    Very interesting video however one thing that I notice about these kind of locks is they talk about the security of the lock but not about the physical security of the lock. Most of these cylinder locks are defeated by snapping them unless they have anti snap designs. These are even worse as they protrude so far so it would be very easy to get leverage on the lock itself. Not something I’d put on my house without some kind of info on this from the manufacturer. The IT security is irrelevant if the lock is physically vulnerable. Also doesn’t work with multi point locks which are very common in UK. In general I agree with you, it doesn’t seem that smart, doesn’t enhance the product!

      You probably missed where I talked about it near the end. Check out this video - th-cam.com/video/ht4lP-dJ1iw/w-d-xo.html Looks like it's hard to snap or break off outer part. Also cylindar is divided in two parts and only in second part of it could you engage the lock.

      @@BeardedTinker yeah I heard that big and have seen the video but of course that’s not actually how criminals break locks. Normally with pipe and leverage which applies substantial force in a different way to walloping it. It not being a UK euro cylinder probably helps as it is thicker at the top though.

    This looks like a decent lock, but it is quite expensive and honestly, judging by the video, it looks a little ugly. ust to me :).
    Seriously though. The killer for me is not the price, but Home Assistant. I want things all integrated to HA so I am more likely to look possibly at August/Yale for this. Great video though. You really did go into some great detail, including physical build, which is really refreshing for a review of a smart lock.

      Thank you Brendan!!! It really is a shame. I was actually considering to do in future "extended" video or behind the scenes for those reviews / for channel members. Things are not always simple. Sometime things end up being better than they look, but other times, they are much worse :)
      This lock really surprised me with build quality - but such a shame we can't get it in HA. For backup lock or lock not on front door, I think it really fits the profile. But yeah, for that purpose, price is too high.

      Agree with that, very nice video as includes way more details that matter. BT always does a nice job

      Now I am curious: Which smart lock you use with Home assistant?

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nuki here! :)

    • @EsotericArctos

      @@Saxtus I like the Nuki, but at the time I couldn't get one in Australia so I have August Gen 3 Smart lock, which connects to Home Assistant directly via secure bluetooth. I also like the Switchbot locks. My main thing is to keep the outside looking as "original" as possible and also being able to use an existing key. With August, Nuki and Switchbot (and possibly a couple of others) they retrofit onto existing locks so from the outside it doesn't look like you have a smartlock.
      Just me maybe, I don't like advertising I have electronic gadgets and tempting fate, not to mention it makes it easy for non techy people that live in the same house :)

    "note the nuber"? (2:09)

      That number on the cylinder is referenced later in video as one of the things you'll need to add the locket o your account.

      And I missed it again 😂 too late anyway, no way to edit video after it is released. Missed it probably 5-6 times while it was being edited 😂

    Interesting video. The lockpicking lawyer here on TH-cam just posted a vid on another lock from this company. He opened it in seconds exploiting a 100 year old weakness. Not very reassuring. Think I'll pass on them.

      EDIT: I haven't found ANY lock from WeLock there or similar lock. Are you sure you've seen it at his channel - can you try and post the link?

      That's a waferlock padlock, totally different mechanism, wish people got facts correct before posting sperious comments. But agree ugly, too expensive and no HA= non started.

      @@davidtjac waferlock and wedlock are sister companies. Oddly, one is based in Shenzhen and the other Taiwan. Maybe not the same company, but close. At least that is what the internet thinks.

    horrible looking piece of metal for horrible price
    with regards to fingers: have you tried with -2C outside? or dirty hands?
    finger prints reader is less useful and less prone to fault than the keyboard

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did try at -2 outside. No difference in using than normal handle you have to grab at -2. But yes, the price is high.
      Also, I did have a lot of grease on my hands when using fingerprint reader and it was working really good.
