A word about the audio quality: See those 2 things clipped to our tops? I invested in 2 x wireless SmartMike+ on Indiegogo to fix past audio issues & avoid doggo cable tangles. Seemed great. Tested great. Finished filming & it had garbled all the audio. 🤦♂️ Had to defer to the camera mic which was further away. Next stop wired Rode lapel mics with doggo tangles! 🤷♂️
:P
still having audio issues ?
See those 2 things clipped to our tops? I invested in the SmartMike+ on Indiegogo. Seemed great. Tested great. Came to film and it garbled all the audio. 🤦♂️ Had to defer to the camera mic which was further away. I tried!
I'm already here in The Netherlands so I'll definitely be paying a visit...and thanks for another great video and an almost heart attack 😂
I want a Dutch Brownie dispenser at work like puppy fractic has!
It's a great honor to be able to display this machine in our museum and keep it's heart to go on. We will definitely make sure it won't get hit by icebergs or Celine Dion. But if Leonardo wants to draw it naked, I will allow it.. once. Thank you for all who made this possible!
Haha. No guarantees Celine won't hit it ("Hit it Celine!" 🎶) but I'll reach out to Leo's agent now. Seriously, thanks for your part in all this! Another trip to Holland is due for us I think!...
Ik kom een keer langs🤗
ik ook!

I hate it when people say "oh just replace the fuse" The seem to forget that a fuse only blows if something else has gone wrong. Replacing the fuse does not fix the problem that caused it to blow in the first place.
I wondered why he was spending all that money on a slow blow fuse rather than a regular one
Hi, I know, that often something else is broken. But in my experience, the fuse is often in series to a transformer. If the voltage is too high, the fuse immedeatly blows, because the current on the primary circuit is too high. I did not want to upset you.... Sorry
I'll absolutely echo that. If someone asks me to repair something and says "I swapped the fuse first - the one in the machine, not the one in the plug"... I'll triple the repair labour estimate. And I'm going to send this video to the next person who argues over the bill! XD
The old trick with power supply repair is to wire a 100W lightbulb (filament type) in series. If it glows brightly, there's still a problem. Difference is, the current is limited low enough that you can measure and find the problem without the risk of more failures.
@@philpem That's brilliant! If the light is bright then the PSU has a short. Thanks for the tip. Got any more?
Well said. The fuse isn't the problem, something else is. Anyone who says to replace the fuse, obviously doesn't have a clue about what fuses are used for.
HAHAHAA! That was so Rik Mayall or Eddie Izzard: "Enjoy your food, and don't worry about me being dead." I love your humor, PerriFractic.
Puppyfractic is so devoted to this couple. What a great dog!
And as usual Puppyfractic steals every scene she's in! Good girl!
I fell for your little trick at 5:32. It may have been silly, but I liked it.
🤭
Bad ideas in the comments are never in SHORT SUPPLY
I see what you did there
Dank je wel! The best (comedic) retro content on YT!!!
Laughed so hard because I’ve been there. Terrified after sorting out a power supply on an old top loader vcr and it arced to my wedding ring. I was still shaking as I lowered the vcr carcass into the trash. 😂
OMG! 😂
Back in the day (87-89 somewhere in there) one of my jobs required a team of about 20 of us to breakdown a truckload of TV's. Now as you do (as we did) we were using a long stem screwdriver to push under the EHT cap and connect it to earth so that the tube was discharged before proceeding. Well it was one of those really hot and sweaty days in London with no AC. So I had pushed the screwdriver under the cap and one of my workmates came up behind me slapped me on the shoulder of the arm holding the screwdriver (he was just saying hi). My hand must have slipped ( I have no recollection of the actual accident) because the next thing I know is that I'm on the floor with my head resting on the side of the bench. The thing is it wasnt a bench in my row. I was told that there was an almighty crack and I went flying over 2 lab benches (thay are quite tall and I am rather short) I awoke to one of the guys leaning over me asking if I could hear him, I took the rest of the day off. The screwdriver melted the entire head and burned a notch most of the way through the stem where I must have contacted it. I got off lucky, I had a minor burn on a couple of fingers and some small balls of metal embedded into my skin on one finger. Recommended 11 out of 10 :-)
@@daishi5571 Wow 🥺
I shorted across a PC power supply that was damaged (not grounding) and a metal watchband. I feel ya!
