Winger was a band I'd never heard of until 1991. I remember this well as I bought a cassette tape at a back street store in Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War. They helped me through.
This kind of music is makeing a comeback. The kids today are tired of the poor me life sucks image the bands today are puttin out. They want the 80' hairbands, feel good about life rock n roll music. Life is good, Should be glad to be alive people!!!!!!
Timing. That's the long and short of it. I'd argue to say that Winger, Slaughter, Warrant, Firehouse and Trixter all put out their finest material in their 1992-93 releases - dropping the glitz and adding a heavier edge. Unfortunately, by mid-1992, if you had a singer who had a range above a low baritone growl, washed his hair, wore anything but a greasy service station shirt or pretended to be happy to be alive - you were ignored. Shame, but that was the industry.
one of my all time favourite Winger tunes from my favourite Winger album. I am very glad, they guys are back on the scene and doing great music again. Winger 4 started exactly where Pull ended the latest release Karma is logic next step. But Pull is still a masterpiece!
I have to agree about the timing having an effect on the success of 'Pull'. When this came out, I was...stunned by the intensity of songs like 'Down Incognito' and 'Junkyard Dog'. But not a lot of people 'got it'. What is funny, now some 17 or so years later, I can break this song out while on the boat and people just FLOCK to it, asking questions like, "Who IS that? That ROCKS!"
Yeah, never got the grunge thing...to me it just meant the end of stunning, epic, superlative, shredding guitar solos...and Winger iced the cake with Reb Beach solos....so F##k me if I never fell in love with eddie vedder bellowing like a tased water buffalo..Overnight the fun metal shows became emo/smack drool " yawn-fests"
Def Lep,etc... might be more successful commercially, but Winger's getting the last laugh these days. Karma is being very well received - much better than anything these other bands have done recently. Plus, Kip is finally gaining recognition for the talent that he is w/ his solo and classical stuff. Kudos to him not only for his talent, but his tenacity in never losing faith in himself and his music and continuing to create regardless of what anyone says. It's certainly paying off now.
A lot of people still remember that shitty beavis & butthead thing?.. I think they did some justice as well to such a fantastic band as the almighty WINGER! As for me (and I know I'm not the only one), I knew AC/DC & metallica, but didn't have a glimpse of what WINGER are about?! So, instead of following a whole damn herd of nobodies, I found a band who are million years ahead of the others (or haters)... WINGER!!! Since day one I'm hooked & anxiously waiting for their new music to arrive! Love you, guys!:)
Winger got a bad rap for sure! All the musicians were top notch all the time in this band! I dunno if they just didnt fire up the ol PR machine enuff but this was definitely their best album by far! Thank goodness for youtube where I can hear this great stuff whenever the mood strikes!!!
Damn this song really grows on you - has an edgy 90s sound and very catchy chorus that I like to sing along with. Is this anthem for the desolate unemployed people(like me)?
@raypowersmusic Exactly! Amen! Once they got rid of what the labels wanted, they all wrote some amazing music. Ironic that when the best music from that era was written, people were ignoring it. Winger had Pull. Warrant - Ultraphobic. Slaughter - Fear No Evil. Def Leppard - Retroactive. The list goes on and on. It is still the same today with Winger's Karma CD.
I seem to recall reading that Kip named the album "Pull" as a joke because he thought critics would easily dismiss it (i.e. use it for target practice skeet shooting style, hence pull).
winger have finished a tour from there latest album last year, unfortunatly they are unactive now =( reb beach is playing with whitesnake and kip winger is carrying on with his solo stuff, i dont know when they will be back next =(
cant beleive these guys are coming to portsmouth next year, im so shocked, dont know how much they are gonna sell cause i only know 2 or 3 people that like winger lol should hopefully be awesome, love there new album aswell =)
Yeah, think you're right about this being filmed in the Santa Fe area b/c Kip did live there at the time. However he now lives in Nashville. Hard to believe this album is 16 yrs old. These songs still hold up. The new album sounds like it might be even better - every track sounds killer...
@dedblow thanks . . . I've listened to some of the stuff from 'Pull' and it does sound for heavy than the stuff from 'Winger' & 'In the Heart of the Young'. IMO, 'Pull' deserved to sell better . . . just bad timing for when it was released (at the height of the grunge revolution)
dont see how this wasnt as successful as it should of been, i guess it was because of a certain genre of music that i really want to remain nameless lol
Funny to hear what the 80's represented called "Glam". To me glam was the Bowie\Roxy Music\bryan Ferry\Raw Power era Stooges of the 1970s. But hey, call it what you want to. I was tired of seeing Poison and Bang Tango everywhere I looked. It was marketing, much like what they did to "Southern Rock". I liked Winger, and Cinderella, a couple of others. Truth to tell, Grundge only superceded the Hair Metal stuff, NOTHING could replace it...There are as many Grundge posers as there were in Metal...
@heathen72715 That's an excellent point. God forbid you had a guitar solo comprised of more than three caustic notes. Double-kick drums were passe. A snare drum simply had to sound like an empty paint can (release the actual snare and this is done). It's like anything that was a 180 degree turn from high production and quality was cool. I had no problem with grunge bands existing (though not my thing), but to make that the only thing was unnecessary.
@raypowersmusic A-FUCKIN-MEN! Some of the best "hair metal" CDs were released in the grunge era. Winger - Pull Def Leppard - Retroactive and Slang Warrant - Ultraphobic Slaughter - Fear No Evil Danger Danger - Dawn Firehouse - 3 Timing is the key! For example, had Def Leppard released Retroactive instead of Adrenalize in 1992, it would have been HUGE. If Pull came out instead of "In the Heart of the Young," that CD would have sold like crazy.
yer it is a shame that kip was made fun of for being just a pretty boy, especially under all that talent that the band in general had and still have, its great that hes getting recogition now and i hope he goes a couple more albums with winger
@heathen72715 We should just start doing it. Growing our hair, buying 80s looking guitars, cars, promoting good music, telling everyone to join us... I do that all the time :D
@AZRacer2000 I don't think Atlantic promoted this album much at all. With the advent of grunge and the influence of stupid cartoons and a certain pathetic, pint sized drummer, they had pretty much written Winger off. I didn't even know Pull existed til a few years ago. Ironically, it's probably listened to and appreciated a lot more now than it was when it came out.
@KEYNUTT Yeah, but Def Lep just did a MONSTER sized tour & are still pulling BIG crowds as well as people killing to work with them. I LOVE Winger, but that's the truth. I wish they were bigger than they are. I hate that Beavis & Bitthead pretty much sent them to the chopping block
@heathen72715 Hey those bands are still out there. It's just that Radio Stations and JokeTV have their heads up their asses. In their minds that was 80's stuff. There are plenty of hair/glam bands out there today. I'd like some fresh blood, I love the classic bands from the 80's but some are starting to show their age. Bands like Airbourne, Pistol Dawn, Dirty Penny, Charlemagne, and Dr. Grind come to mind, They have that 80's sound.
Winger was a band I'd never heard of until 1991. I remember this well as I bought a cassette tape at a back street store in Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War. They helped me through.
How can anyone not like this song? Listen to it loud. Best vocals of the '80's and '90's.
This kind of music is makeing a comeback. The kids today are tired of the poor me life sucks image the bands today are puttin out. They want the 80' hairbands, feel good about life rock n roll music. Life is good, Should be glad to be alive people!!!!!!
A very catchy song with just the right blend of acoustic and electric geetars! One of my fave songs from Winger!
Such a kick ass song. They don't come like this anymore.
What a great song. How in the world can you put these guys down.
The quality of music died after 1993.
Timing. That's the long and short of it.
I'd argue to say that Winger, Slaughter, Warrant, Firehouse and Trixter all put out their finest material in their 1992-93 releases - dropping the glitz and adding a heavier edge.

