I really appreciate you clearly picking out the negatives of this purchase. You are so right: for the high prices these sets cost ... consumers deserve perfection.
Thank you so much for the support, Elizabeth! 😊 Yes, you are absolutely right! Crocheters deserve the best out of their products and tools! I feel that it is very important for everyone to know what they are purchasing, especially when the prices are so high, and I am very happy to see you agree! 😄👍 I really appreciate it!
The cords in interchangeable sets are usually measured as the length it makes with the hook attached. I'm gonna guess that this is what's going on with those cord length discrepancies.
Love this video, it's so detailed which is really important as it's such an expensive set. One note on the lengths of the cords - I believe the length, e.g. 40 inches, includes the hook/knitting needle. It's misleading but that's why the measurements are so far out. It also looks like when you order the KnitPro version (same set, but outside of the US) the hooks have the metric sizes as it's much more common over here
Thank you for watching, Lucy! I appreciate it! 😊 Hmmn...I bet they were counting the length of the hooks as well. Like you said, that is very misleading. And I wish I would’ve known about the KnitPro version because I like metric sizing on my hooks! Thank you for the helpful info, I will definitely look into it!
@@lucyhenderson6694 In my research I learned that the company brands itself as Knit Pro in EU and Knitter's Pride in North America, though the factory is in India. Same products and completely interchangeable! The one difference is with this ginger set. In the EU you don't get a 5.50 mm, but do get a 7. In the US 7s are so hard to find for some reason. EU gets 11 hooks, and NA gets 12, the difference is the 3.75 mm. Knit Picks used to be a part of the company before it was sold off, but everything by them is also compatible with Knitter's Pride and Knit Pro.
I know this was 3 years ago, but all hooks that come with cords tell you that the total length of the cords is measured with the hook fully attached. My Cliver Takumi set says the same and comes out as measured when all is connected. So not so much as misleading, as it is an over site on full information being written on the packaging. I own 1 Ginger hook and I got the Knit Pro Mindful Swivel 360 cords to go with it. I love it! It is a hybrid hook that is tapered towards the head but the head is absolutely inline with the shaft of the hook. If it was a Boye style hook ai wouldn’t be able to use it. I want to get more hooks. I find it weird that they sell the 7.0mm separately and that it isn’t offered in the set🧐
Thank you for your view and comment, Kchan! 😊 Yes! I get very picky about my hooks! (They have to be just right!) Haha! I am happy that you found it helpful!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your critique. Especially funny is the, “WHAAAT?” along with the music when mentioning knitting!!! I knit and Tunisian crochet and was like huh? 😂🙂
Extremely late reply here, but as I just found this review...I think I know what happened there. I have the Gingers interchangeable KNITTING needle set, it was the first set of knitting needles I ever owned. It's exactly this set (same case, same cords, same notions, same pen, even the range is similar - 3.25mm to 12mm) but in needles and not hooks. And it's packaged the same way with the same cardboard sleeve on the outside. Obviously they changed all the information on the sleeve to reflect crochet hooks and not knitting needles; but someone must have forgotten that the word "knitting" was included in the blurb about the Indian women.
You did an excellent job! This is exactly what I was hoping to see. Someone like myself, who notices every little detail, flaw or not. I know from personal experience what it’s like to invest in high end tools of the trade, only to be disappointed with the quality. It’s extremely frustrating when you finally make a large purchase/investment and find so many things that were misleading or misrepresented. I have the full line of Knit Picks interchangeable needles, so I have around 20 cords. I decided to purchase just one of the Ginger Tunisian hooks to see how it feels. Thank you for this detailed review ☺️
Oh, thank you so much Lindsy! 😊 I am glad you enjoyed my review! Yes, many times I purchase crochet related tools and sets that I have high hopes for, but many times it turns out they aren’t worth it! I won’t give up though! I’m still on the search for the worlds best crochet hook set! 😂 Thank you for your support!
Stop with all the moaning and complaining. Considering you are all about handmade you moan and complain about a handmade product. Also you completely missed the meaning of the message on the sleeve. You really need to realise how lucky and fortunate you are.
Thank you Crochet Critic for such a thorough review! I'm a crocheter and have only dabbled with Tunisian crochet but would like to do more and am looking for a versatile set of crochet/Tunisian hooks. After your review I will keep shopping because I was very disappointed with Knitters Pride smarmy packaging of being sustainable. Their "vegan" case is plastic! How sustainable is that? Not turning down a smile or a young girl/woman from working - for what, pennies a day?!! Clearly there's minimal craftsmanship in their product but with a hefty price tag. The choices can be limited to the crafting world when it comes to ethical &/or sustainable products and may not be an important factor to many, but it is to me & was delighted by the time you took with your very detailed insight to the product AND its packaging! I understand ethical & sustainable supplies & suppliers is not your platform, but anytime you could include it would be a bonus, or at least keep showing those little details in packaging & craftsmanship as you did for KP's product for those of us who find this important when searching reviews would be awesome. Keep up the great work & best of luck to you & your channel!
Thank you for your comment, Monarae! I very much appreciate it! 😊 Yes, truly sustainable crochet tools and accessories are very important to me as well. Like you said, it is extremely difficult to find sustainable crafting tools and supplies, but I am constantly on the lookout for them! I will include this type of information in my reviews from now on in case others are interested as well. 😄
Thank you for the real review. Im gonna keep looking cuz id snap those so fast. I crochet tight (not on purpose, i use crochet to control stress and depression) so ill keep looking hehe
one way to solve the elastic issue is to shift all the hooks leftward and put the pen where the 12mm hook used to be. Stop making a fuss about the label, as Knitter's Pride and Knit Pro primary products is knitting needles. So that is what they meant. the cable length includes the hook.
