This was an awesome set. Both players really showed what Ness and Ridley can do. And the commentators were phenomenal; staying engaged with fun dialogue and quips, and giving strategic and thoughtful commentary on each character and player.

It was best of 5 though. They played 5 games. Not sure why it says best of 3 in the top it doesn't make any sense. In playoff format best of 5 is 3 wins and best of 3 is two wins. Ness would have taken the win

You need to time it and predict that the opponent will roll back. Also if there's time to roll there's time to shield so spamming predictably would not lead to any strong punish, he had to catch the roll away both times and capitalize.
I really wouldnt have thought ness stood a chance considering his floaty nature and the high damage nair of Ridley. That was an awesome come back. Good for you

Yeah a lot of this stuff is really great. l feel like Trela could've definitely tried to go offstage more but still fun to watch. l hope that Comona had no troubles too, if most tournaments are as obnoxious as YT comments
What surprised me (no disresp to Trela at all) is how long he took to adapt and figure out Ness would be the counter or bait n wait game. It's just how i play vs the fast, light annoying spam/juggle characters. Ness is super-light, so that's the 1 huge weakness; all Ridley had to do all along is space )maybe toss a few of those flamethrowers) and slam hard with the pirate slam and other hard smashes. maybe he jsut didn't expect this Ness to be so good
I think Trela is really not that comfortable with Ridley yet, he never went off stage to gimp Ness, even tho Ness is ultra gimpable and Ridley has an extra jump and good recovery. This would have been a much shorter match if Trela took advantage of Awestin being off stage. Ridley can kinda gimp anybody really, his nair is so big you can cover every single recovery angle from most chars, and even if you trade with it, you get launched toward the stage, and if worst come to worst you just tech and recover. Rinse and repeat, Ridley is a monster against linear/simple recoveries. Rn Trela is using him at like 60% of his potential because of that imho.
Pranker 17 He’s still a high tier character. Plus as the game goes on he’ll probably develop and go up on the tier list because of the nature of the character.

Oh my gosh, Ness is SO ANNOYING. Seriously, that PK Thunder off stage you can't do ANYTHING about, especially as Ridley. I think you can hit the thunder with an attack and it'll disappear, but that's easier said than done.

It amazes me how much people complain about Ness but it actually takes skill and timing to play as him especially when it comes to his recovery window but then again not everyone can understand the pressure of actually winning with him when you're recovery isn't 100% guaranteed a specific direction all it takes is the slip of the finger

This overlay REALLY needs to become the standard, its always hard to tell who's who when lesser known players have different ingame names from their actual tag.

Awestin is in Losers, which means to win he has to reset the bracket first in the Bo3. After the reset, you have the "normal" match which is another Bo3. If you pay attention to the top left corner, it says "Grand Finals", and then "Grand Finals 2". What's really weird, is that they are playing Bo3 instead of Bo5, i've never seen a Bo3 GF
First he plays with his new smash ultimate Ness, then he switches back to his old habits and starts changing whatever Trela is adapting to to switch it up. And he's using AL of Ness' tools to switch it up with.

Home come Ridley is never chasing Ness off stage...? It seemed like he let him get a lot of free recoveries. (With the exception of trying to 2 frame him a few times and the occasional plasma).
I don't understand this comment salt lol. Ridley has a suicide that kills the opponent first, as well as multiple jumps and an insane Nair, plus playing the long range grind against heavies has always been the safest and most consistent approach against that archetype anyway. They're in a tournament, and sometimes the optimal strategy isn't going to be the most complex or entertaining. Awestin's juggles and spacing were pretty stellar, but all anyone seems to care about is how many times he pressed B, lol...
Ridley's side b actually kills him first unless you cancel it, and even then the only guaranteed kill is on a walk off. In the air the opponent still get launched upward so if they have good recovery they can still get back. His nair is insane though. It's my favorite move of his along with his down tilt. They're so good.

Nah, Trela figured it out eventually. His aerials, particularly n-air, could clash with PK Thunder's head to stop it.

Can someone explain to me how tournaments work ? I'm new to this, and from what I hear, the Ridley player won the whole thing, but he only had 2 victories out of 5 games. How does it work ?
Home come Ridley is never chasing Ness off stage...? It seemed like he let him get a lot of free recoveries.
(With the exception of trying to 2 frame him a few times and the occasional plasma).

I don't understand this comment salt lol. Ridley has a suicide that kills the opponent first, as well as multiple jumps and an insane Nair, plus playing the long range grind against heavies has always been the safest and most consistent approach against that archetype anyway. They're in a tournament, and sometimes the optimal strategy isn't going to be the most complex or entertaining. Awestin's juggles and spacing were pretty stellar, but all anyone seems to care about is how many times he pressed B, lol...
Ridley's side b actually kills him first unless you cancel it, and even then the only guaranteed kill is on a walk off. In the air the opponent still get launched upward so if they have good recovery they can still get back. His nair is insane though. It's my favorite move of his along with his down tilt. They're so good.