Been there too mine was with one of those cheap plasma globes at the time i was a fool and didn’t know what a capacitor was and so a bright pink arc hit my hand and I was practically unaware of my surroundings for a good minute
That blown-up power-supply reminds me the time when I was an IT-technician student. In the summertime me and a friend of mine was learning at a computer store where one of the first jobs they gave us was fixing used power supplies. They told us to measure the transistors first, we didn't even touch the fuses before measuring them. An other trick that tube-amp repairmen often use is to wire a light-bulb series with the unit under test so it will limit the current if the unit has a short circuit.
What a funny episode. I laughed so much about this voltage issue. Not about this little accident itself, more about how you acted after this and how you was shaking and falling from the chair. And the punch line was puppyfractic as she stepped over your ... :-D
the automatic dog feeder is pretty cool! Doc Brown from back to the future would be impressed.
Now, let's hope that plane to Holland doesn't hit an iceberg...
The lettuce?
Your avatar is weird.
Or a nervous republican guard who's been spooked by a loud mouthed freak on twitter.. (too soon?)
Just as I thought, Marvin.. cool.
A bit of nitpicking but can we please use the proper name of the country, The Netherlands ?
Holland only represents 2 provinces of the country and is just utterly wrong.
By the way lady fractie pronouncing dankjewel was perfect!
Part 2 : he tries replacing the fuse with a SLOWER blow fuse, and cut to the space-station so that you can see the arcing from Europe to NW Asia this time, finally jumping to Penguin-land. :)
throw in some potato Smiths chips and you have yourself a favourite viewer..
To Erik who worked on the set with that computer, I am curious to learn more what all you did with it on set. I love how older film production was done with early computers. I remember reading that the Titanic was edited on DV tape apparently. And then I expect was used to get the time code of the original film and then cut together manually based off the edited timecode. Very fascinating to see the actual computer that was there on set as well. If I could go back in time I'd love to have seen all that. Great job to everyone and thank you all for sharing bits of history.
The PSU blowing up was the best part. :) I appreciate the slowed down replay. :D Also, congrats on the steps taken to revive this Amiga - good work, I appreciate the effort.
Thanks!
Great video as they all usually are! It was a pleasure being part of it. I hope we can do some more things together in the future with a more positive outcome and happier endings.
I'm happy!
Thank you guys both so much!! I'm sure we'll find something else to do in the future 👍🕹️
WOW to the pricetag of that fuse!! The 5x20 - 5A fuse I buy costs US $0.68 per lot (10 pieces)
I guess I pay for convenience. 🤷♂️ No hardware shops that I know of are as close.
0:51 > 1:41 Nicely put Perifractic and Lady! :) But seriously, these videos are so thoroughly enjoyable. Why would anyone imagine them to be vacant of spontaneity is beyond me.
7:16 she does look a bit like Trinity from the Matrix but a more beautiful version ☺️
What a beautiful woman. Can get enough of looking at her.
Disco Tek can or can’t?
Very true indeed. Well spotted! :D
Well, now we know how to tell if Perifractic is playing dead... just get Puppyfractic to hit him in the plums.
Puppyfractic knew you weren't dead. They can sense those things.
The dog could probably hear his heart beat even if they were separated by a meter of snow.
Puppyfractic was like "Oh, here he goes again putting me on his memes!"
Thanks guys! Your channel is so entertaining on this Commodore restoration - had to fix me a cup of tea to enjoy this! Yes tea! you read correctly! Happy New Year & Cheers!
Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot! 👍🕹
I used to repair TV's back in the CRT days and rarely was the fuse blown as a result of a power surge or even lightning strike, it's normally because components have failed and there the fuse plays a role in protecting the AC Mains from being shorted. Some TV's had numerous components blown but the fuse was still ok, and in those cases it generally was as a result of power surge.
Anyone who comments and just says replace the fuse, knows very little about electronics why stuff happens. Having said that occasionally replacing the fuse can work, always get the multimeter out first.
Imperious685 but you must admit the fun factor 😅
Love that perihumor sprinkled everywhere in these episodes

Thoroughly enjoyable viewing, thank u for sharing.
Dog seems concerned, until food came out lol.
This was possibly the most exciting and dramatic episode ever! Some of that stardust has rubbed off on the RR household!
Great video, had a right laugh at the end of this vid... Glad this 4000 is going to a great home.
Easy for you to laugh, you still have your eyebrows and all endowments!
