged aren't given what they need to actually be equal to the privileged. I think you would love Suga's song Strange ft. RM, its just a brilliantly written critique of capitalism and at least in my mind it feels somewhat in the same vein or spirit of the messages of this song
@@ZiahTV everyone was just telling you to react to that explained video so i will just leave a comment saying, since you loved how the dance moves fitted the lyrics, Jhope actually made this choreography!🙏 theyre just having fun!😂
This song perfectly expresses how frustrating it is for young people to be told by old people that they're lazy and need to work harder so they can live just as well as they did. But it's not possible because in the 50's 60's and 70's , a man making minimum wage could buy a house and support a family and go on one vacation a year. Nowadays, minimum wage doesn't even get you a whole apartment. You have to live in a terrible place with a bunch of roommates. And college isn't the answer because back then college was cheap. Now, a four year degree gets you barely above minimum wage and a crippling amount of debt. Young people today have nearly no hope of living decent lives.
I do believe that forcing a college education on someone is not the answer. Nowadays a college education is just not enough. It is like a high school diploma in the earlier years. Too many employers feel an individual needs a college education to succeed. This is just not true, but it is the reality right now (and that needs to change). BUT, working hard is something that you, as an individual needs to be proud of, regardless of the monetary outcome. I feel that is a problem right now....too many feel that if they work hard they should make lots of money. Maybe you should speak to some of the blue collar workers of the 50's, 60's and 70's that worked their asses off to support their family. I'm sure they didn't feel they lived extravagantly, but lived well and took pride in providing for their families. Just my opinion of course. The college education 30 years ago meant more money. A college education now, unfortunately, does not. The education system and requirements for employment need a big overhaul. It does not take a college education to make a good employee.
This song is about classism and privilege amd how society is built to keep the lower/working class people there, society dont let them rise, no matter how hard they work, they can never truly touch the people who are up high. But they still fight everyday to survive amd they will keep fighting.
I love the way you guys get deep into the meaning of their songs, that's BTS' music about... deep, meaningful content, you're perfect for this kind of music. All their dance practices are amazing. 💜
Really nice reaction! You guys were on point! And Suga's twerk was a bet that he lost before the dance practice begins... this song live is amazing, they go even harder! 🐦
I think Dkdktv and xceleste is the most popular utuber among bts army lol (even in bts concert people recognize them).. i see their name left and right… but i agree dkdktv has the best explanation since they understand korean … i think this song is relatable to this generation lol
The first time I heard this song I listened to it for several days trying to learn the choreography without really diving into the lyrics. I thought it was just a fun song and they’re having fun until I watched the explanation by dkdktv. Thank you both for great reaction.
Just want to say that I admire that you guys really take the time to understand the meaning behind the songs. There are many cultural references to songs like this but I appreciate that you're able to capture how the song can relate to different cultures too. Keep it up! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
One thing this Eng Sub video left out was the hilarious pre-practice game of rock-paper-scissors.... The loser would be the one to do J-Hope's freestyle dance break towards the end In the very first round of the game the entire dance-line at the time (J-Hope, Jimin, JK) won and were out of consideration. You can see the concern on the faces of some of the members left....Then Suga ultimately loses and falls to his knees yelling in frustration while V gleefully dances around him Suga was a good sport as usual and gave us some terrific moves and hilarious twerking. You can hear the other members starting to pump him up and yell in anticipation in the moments building up to the dance-break section
I feel this song so much on a personal level. I've been working the same company for 11 years and trust me I thought I'd be way up there by now but I'm not and it became a dead-end job where I barely make ends meet. I finally got my own place and I'm moving in next month but now I need to scramble to pay the high cost of living and find a new job. It's so hard especially at my age 28 and still in university. The one thing I can say is BTS really pushed me to go back to school when I was 23. Especially Suga with his song So Far Away where he says, "though your beginnings may be humble, let your end be prosperous". I keep those lyrics with me no matter what I do in life to achieve my dreams no matter who tries to put me down. This song describes the generation in Korea who gave up on everything (n-posedae) dating, marriage, giving birth, employment, buying a house, human relationships and hope.