Shame, but that was the industry.
Same here. Seems like whenever I am looking up old music (new to me) there is always one song that sticks out and I end up listening to it for week.
Love, love, love this song, it really grows on you! Can't get enough of Kip's awesome voice!
kick ass song luv Winger...one of my theme songs for me....so glad a friend shared it and now im HOOKED on it....ROCK ON!!!

one of my all time favourite Winger tunes from my favourite Winger album. I am very glad, they guys are back on the scene and doing great music again. Winger 4 started exactly where Pull ended the latest release Karma is logic next step. But Pull is still a masterpiece!

THIS SONG KICKS ASS..IN MY MIND.SOUL.BODY.CANNOT GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD EITHER!! WINGER ROCKSSS!!
Going to see Mr. Kip Winger tonight - he is a guest artist with the local Symphony!
Yeah, never got the grunge thing...to me it just meant the end of stunning, epic, superlative, shredding guitar solos...and Winger iced the cake with Reb Beach solos....so F##k me if I never fell in love with eddie vedder bellowing like a tased water buffalo..Overnight the fun metal shows became emo/smack drool " yawn-fests"
my favorite winger song. the album pull was their best.
Winger opened up a recent show with this classic. 2012 and they sounded great!
A good song is a good song forever.
A great song from the best album of their carreer.
Great song ! It was the first single from "PULL" WINGER´s third studio album, RELEASED IN 1993.
Love it....Down Incognito!!!
Def Lep,etc... might be more successful commercially, but Winger's getting the last laugh these days. this song is awesome
Winger got a bad rap for sure! All the musicians were top notch all the time in this band! I dunno if they just didnt fire up the ol PR machine enuff but this was definitely their best album by far! Thank goodness for youtube where I can hear this great stuff whenever the mood strikes!!!

