  • I’m back in the shop with a restoration of this rusty old anvil from my great-grandpa! I’m knocking the rust off, re-fabricating the anvil stand, redressing the face, and doing a few other things to get this thing back into good working condition!
This is my first video in a little bit, but I’m excited to put out a few videos I’ve filmed in the next few weeks!
    Happy forging everyone!

So happy to see a new video! I’m about to be getting into the hobby thanks to you! Just ordered my Mr Volcano. What’s your opinion on cheap anvils? I want the $150 Harbor Freight 65lbs Doyle one but my local store doesn’t have one. Do you think a cheaper cast iron one would be fine while I’m just getting started? Love the content!

I have a video review on the anvil review that I got for about $120 off Amazon that’s been great for me, here’s the link: th-cam.com/video/kbn5pEBwg9Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2haifJEGWJC-nJ88
That being said, I started on a cheap $30 anvil from harbor freight! A cast iron one works, but the durability just isn’t that good. I have a video coming out next week actually and the topic is going to be a basic recap of anvils, and what to look for when shopping for one as well! Looking at other channels reviews on anvils that you’re interested in is a great way to figure things out as well

@@ToddKoch I don’t mean to overwhelm you with broad questions. But I just ordered my forge, anvil, and belt sander that you recommended. I don’t really know anything about what grit belts I would need. Which belts/grit would you recommend I buy right off the bat to get started? I’m mainly wanting to make knives and my own tools like in your tutorials.

@tiipsyx5556 the grits I like to use are 24 grit for heavy grinding/stock removal, 60 and 120 for regular grinding and shape up, and then a 220 for sharpening and some polish/finish work. I’d order a few different belts that are either those grits or in that range to see what you like to work with! It’s better to finish on a higher grit because it makes the finish easier/takes time off your hand sanding