I like how you said that this dance "Isn't all sexy like usual" when ARMY both fears and loves when this song comes up during their concerts I quote a certain ARMY youtuber got a front row concert ticket because "I need baepsae in my face" lol
Because of this, i subscribed to your channel..now im convinced you are genuinely interested to their music😊 coz not all reactors checked out this song of BTS 😂
🐦 If you like this song and the message, I think you will enjoy 'Spine Breaker' too. That one have MV that BTS members directed and filmed by themselves as the challenge while they are touring. If you check that song, please watch the lyrics explained by DKDKTV.
I think you will enjoy watching their performance videos of this song or even a concert medley performance.Because although the song has a deep meaning the performances are just pure fun. 🐦
It's far from being a joke to them, especially Suga who was nearly killed by being run over by a car when he was working under the table as a delivery guy. He couldn't afford to pay his trainee tuition and buy food too. His shoulder was dislocated and he was afraid to even tell the company until he literally couldn't move and they found out. When he ggot out of the hospital Big Hit offered him a scholarship. He'd expected them to drop him.
🐦 Loved the reaction! Always great points and insides, which makes it such a joy to watch. I think you'd love Spine Breaker. It's a less known song, but such a gem with a great meaning. It's once again BTS making a song that could potentially lose them listeners and yet still getting the message out - which just made me (and probably everyone else) respect them even more. They made an homemade mv in a hotel for a few hours during their world tour as part of an Run BTS episode, and it's HILARIOUS! I think you'd love it!
This was a good reaction. I have to point out that I am a baby boomer. I worked my ass off in public service. So did my husband. We are now receiving the benefits. Our son is a firefighter. Ex Marine sniper. Our daughter & son-in-law are both gainfully employed. All is not bleak for this generation.
🐦🐥(didnt have the right emoji but watched to the end) As always - loved how you "Got it".... reactions like this are why we like you two so much.... Borahae💜
This is why we call BTS the Voice of our Generation. I don't say that glibly, because this song - and their other songs about social injustices - really sum up how the younger generation feels.
They refer to the younger generation as crow ti ts with short legs that can't catch up/ reach up on the older generation the storks with long legs. That also portraits that it was different times for the older generation with economic growth that it was a lot easier for them to get somewhere in life and achieve the house and a good life with good economy and that they think that apply on the younger generation now too even though it isn't possible anymore and has got so much harder. The refering to the birds shows in the dance.
You guys literally explained the whole song. I watched a Korean explained version before and it's not word to word but you guys said the same thing as in the explanation video.
As an early millenial (1981) who grew up working and learning under boomers, I see the advantages and disadvantages each gen went thru. Though the boomers had the benefit of a growing economy, the millenials had the advantage of technology. This channel is a perfect example - many millenials are earning serious money in YT, IG, tiktok, online services/busineeses, etc, something that was not available to boomers during their time
🐦 this was the only similar bird emoji I could find....🤷♀️ One thing, probably more here in the west than the east is that there are many of the older generation that can see how hard it is. They're the one who help with no expectations back, usually family. Like my sister, she know her two boys will be living with her for a while and she accommodates her life for that and they can do want they're passionate about in life. Unfortunately all that type economic growth thinking was infused in government policies or laws or legislation. The system needs a huge overhaul if it wants to keep up with the times, as it is its already 20 years behind. I ran through the system for years, and I finally said f*** that. I'm back in school and doing my passion of interior design. Finally! And it's so much more fulfilling. Which by the way, I'm doing a project now with traditional Japanese design. So you guys do you, and continue your dreams 💜 You caught on to the meaning very easily, so the explanation vid is not really needed, except for the odd cultural terms. If you want to check another kpop singer, I would recommend Jesse. She was born in America, grew up in Queens, and has been in Korea since she was 15 I think. Anyway, she has a similar attitude to Nicki that you may really like her. She literally has no f**ks to give. And she's really funny. All the best! 😁💜
The "give up on 3? Give up on 5" thing you mentioned is actually referenced in this song too but it's in korean wordplay There are plenty of wordplays in the song actually, the most important thing is the comparison of the legs thing- they are saying our generation is Basically baepsae(crow tits) they are very small birds with short legs the ones you saw from Comments and older generation are storks who have longer legs, they are saying it's not fair to us who do not have all the privilege older generation had and make us catch up to them, this is my favourite song from them ever 🐦 bird emoji for BTS and you guys lol
Okay so you guys hit it on the head and got the full meaning wow! Your reactions are so great! I had to watch the explanation video to understand all the desperate meanings but you got it whilst analysing the lyrics including the "crow tits" as well as the generations who give up dating, marriage, kids, etc!