I applaud your channeling of ElectroBoom!
had to laugh seeing this video as only this week, found a pc at the e-waste pile in the dump, same thing busted fuse in psu, same thing large bang when replaced .... the joy of bangs! Plus side was once I put in a new PSU all was sweet! Ahh the smell of magic smoke in the morning. Interesting CPR technique from puppy fractic, one pump in the three piece suite and you'd recovered.. very effective :)
One thing I've learned is tantalum capacitors tend to short over time which I suspect is due to moisture ingress when the conformal coating cracks. I use a meter and pull one leg to test for a short or use an ESR meter
This had some serious Electroboom vibes going on.
Jokes: This is a couple who came of age in the 80s, because the guy spent more time on his hair than the girl. ;) And there's nothing wrong with that. At 2:09 ...maybe why you only have fur babies. ;)
Oh man! PeriShockTrick, (or StarFire, if you prefer) you really blew that, literally. LOL. Reminds me of the office shredder I tried to repair last year. No joke, the hair on my arms and eyebrows finally grew back.
When you shriek when the power supply supplies the magic smoke just cracked me up LOL.
Easy to laugh when you weren't there! 😉
Another entertaining vid. Especially the last bit where the dogs food comes out . Ouch !!🤣
Wasn’t entertaining for me!!
A super video once again... the way you are doing it is super... nice and easy and full of information on retro computers.. Keep them coming !!
Cheers Kim!!
Puppy can smell exactly what component blew up. From 500 m distance.
Hm, I was wondering why it's a time delay fuse. So your stuff can blow up before the fuse breaks?
Too bad that epic A4000 was beyond repair. My retro heart is beating right now, man I want a Amiga again! Do have a C64 and a C128 in the basement though 😄
Get em out right now!
@@RetroRecipes Would love to, but one power supply is broke, and hardly any cassettes is working. Tried to show my kid a while ago how real computers look, but had to give up.
@@thomasa76 You can get modern power supplies for all retro computers quite easily so that's not a problem. In fact you should not use the originals, especially for the likes of C64 or amigas because those things just kill machines when they fail. Also mass media is easily available, you can get an SD-card adapter for the C64 which can hold all the games that computer ever had.
@@benbaselet2026 Thanks for feedback. Do you know any good, reliable source to buy these things from?
@@thomasa76 Not really, sorry :/ I can't remember where I bought the SD card adapter but I'd guess most of them work. Power supplies I just build myself, part of the hobby. All of the cheapo ide/compact flash stuff I've bought off the chinesen in ebay for my A1200 work just fine.
I feel your pain. I always use fast blow fuses to prevent such issues. Testing of components individually also prove quite useful. As anything can be refurbished, just let me know if I can help!
I got 'con-fused', I luv 'dead' jokes :P (btw very nice work guys)
Good Job Guys . Nice video . When the fuse burns in the power supply. Parts must have been burned in the First Stage
I was working on an amiga 2000 and Paul R. was an amazing person getting me in contact with john h (maker or diagrom). also paul carpenter. I was able to get the board working with their help.
Damn, dude, I just got finished watching your video on Amiga vs Mac Chess, and felt nostalgic. Now you're really sending me *way* back; I have friends who worked on Titanic, on some of the so-called "money shots". And worked with them for a while in a Hollywood fx studio. Thanx again for the nostalgia :^) _(gotta get my Amiga out of storage....)_
You're welcome! 👍🕹️
Trying to remember, something, something power supplies. ; )
I never tried to fix power supplies, I just swapped them out.
There used to be a tech in Plano, Texas who was an expert at repairing them.
I was too busy to let him teach me.
I spent 12 to 16 hours a day at my regular job. : (
The problem is shown at 18:39 when your bits get corrupted.
That explosion was sooo coool !!!!
ALWAYS use a incandescent bulb in series to limit the current in possible faulty electronics
I love this Dog! She always get to the point! :)

Think you were a bit late for the new year firework display. RIP Amiga mother board & PSU, at least the remaining parts are going to a good home. Another fanfractic video.
Perifractic + electrocuted = Perifrazzled. I never laughed so hard! Great video.
