The professional quality of these reviews is stunning, always worth watching. Still looking forward to an 'At The Railyard' 2 hr movie...hint, hint...lol.
This is very very late response... but honestly, that 2hr movie doesn't sound too bad now, considering he has about 3 years world of episodes to make up for.
I always loved this series. Not only does it feel like a review series, but also a series of railroad music videos. Thank you for making this a fantastic show, Nick!
Hi. Just a note to say that thanks to the way you have added music to this, I have purchased (legitimately through I tunes) a number of tracks from this and other vids that you have put out in this series. The effect is great and the music is spot on and has inspired me to put together a short scene from one of the other routes on TS. (search for 'Leaving Provo' if you're interested). Also. your line about TS becoming a major part of your life for twelve years is positively scary... I only got into this in March of this year. All the best. C
I married a guy who was a BN fan, modeler, and spent many summers at Glacier Park. I started on Marias pass on MSTS and will head over to railworks as soon as I get my steam client unlocked.
its interesting to me to hear your opening of you getting train simulator and it becoming a major part of your life. I to bought msts when it first came out having been a railfan and now the major part of my life is working for the railroad.
I remember buying this game and when I saw it I remember waiting for its release and taking a trip to Altoona where they had a boxcar with a train simulator setup inside I was amazed and was totally blown away feeling like I was driving a real locomotive see guys I was born in 1977 and when I was in school games were still pacman Atari pong ect pixel games there was no high tech graphics like today so when I started playing these high end simulators and games I was blown away and amazed now its the year 2016 and im 38 years old and games are so realistic its just mind blowing to think were I came from til now how fast things have evolved graphics computers technology ect
Nice Nick,Been waiting on your comments on this route before getting it,Think im gonna hold off for now.Guess im a little skeptical yet to buy! Great review
something I want for 2014 is when you apply the air brakes, you should be able to look at the brake shoes clamping onto the wheels and seeing sparks fly off
Ironically I was just driving Marias Pass 5 for MSTS the other day, and was impressed how it superseded the default route pretty greatly. But this RW version - WOW! And from the looks of it, it follows the old MSTS layout verbatim? (IE; Whitefish, Shelby and Kalispell?) Nice job by RSC, and as always brilliant film work and editing by you Nick. Great stuff! :)
RSC is currently working on the GP38-2 pack for the route and will come in BN and BNSF, we should see it available sometime this month. Im shure it will come with some rolling stock as well.
the cars should be in the railcar section, which is the thing next to the little loco when you placed the p42, if that makes sense. i think the passenger cars for it are called surfliners if it is not that then the name will have 'Amtrak' in it. try that, and if it doesnt work i dont know
The route looks stunning. Breathtaking. Great choice of music too. Can you create and modify activities for the route. Like if I wanted to use the Empire Builder could I do this?
One important aspect of the Marias Pass route that RSC should be aware of is that BNSF has no longer operates Columbia Falls to Kalispell. BNSF spun-off the Kalispell Branch in late 2004 to WATCO as the Mission Mountain Railroad.
Licensing. DTG probably didn't have licensing to replicate Mission Mountain when it ran the Kalispell Branch. BNSF has since resumed operations on it, with the portion in Downtown Kalispell abandoned and turned to a rail trail with a new business park outside of downtown.
I have a problem with the ES44 that came with the route, it doesn't have a driver side left wiper that works in-cab, but it works no matter what outside. It even wipes, just there is no animation inside the cab...
They're not in the list, but thank you anyway. Now I know about the object filter I can place many other trains in a free roam scenario that are not quick drive compatible :)
love the videos but with train simulator 2013, quick drive allows you to go from point A to point B on a route although there is no traffic but if you want point A to B then there you go
Last time I tried that too and the p42 was not in the list of rolling stock. I will try it again, maybe it got updated or something. Anyway, thank you :)
Huh, you're right, can't find it on the store here in Canada either. You can probably download a torrent of it on Pirate Bay or something. Funny how they would region-lock it outside the US... You would expect it to be the other way around, as BNSF is an American railway.(with a few short interchange lines going into Canada)
this pass is just west of me. i live in glasgow montana. both games got it damn close. looking out from Shelby in 2015 and looking at the country side.... the landscape, especially with snow.....its 100% what it looks like. and i go to college in missoula. thats what the rocky mountian front looks like. 100%. Near missoula in the sun river area its a sheer vertical drop. google sun river mountians..... its a cool view! the mountians look in game do look exactly like the rockeis. a big climb, open ground, then more climbing but not as bad. lol anyway.... thats why the pass is their.... the smoothest grades threw the rockeis. the HIi-Line is what it is called.... and what the strip of towns like mine are called which run along side it.