Please react to spine break next. It correlate to this song. Baepsae talks about how hard life is for the young generation while. Spine breaker talks about how life for parents are. I’m not good at explain lol😅. Spine break by kpop anime and if you wanna react to the making of it by maknae line.( they made the mv themselves they were given a limited amount of time to make it)
Spine Breaker isn't a song about the parents, though. It's a criticism of young people who use their parents' money to look trendy, but really, they're breaking their parents' back to pretend to be wealthy when they're not. It's scolding the young people who do that.
@@Honey-je4pr I’m sorry I’m not good at explaining lol. Spine breaker is basically the opposite of baepsae that what I’m trying to say. Thank you so much for your explanation
🐦 hi hope things are good in your side. This song is Amazing it has so many meanings. And you guys sure did an Awesome job on explainting your own thoughts to it. I really Love watching you guys talk about BTS song/lyrics. You guys do the Great.. I'm a day late in ur reactions, but I got to your mv. Thanks Guys!!
Another great reaction! I LOVE Bapsae and it’s messages in the song you guys always manage to interpret it so well. It’s a shame Bangtantv only started to include english subs not long ago, since Bapsae was released 5 years ago when BTS were less internationally known, Bighit didn’t bother with other language sub titles otherwise it would have been perfect to use their version video because it had the intro part (which you can still go back to watch if you like it’s funny!) where the boys were playing Rock Paper Scissors and Suga lost so he had to do that solo twerking bit near the end that’s why the other guys were laughing at him 😂
You missed the rock, paper scissors at the beginning, which Suga lost (hence his twerky dance). Anyway, love this song - it’s basically “OK Boomer” to music. Great reaction as ever. Thank you! 🐦
"What you look like".... reminded me of what I've seen in many Kdramas. When applying for a job, your resume must have your photo attached. lmagine being judged based on your looks. Probably why they have one of, if not the highest, cosmetic surgery rates in the world. Also, the education stress...classes attended til very late at night....the expectation to get into the best colleges, the best companies....thus, one of the highest, if not the highest, suicide rates in the world. This is one of BTS's most political songs and with many Korean references, it's helpful to follow such videos with the explanation video on DKDKTV. On a side, I often wonder how difficult it must have been for NamJoon's (RM) parents to see him go into rapping and entertainment when he has an IQ of 148, genius. I'm sure it was hard then, but I'll bet they are proud now...successful and doing what he loves. Thanks, ARMY grandma
Yes, last name first in Korea. And Japan, China, Viêtnam..Three of them have Kim as last name. It's the most common name (about 20% of the korean population) , like Smith or Johnson in the US. But there are diferent lineages or clans. So it's not one big and happy family !
Word. This is one of my favorite songs. 💜I love that you guys always get it, even if the translation is off a little bit (or not what I am used to and I think it loses something). Baepsae/ crow tit ( a teeny bird with little legs) is called try hard and the stork is called silver spoon. The dance is so bird like and the movement of the legs has meaning. I think if it says crow tit then RM’ s flapping makes more sense and it makes the extended leg move more powerful. You always get there in the end. 😂😘I agree with the others that you should check out the explanation video.🐦🐦🐦
This is the song that made me an Army, even though we are so far again the idea of "meritocracy" it's something that is present in all of the world in more o less capacity. And that's why we love them, the talk about the struggles of our generation and don't shy away from it.
Lol lol, love, and I really enjoyed it. It shows the other of having fun and still shows off their incredible dance moves. I watched this video at least 7 times
Another great reaction! Yes, the bapsae are birds with very short legs, and this imaginery is a constant in the song. Btw, by no means I want to tell you how to use your Patreon, but I have seen TH-camrs having your same issue, and putting specific reaction on Patreon for free (if you want to make it accessible to everybody).
