We've gone from wet and cold weather in May to sunny and warm weather, so my massies are in the bathroom where it is cooler for them. Great advice about the shade netting Mick. TH-cam makes its money through advertising, and it's their policy now to insert ads at the beginning (especially) and throughout sometimes; what they want of course is for you to subscribe to Premium and pay on a monthly basis, to avoid these pop-ups. I would never monetise my channel because, like you, it is my hobby and one which I like to share. Keep up the good work Mick. Thank you also for the volunteering work you do, you all deserve our heartfelt thanks. Take care.
Thanks for you’re encouraging words Margaret yes it appears that TH-cam will put ads on all channels whether you’re you want them or don’t and get the revenue so I hope my viewers just skip the ads and I’ve noticed some channels who are monetised just put videos out for revenue purposes on a regular basis, any way enough of me moaning, sounds like you’re massie’s are in the best place. Happy growing.
Hi there Mick😌🙌I enjoy watching your Masdevallias. The shade cloth is a must. I've been working on a shaded area this year with shade cloth because it gets too hot here. My shaded area is cheap and does the job, not pretty at all, but practical👍
Interesting insight into how you shade your greenhouse. Love your videos and would like to see one on dividing your masses. I have a few but am new with them, they are much smaller than yours but will need dividing eventually. Thanks again for the videos.
No problem John I’ve got a few to divide shortly once they have finished blooming, to be honest I like the smaller divisions there more compact and a lot easier to water and take care of. Thanks for watching and commenting much appreciated.
Just in time. You just saved me some money on shade netting that I wanted to buy from ebay... For my channel, I went with TH-cam premium, is eliminating all the ads plus you have some perks.
Hope you get what you need, it’s so easy for people just to see the write up saying shade netting and people purchase and it ends up a waste of money. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Hi Mick, thanks for another very informative video. Most of my Masdevallias and Draculas are now outside on my north wall under a double layer of Aluminet - I didn't find it much use in keeping the heat out of the greenhouse, but it works well for shading. Pricey, but long-lasting. I like your idea of shade mesh over a sun shade, it's something I've been thinking about but didn't want to spend the money on yet another thing that doesn't work. Having seen your setup I now feel it's worth going ahead, so will get that sorted in the next few days. Masdevallia 'Prince de Galle' is a named form of Masdevallia veitchiana, so is a species. (The "e" on the end is not accented, so not pronounced.)
Debbie thanks very much for the information regarding De Galle, I hope your masses enjoy the outdoors I'm sure they will, test I have found it better on the roof with shade cloth then a layer of shade netting and I do agree Aluminet is a better product .Happy growing.
@@MicksMasdevalliaorchids You're welcome. It's on my wish-list - I don't have any veitchiana at the moment but also no space. That's about to change with a second greenhouse (I hope). My massies and other cloud forest types, along with a couple of vandas, dendrobiums and other assorted intermediates, always summer outside, and seem to thoroughly enjoy the fresh air.
They love fresh air I open my greenhouse every morning to allow air exchanges before the sun comes up, glad you’re massie’s and other orchids can enjoy the open air. Will be great with another greenhouse unfortunately it soon gets full 😂.
Not sure if it’s available in Europe but I prefer a brand called Aluminet shading for a very important reason. It reflects light rather than absorbing it which creates heat. My greenhouse is much cooler because of this. Thanks for the video, Mic!!!
Wade that’s what I tried to explain I know Roger used something very similar and Oliver when Oliver’s greenhouse was a live channel, I might consider investing in some if it’s not too expensive, thanks for watching and giving me some advice, have a great season and happy growing.
What a fantastic plant and colour beautiful nice to see you again
Yes a true beauty thanks very much for watching and commenting. Happy growing.
