Is this really a chain snap issue? I am still wondering why his left foot went into extended plantar flexion. Theoretically plausible if the chain was weak and snapped when he tried to force down, resulting in sudden loss of power transmission and his ankle going into forced plantar flexion resulting in such a bad fall.

It's probably chain snap because the rear derailleur went into full flex(contraction) before his ankle hyper plantar flexed and he fell down. This only happens because the chain tension is lost.
@pok1pok good eye. Had to watch it a few times to see it. Happened to me on the landing after a small jump..almost broke a rib that way.
when you decide to pump a torquey sprint but the chain snaps...bad feeling, expecially if it happens at the very start when you totally unbalance your weight distribution on the front and the bike is inclined...sure fall

I used to be arrogant like you and suffered 3 severe concussions from azzholes throwing golf balls,frozen eggs,and frozen water bottles from their vehicle and hit in the temple twice and where the spine goes into the skull once and now have permanent memory loss. it took 42 years to start wearing a helmet but I don't leave home without it.

They have to drill into my skull to relieve pressure off my brain 🧠 from a accident that my friend avoided a head on collision with a drunk driver but was ejected from the car and died and I walked away with a concussion and the POS drunk driver will serve maybe 10 years

That left ankle didn't look too comfy. You can see the derailleur snap up when the chain breaks, and his toe points down in a very unnatural way. Anterior dislocation is wicked painful.

It shouldn’t but it definitely can be snapped… It happened to me quite a few years ago with a brand new bike (no idea why, maybe badly done connection pin). It happened to Rafal Majka last year under load while he was climbing (stage 16 TDF) and he had to drop the race because of that. And it happened to this guy in almost exactly the same situation as here: th-cam.com/video/I1ufItLhKIs/w-d-xo.html (time: 9:08)… Now I’m afraid of sprinting to hard 😎.

His foot slipped and he was barely hanging on but the momentum was too much so he had a somewhat controlled drop. Doesn't look planned at all!

The motivation for my OP was remembering back as a teenager to a fall at San Onofre while riding the downhill path to the beach on a mountain bike with my short board in hand. Literally, in surf trunks, so it was like a cheese grader all over my body. Of course, I'd like to have been wearing the gear in this clip, but in trunks, even this nice fall would have been awful. One of the worst bike incidences I can remember tho 🤦

Everyone laughs at the person who fell, but no one pays attention to why he fell. According to my observation, when he was riding a bicycle, there was a sudden abnormal acceleration of the pedals. It may be that the bike was broken, or his legs were cramped, or his feet were suddenly stuck by the pedals.