Something gets a tiny bit lost in translation here, and it's really only the nuance, since you got pretty much all of it). The song is titled Baepsae, which is the Korean word for the crow-tit (a very smol, very adorable fluffy bird that is one of RM's favorites) and is inspired by the Korean proverb
I won’t ask you two to react to the explanation video. The both of you have stated in the past videos, you prefer to watch explanations on your own time and not react. I respect that. Also I am Taiwanese and our last name is first. Also I saw Ziah’s post on TV’s family. (I know his name isn’t TV. It’s just fun saying that because it was mentioned once) Sending them positive vibes.
Wow. I love Baepsae. I never once looked at the lyrics. I didn't realize it was so deep because it just seemed like a fun song. I realized that even songs I grew up with (in the 90s) that I would rock out to, had really deep lyrics and when I hear them now I'm like, 'Wait, what did they say?!" 😂
Was waiting for your new reaction video and here it is as always it’s great to see you breaking down the lyrics💜 Also i hope you listen to their song ‘Blue & grey’ by bts this song id sad but has helped me heal in many ways 😊😅
Yes!! Please!! This song is amazing!! I highly recommend watching their performance on TvUnplugged. (For copyright reasons pause a few times)(turn on cc)
We understand you allright! I really hope you’ll succeed. 🐦 Loved this! Thank you!!!! You should see a live version, talking about trolling dance moves 😂
🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦 Thanks for new reaction It is a great time to watch ur reaction after work😭 born singer😭 This one is good!! but it is too fast to say is ur fav lol But “one of” is fine lolllll Every time listen to a new bts song, ppl would say “this might be my fav” 🐦🐧🐤🐦🐧🐤🐦🐧🐤
I missed you guys in the last couple days.. thanks for your reaction.. everyone is telling you to react to the explanation vedio but for me i think you did a great job breaking the vedio down, and i want to suggest you to react to a live performance on the stage .. this song has it's own charisma.. it's amazing .. thanks again 🐦
I really like your reaction! 🐦 You guys are really amazing to watch. There's also another BTS's song Spine Breaker that is connected to Silver Spoon. BTS did the MV themselves 😂 they only have like half a hour to do it I think. It's really fun to watch and it has a great message too. You're one of my favorite everyday content! Love you🐦 🐦

YES YES YES to this comment
I think BTS was surprised that their music that talked about Korean reality resonated with America and everywhere else.
Their funny dance still looks so intricate
If you can plz watch the explanation video. This song is very deep. 💜

Borahae💜
Wahhh.. Tq... Luv your reaction.. Tqq.. 😍😍😍So.. More dance practices after this.. 🤭
Can u react to BTS Spine Breaker too. They directed the mv and create the dance themselves. Its sooooo funny but the message is as important.
Baepsae live you need to watch it😊😊
This is why we call BTS the Voice of our Generation. I don't say that glibly, because this song - and their other songs about social injustices - really sum up how the younger generation feels.
You guys are on point!
This is one of my fave...
There is an explanation for you to understand this song. Baepsae explain by a Korean and UGH explain by a Korean. You guys will love them
They were talking about "passion pay" it basically means that u have to work for free Just to be able to get some experience at jobs
Next one should be Spine Breaker ;)
They refer to the younger generation as crow ti ts with short legs that can't catch up/ reach up on the older generation the storks with long legs. That also portraits that it was different times for the older generation with economic growth that it was a lot easier for them to get somewhere in life and achieve the house and a good life with good economy and that they think that apply on the younger generation now too even though it isn't possible anymore and has got so much harder. The refering to the birds shows in the dance.
You have to watch they're dance pracitse, it's so funny and they're so good at dancing
Yes, in Korea their last names come first. Like RM his real name is Kim Namjoon. Last name is Kim.
This channel is a perfect example - many millenials are earning serious money in YT, IG, tiktok, online services/busineeses, etc, something that was not available to boomers during their time
🐦 this was the only similar bird emoji I could find....🤷♀️
One thing, probably more here in the west than the east is that there are many of the older generation that can see how hard it is.
So you guys do you, and continue your dreams 💜
You caught on to the meaning very easily, so the explanation vid is not really needed, except for the odd cultural terms.