Any idea on how to get a pc to run this? The only route I can run without any lag (But I still have lowest possible setings) Is the Moscow, Camden, and San Augustine in Texas, available at RWA.
Great video man! Your name looks so familiar. I want to say we created some MSTS add ons together? I made quite a few addons for that thing all those years ago :)
marias pass was so much better than the others, horseshoe curve was included in 2012 and sherman hill in 2013 and donner pass in 2014(puke) i don't want a brand new new or slightly new route in 2016, just give us a good one. and obviously marias pass would be the first on the list of good routes.
Very nice review. Did you run into any bugs/glitches on any of the scenarios? I've been hit by so many from this company, I feel their products are a bit of a rip off. Sherman Hill has several bugs that make certain scenarios totally unachievable. Have had a few problems on Donner, as well. My pc runs this series easily, with everything maxed out. Thanks again for your great review.
Good review, but I have one bone to pick with you. Showing off the P42DC that just is impossible to get. It is a very beautiful route but trainsimulator disappoints on the actual simulation part. somehow they insist on simulating railway modeling rather than a train operational simulations imo.
Well the route looks great but you´re right weak sounds and missions+ the re-released P42 dlc mess.... And im the only one who noticed that SD40-2s have ingame more power than Gevo´s???-.- Also returned this horrible couplers in newer routes/dlc´s.... Seriously i have no idea why this thing is still called a Simulator...
You can buy the P42DC Empire Builder DLC and it has two career scenarios. Though there are tons more using that DLC on the Steam Workshop. I have that and the F40PH California Zephyr DLC so I can run workshop scenarios in either the BN or BNSF era. It's important to clarify that you can only use Workshop scenarios as there aren't any default scenarios using the F40 on Marias Pass as it was meant to accompany Donner Pass.
I really hate this addon, Not for its Detail or locomotives, But its ability to fully disable an ASUS UL80T Laptops ability to run railworks at more than 2 FPS
This video is a lost dream of my childhood. Thank you Nick

My PC runs this addon at over 60 FPS with Max Settings, I love Railworks 2013. Awesome review my friend.
Nice Nick,Been waiting on your comments on this route before getting it,Think im gonna hold off for now.Guess im a little skeptical yet to buy! Great review

Nice review Nick, hopefully RSC fixes the SD40-2 sounds, and freight train sounds.
Just get mods from Searchlight Simulations. They are very rich and feel like you're standing best next to the real locomotive.
Really want this route but too bad it's only available in the US 😭
the cars should be in the railcar section, which is the thing next to the little loco when you placed the p42, if that makes sense. i think the passenger cars for it are called surfliners if it is not that then the name will have 'Amtrak' in it. try that, and if it doesnt work i dont know
Dang that seems to be the best answer anyone gives.
The route looks stunning. Breathtaking. Great choice of music too. Can you create and modify activities for the route. Like if I wanted to use the Empire Builder could I do this?
you must check it in the object filter if you have bought it
One important aspect of the Marias Pass route that RSC should be aware of is that BNSF has no longer operates Columbia Falls to Kalispell. BNSF spun-off the Kalispell Branch in late 2004 to WATCO as the Mission Mountain Railroad.

I hate when people do not specify in description the song that they use!
Good review!
They're in the credits at the end! :)
theres also a GP38-2 addon, so you can drive it on the Route too.
Very very nice video. Marias pass route is my favorite route.
I have a problem with the ES44 that came with the route, it doesn't have a driver side left wiper that works in-cab, but it works no matter what outside. It even wipes, just there is no animation inside the cab...
Awesome video! Thanks for taking my suggestion.
You should do a review over the MSTS route "GN Hi-Line/ Marias Pass" on TrainSim
I really do hope that Railworks creates a Surfliner Route
How about a review of the Western Lines of Scotland and it's DLC for Railworks?
They're not in the list, but thank you anyway. Now I know about the object filter I can place many other trains in a free roam scenario that are not quick drive compatible :)
You gonna do a review of Smokebox's Conny? Or maybe his Northerns when they come?
There's a patch for the SD40 sounds at Railworks America.
I have herd people say copying the animation type file from the UP ES44AC from Sherman Hill to the BNSF Loco and it fixed the problem.
well lots of people wanted to see this.
It's fine for me if I watch it via "At The Railyard" Great review as always
Cheers
I notice that snow falls inside the sheds on marias pass. I thought with donner pass they would improve on that.
You've done it again. Good video!
Great review, i got the route and other locomotives, there are great!!!! Loved the Review
Please review the Canadian mountain passes route, it is great
Very interesting review . Thanks.
love the videos but with train simulator 2013, quick drive allows you to go from point A to point B on a route although there is no traffic but if you want point A to B then there you go
This version looks WAY better than the MSTS version. I wish I had Railworks.