1:10 is how you restore the balance in the Pun Force, all around the universe, young Anakin. Watch the Lady, and learn. I must say, that poor Amiga really went through a lot of stuff - it's sad in a way that its integrity could not be preserved, but I'm sure it will live a wonderful second life in Holland. I visited the computer museum in Berlin, I guess I could enjoy a trip to the Netherlands, too. :) Oh, and thanks for the magic fire, Gandalfractic. You made me remember our first C64 power supply, which got *FIZZ* after probably one year, maybe less. Dad went and change the fuse, only to obtain an even bigger *FIZZ*. A couple of days after, a new Commodore Timebomb entered the house. I'm definitely not going to turn on either my C64 or my A1200 once I get them back before accurately inspecting them. Another lovely video, great way to start this year! :)
Thank you for your kind words. Means a lot! 👍🕹And I'm sorry for your loss!

Perifractic, you have the most soothing voice! I first heard it on the Commodore that went round the world. I'm very curious, is Lady Fractic your wife, or your sister? You have similar facial structure...
Lol that's so funny! You're the second person to say we look like siblings this week. The last was at a dinner party (by a lovely older lady who once dated Rod Taylor). In truth she is my wife. Ladyfractic I mean, not Rod Taylor's ex. 👍🕹

Great video fractic fam!
PSU was made by SKYNET. Perhaps not resurrecting it was a good thing?
🤪 see what you did there.
Ok, so you three are back from doing cameo appearances in The 8-Bit Guy´s latest video? Nice :)
Yup just got back! ;-)
Started my Amiga A1200 for the first time in 20 years, or sort of: I had to do it twice to make the video stop rolling at high speed. I expected lower video color performance or an explosion of the caps, but I kept running 24 hours then soon after running 8 hours with perfect performance (except for the the first attempt to get video). Long time ago I owned a "Paravision" or "Panavision" device to turn an Amiga CD32 into an Amiga A1200 (I sold it over 20 years ago along with A600, A500 and SCSI drive to get some more space where I was living).
Great vid as always. Puppyfractic subtlety steals the show any time she gets airtime. What a good dog!
WAIT! ... 14:02 ... The PowerSupply is From SKYNET Electronics... this is doomed! :-D
I don't know how I missed that!
Retro Recipes yea... so it started! ... they re in our commodores, they are in our amigas ... and finally they took over. Okay get orly and the puppies save, because you found there plan out . They will hunt you down... i guess you can handle this... because with the powersupply you practically killed the first terminator! Lol
You frankenfished it!
There's a story behind that term. Many moons ago when I was stationed in Italy, I had an old PC that I rescued out of a skip. For some reason, that machine got dubbed "frankenfish", because I frankensteined it into working and it kinda looked like a fish if you squint (it was an old Compaq Presario).
I accidentally plugged it into 240v while it was set to 120. I opened it up, swapped the fuse, put it back in, and when I powered up, it ran for about fifteen seconds, and then... Well, what happened to you happened to me, with much smoke, fire and stench. I had this little duster thing that used CO2 cartridges, so I quickly used that as a fire extinguisher. It was quite clear that machine had chooched its last.
But that's not the end of it! The following week, at work, we got this shiny new super-expensive secure fax machine. I set its PSU to 120V, grabbed a US-style power cable, plugged it into a US-style power strip, hit the switch, and *BANG*.
Pick myself up, shake off the shock, avoid getting defenestrated by walking my boss through exactly what I just did. Well, now she's boggled too. So we pull up the tiles to see what that power strip is connected to: it's plugged into a US-style extension cord, which we followed for about fifty feet under the floor, to find that the end had been snipped off and an Italian-style power plug had been spliced on and plugged into a 240V Italian-type outlet! On a second look, every single other device plugged into the power strip was voltage-autosensing!
When I told my roommate about it that night, he said "so you frankenfished the secure fax machine?"
That's what I've called that kind of error, ever since.
Great story Dr!
:O waaaait a moment. She is your wife ? :) omg. Congratulations (saw the Amiga Chess Video and thought she just joined from another Channel)
I'm a lucky boy :-) This is her channel ;-)

Nee, kunnen ze niet. Maar ik weet wel wie dat wel kan. Maar die haat 4000 moederborden en heeft het al druk met deze ;)
Nice!
I'm disappointed that nobody mentioned the series light-bulb trick with power supply repair. You hook a 100W filament light bulb in series (cut the live wire, wire both ends to a lamp holder). The bulb limits the current when you've replaced components, so a small repair doesn't turn into a bigger one. That PSU probably needed a lot of parts... but now, yeah, I'd write it off unless it was *really* special.
An illuminating tip
LOL @ the end.. thanks for the smile :)
No Peribabies, but at least the sacrifice was for a good cause.