Wooaw the dissonant guitar in the intro and outro sound like the beginning parts of Korn's blind haha. Could be my weird ear but sounds similar.

Damn this song really grows on you - has an edgy 90s sound and very catchy chorus that I like to sing along with. Is this anthem for the desolate unemployed people(like me)?
Great song off the album PULL. they can still Rock
@raypowersmusic Exactly! Amen! Once they got rid of what the labels wanted, they all wrote some amazing music. Ironic that when the best music from that era was written, people were ignoring it. Awesome song.Winger RULEZ!!!
Love to hear Mark Slaughter do a version of this...Nic Vocals Kip and your solo album was great too!
I seem to recall reading that Kip named the album "Pull" as a joke because he thought critics would easily dismiss it (i.e. use it for target practice skeet shooting style, hence pull).
not mentioning also that his music is much more technical but also very comercial!!!
winger have finished a tour from there latest album last year, unfortunatly they are unactive now =( reb beach is playing with whitesnake and kip winger is carrying on with his solo stuff, i dont know when they will be back next =(
Thanks for posting! Love it :)
cant beleive these guys are coming to portsmouth next year, im so shocked, dont know how much they are gonna sell cause i only know 2 or 3 people that like winger lol should hopefully be awesome, love there new album aswell =)
This must have been off of Pull in '93. Oh well. Timing is everything. Had this come out in, say, '91 it woulda sold fine.
Yeah, think you're right about this being filmed in the Santa Fe area b/c Kip did live there at the time. However he now lives in Nashville.
Hard to believe this album is 16 yrs old. These songs still hold up. The new album sounds like it might be even better - every track sounds killer...
the 80's metal bands are the best........
Most likely in New Mexico. Kip Winger lives in Santa Fe.
Brilliant
dont see how this wasnt as successful as it should of been, i guess it was because of a certain genre of music that i really want to remain nameless lol
An HD version please.
Pull has to wingers best album still..
I sing this song to bar crowds..its fun

Love This One...Used To Blast It In My Car, And Cruise!!!
@raypowersmusic A-FUCKIN-MEN! Some of the best "hair metal" CDs were released in the grunge era.
Winger - Pull
Def Leppard - Retroactive and Slang
Warrant - Ultraphobic
Slaughter - Fear No Evil
Danger Danger - Dawn
Firehouse - 3
Timing is the key! For example, had Def Leppard released Retroactive instead of Adrenalize in 1992, it would have been HUGE. If Pull came out instead of "In the Heart of the Young," that CD would have sold like crazy.
and I wish you well........................
Will Winger ever tour again?
Took all the pennies I had, threw them in the wishing well and I wish you well
Winger...where is Purple Haze ?
yer it is a shame that kip was made fun of for being just a pretty boy, especially under all that talent that the band in general had and still have, its great that hes getting recogition now and i hope he goes a couple more albums with winger
if you think the video is cool, try seeing them play it live:-)))))
I hope it does 01po01po because it's over due....
@heathen72715 We should just start doing it. Growing our hair, buying 80s looking guitars, cars, promoting good music, telling everyone to join us... I do that all the time :D
PULL would have sold 6 to 8 million if grunge and Beavis and Butthead didn't kick in. Winger would be as big as Def Leppard.
For a minute I thought this was a Slayer video (it reminded me of Dead Skin Mask)
i used to dig this track
i still dig that Ibanez
lucky Earl?
hahagagamamadadatataa
T-tops rocked!

this sounds like warrants dog eat dog album

I wish they were bigger than they are. I hate that Beavis & Bitthead pretty much sent them to the chopping block
certainly am!!!!
song has to grow on you to like it.

@wolfenburger where have you been living?
@heathen72715 Hey those bands are still out there. It's just that Radio Stations and JokeTV have their heads up their asses. In their minds that was 80's stuff. There are plenty of hair/glam bands out there today. I'd like some fresh blood, I love the classic bands from the 80's but some are starting to show their age. @raypowersmusic That was Simon Cowell
Ed wanted me to watch this video. Not sure why yet.

In My mind, they are Bigger than Def Leppard. Pull is the perfect album.