Last time I tried that too and the p42 was not in the list of rolling stock. I will try it again, maybe it got updated or something. Anyway, thank you :)
Good review. Thanks for making.
Ok thanks, I don't have it so I thought they were sold separately by Year.
Excellent video! Are there any railroad sims available for Mac - now or in the future? Thanks, Fred
Your lucky. I live in Australia and the BNSF forbids Dovetail Games to release this route outside America. Damn you BNSF.
I've checked it in the object filter and I can place the p42 engines but I can't seem to find the passenger cars.
I am getting the same issue, even after 3 refreshes
Can someone send me the steam store link for the P42DC?
amazing review, thank you
this pass is just west of me. i live in glasgow montana.

i live and drive along and have done work and walked on many bridges and been around this stretch of rail for about two years now it is very accurate
Any idea on how to get a pc to run this? The only route I can run without any lag (But I still have lowest possible setings) Is the Moscow, Camden, and San Augustine in Texas, available at RWA.
Above and Beyond! :D
One more thing: how do you create a free roam in marias pass? I did a quick drive but the "world editor" button in the menu is disabled.
Great video man! Your name looks so familiar. I want to say we created some MSTS add ons together? I made quite a few addons for that thing all those years ago :)
Can I take over the At The Railyard series please?
I am thinking about getting a new computer for train simulator 2015 any ideas on what i should get?
I do also find the SD40 horns to be inaccurate for BN and BNSF
This is the only Railworks route that is the same in comparison to the MSTS route in size
Thanks!
Excellent video. A&B \o/
IV BEEN AT THE BELTON MANY TIMES
A great Video ! Thank you so much!
marias pass was so much better than the others, horseshoe curve was included in 2012 and sherman hill in 2013 and donner pass in 2014(puke)
i don't want a brand new new or slightly new route in 2016, just give us a good one. and obviously marias pass would be the first on the list of good routes.
Stevens Pass is phenomenal too. I believe that was created by G-Trax and not RSC though.
Unfortunately, DTG updated this route so that it's not available for people outside the US, why would they do that anyway?
New policy from BNSF
Just change your region...
I tried that, it would be too much trouble.
Then you didn’t do it right
I have this... It's great
Good review, but I have one bone to pick with you. Showing off the P42DC that just is impossible to get. It is a very beautiful route but trainsimulator disappoints on the actual simulation part. somehow they insist on simulating railway modeling rather than a train operational simulations imo.
Agreed! Much more 'train game', than train sim. If you want a train sim; heavy on the sim part, check out Run 8.
I have a fricking model railroad, which freaking kicks all these simulator's fucking asses!
Thanks for your answer :)
P.S: Very good review
how much for the amtrak
wait what about the GP38-2 add-on for marias pass in railworks?
Retired DLC. Same for the SD40-2, both grouped with the F45 as the BNSF Locomotive Pack DLC.
How do you get the p42 on, the line at 2:03? It's not quick drive compatible.
I've played it on Microsoft sim and rode it
Can you review a trainz route? You dont have alot of those, trainz route reviews
Ok thx, will do :)
Perfect video :) LIKE!
freeze frame at 6.50 as noted. But nice video anyway.
Worked perfectly for me, I am using Google Chrome.
Well the route looks great but you´re right weak sounds and missions+ the re-released P42 dlc mess.... And im the only one who noticed that SD40-2s have ingame more power than Gevo´s???-.-
Also returned this horrible couplers in newer routes/dlc´s....
Seriously i have no idea why this thing is still called a Simulator...
Where can I find it? I'm kind of a noob in world editor :P
Is there any Amtrak Scenarios I can get for this route?
You can buy the P42DC Empire Builder DLC and it has two career scenarios. Though there are tons more using that DLC on the Steam Workshop. I have that and the F40PH California Zephyr DLC so I can run workshop scenarios in either the BN or BNSF era. It's important to clarify that you can only use Workshop scenarios as there aren't any default scenarios using the F40 on Marias Pass as it was meant to accompany Donner Pass.
I never would buy this just cause my PC can hardly run Cajun Pass.
The tittle says railworks. Is this railworks one two or three...
The latest version is 2014. If you have Railworks, it automatically updates to the latest version of itself.
Screen Shot simulator 2013. This GAME is not a simulator. I was amazed by how horrible the physics are and the locomotives are like toys
Use the 4449 Over this pass.
What's the name of the locomotive at 2:04?
its an Amtrak P42DC Empire Builder that commonly runs on Marias pass
Same for me.
Microsoft Train Simulator was the best no douth!!!!
I really hate this addon, Not for its Detail or locomotives, But its ability to fully disable an ASUS UL80T Laptops ability to run railworks at more than 2 FPS
nope :3