Crow tit is baepsae, Storks are the silver spoons
The "give up on 3? Give up on 5" thing you mentioned is actually referenced in this song too but it's in korean wordplay
There are plenty of wordplays in the song actually, the most important thing is the comparison of the legs thing- they are saying our generation is Basically baepsae(crow tits) they are very small birds with short legs the ones you saw from Comments and older generation are storks who have longer legs, they are saying it's not fair to us who do not have all the privilege older generation had and make us catch up to them, this is my favourite song from them ever 🐦 bird emoji for BTS and you guys lol
Okay so you guys hit it on the head and got the full meaning wow! Your reactions are so great! I had to watch the explanation video to understand all the desperate meanings but you got it whilst analysing the lyrics including the "crow tits" as well as the generations who give up dating, marriage, kids, etc!
Now you guys might like BTS ‘Spine Breaker’…luv your reaction…the way ur talk interesting 💜U . You guys nice, keep going😉✌️
Amazing reaction guys 🐦
Explanation video by DKDKTV of this song will open your eyes to a whole other world
One of there early songs NO is about the harsh school system. It has a mv it’s really good
*That akatsuki cap is 🔥*
Thanks!
Also please do a reaction next to BTS Spinebreaker MV and then the explanation of the song by DKDKTV.. I'm sure you'll love it 🙏🙏🙏
Please react to spine break next. It correlate to this song. Baepsae talks about how hard life is for the young generation while. Spine breaker talks about how life for parents are. I’m not good at explain lol😅.
Spine break by kpop anime and if you wanna react to the making of it by maknae line.( they made the mv themselves they were given a limited amount of time to make it)
ooo yeaahh spine break!!!! please do
Yeaa spine breaker is my favorite 💜💜
Funfact.. the hiptrust in the choreo signifies a big middle finger xD
Yes, that originated with American rappers and BTS brought it back!
I love that thus video also convey a message that their telling, and its so true. And it's all across the world. Wow cuddos to BTS
So this channel clearly a BTS channel now 😂😂😂, i cant deal 😂😂
Another great reaction! I LOVE Bapsae and it’s messages in the song you guys always manage to interpret it so well. It’s a shame Bangtantv only started to include english subs not long ago, since Bapsae was released 5 years ago when BTS were less internationally known, Bighit didn’t bother with other language sub titles otherwise it would have been perfect to use their version video because it had the intro part (which you can still go back to watch if you like it’s funny!) where the boys were playing Rock Paper Scissors and Suga lost so he had to do that solo twerking bit near the end that’s why the other guys were laughing at him 😂
Yaay, thanks for this guys! 💜 You should also react to BTS' Tiny Desk Home Concert 🎶
Yes Baepsae!! Can’t wait for you to react or watch the explanation video.
@@ZiahTV really love your interpretations and thoughts. Made me learn a thing or two too! Educational 🙂 thank you! 🐦
There is a song called "Am i worg" similar to Babsae. Please react to the lyrics of this song, too.
Hi guys what you missed before they started dancing was the rock paper scissors where Suga lost and thats why he had to twerk at the end
Did u see who is bts before!! I guess u should it's a great Video to know them more. "who is bts the seven members of bangtan".
i think the updated version is a lot better, its the one by ida s if you haven't seen yet
Love it when you discuss your thoughts on each songs.
This is one of my favorite BTS songs, so I'm very happy you reacted to it!! Your reactions are just great!
Was waiting for your new reaction video and here it is as always it’s great to see you breaking down the lyrics💜
Also i hope you listen to their song ‘Blue & grey’ by bts this song id sad but has helped me heal in many ways 😊😅
Yes!! Please!! This song is amazing!! I highly recommend watching their performance on TvUnplugged. (For copyright reasons pause a few times)(turn on cc)
You guys are on point! This is one of my favorite dance practices as well! Glad you enjoyed it!
We understand you allright! I really hope you’ll succeed. 🐦
Loved this! Thank you!!!!
You should see a live version, talking about trolling dance moves 😂
🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦

🐦🐧🐤🐦🐧🐤🐦🐧🐤
I missed you guys in the last couple days.. thanks for your reaction.. everyone is telling you to react to the explanation vedio but for me i think you did a great job breaking the vedio down, and i want to suggest you to react to a live performance on the stage .. this song has it's own charisma.. it's amazing .. thanks again 🐦
I always told my girls, follow your own path and dreams .
If they are happy I am happy.Love you guys💜.Greetz from the Netherlands
Keep doing what you're doing .love it!!!🐦🐦🐦
I really like your reaction! Love you🐦 🐦