Well, it's obviously a joke. I already know Knitter's Pride is obviously a knitting company...their name isn't Crocheter's Pride haha But...if a company sells both knitting and crochet products, then they should technically know the difference 😂
Thank you so much for the thorough review! I thought about buying this set but I can't get past that the hooks do not have millimeters, the length of the heads and the poor qualities of the connections. 🇨🇦😊
Thank you for your comment, Rachel! 😊 Yes, it's a beautiful set, but some aspects of it are just too annoying to deal with! I still use my set often, but I get frustrated! 😂 I appreciate your feedback as well, and I'm happy you agree with me! (I've never had a comment from Canada! Wow! Thank you!)
This is a very good review, so thank you for the time you put into it. I'm so sorry that your set was so flawed - you are right: for that kind of money, the set should be as advertised, and fully functional. I purchased this set from Amazon in Jan. 2021, and didn't have the issues that you mentioned, so I'm grateful for that. The pen writes very well (and I'm picky about pens!), though I'm not sure the cartridge is replaceable. I was disappointed, too, to see that the mm notation is not included not the hooks because the Ad indicates that it is. I find it curious that US 7 hook has no letter (not a problem, just curious), and that the largest hook is ONLY marked in mm - "12.0mm". I also found it odd that the 7.0mm and 7.5mm hooks don't exist in this set. Does ANY set have them? Again, just curious. My hooks are 6" from tip to tip, the hook itself is crazy-deep and not easy to maneuver in and out of stitches, so that's a learning curve. The measuring of cords is forever a mystery to me, and I don't understand the "the measurement includes the needle/hook" because my needles are different lengths, too. I have some Knit Picks Short Interchangeables, and those are 2.75" tip to tip, so what do you do that THAT? Anyway, as for cords, I got 4 of them (that's what the description on Amazon said as well): 1X-15"; 2x-23" and 1x-32". Add a 6" hook to those, and you get a 21", a two 29" and one 38". It's not a huge problem for me in deciding which to use for a project, but I sure wish these manufacturers would develop a standard. If you say it's a 16" cord, then give me a 16" cord so that no matter what size needle/hook I use, I have a 16" cord. Really - how hard would that be?
I would contact the company about the issues with the case and complain about the problems as you indicated in your review. Thank you for your honest review of all items.
Thank you very much, Pam! I am so glad you enjoyed the review! You are right, hopefully Knittter’s Pride will fix these problems for people in the future if I email them directly. I think I will, thank you for the advice. 😊
Great review!! Thanks so much! I bought the Knitters Pride Dreamz set and although I like the hooks themselves I'm really not happy about the connections. They all seem to go on the cable just fine but some of the metal parts on the hooks are a little bent. Kinda like they weren't glued on to the hook right. I'm saving up to try a different brand. Maybe the Chiaogoo ones. As for things to review...hmmm...how do you feel about reviewing some patterns or books? Thanks again for the great review and Happy Thanksgiving.
Thank you, Tracy! I am so happy you enjoyed the review! 😊 Yes, Knitters Pride has beautiful hooks, but they desperately need to work on their tunisian connections. It can really make or break a crochet hook set! I agree! I have tons of crochet books and patterns to check out, I will try to incorporate more of that into my upcoming videos! Thank you for the suggestion and support, it is much appreciated! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family too! 🦃😄
Thank you, spiritsjoy! I appreciate your comment, and yes I am saving up to review a Lykke set too - I like the denim blue hook set! Let me know if you get yours!
Yes, exactly! Honestly, I still do not use them. They are a part of my collection but I never use them...at all, which is sad! Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it!😄
I think they're measuring the cords with the hooks on. That's how they do it with the needles. Thanks for the review. That connector issue isn't serious. They need to replace that hook ASAP.
I just boxed my set up to return. I was also very unhappy the metric measurements weren't there. My elastic was good, but the shortest cord had a kink/bump that caught the yarn I used with a little metallic thread. The second hook I tried had a strangely long/sharp lip that wanted to cut into and catch stitches as I tried to release them. Those stitch markers were some of the consistently nicest things in the set... But aren't those for knitting? If you used that on crochet it would be stuck on your project forever, right? Am I missing something? The case was gorgeous, but my label was crooked too! It was mostly very functional, (one snap was very difficult to close, but once I got it, it was closed TIGHT) and the design was nice. I paid about $130 on Etsy from a seller near me, but as I said, I'm returning it. Even for $100, that set should be perfect... I could see one small flaw... MAYBE 2.... But flaw after flaw after flaw? And some were not small ones either! I wanted to love these, especially with the nicely pointed head. I adore my Denise hooks, but they're way too short and hurt my hands after a short time working.... I had really hoped this was my solution, but it seems not. :(
Katy, I feel your pain. I too wanted to love this set. It was such a disappointment to find all of the problems with mine, and I am sad to see that others are having similar issues. Yes, you should definitely return it! I thought $100 was pricey for me, but you paid $30 more than I did, so that set should have been immaculate! And yes, I was confused by the stitch markers as well, but when using the hooks for Tunisian crochet, you mark your stitches by sliding the markers onto your hook at the spot you want to mark. Then, on your return pass, before yarning over, you remove they yarn from your hook and remove the marker from your hook, then put your yarn back on and continue your return pass. Soon, I will get my set out and make a short video to show how to use them! Thank you for your comment, Katy! I really appreciate it and I am happy to see I'm not the only one experiencing this issue, thank you for sharing with me! 😊
I bought my mom one, and we were trying to figure out the mm, cause she threw away the wrapping, and what we figured was supposed to be the 8mm, which was the L, was actually a 9 mm, which is the M. They gave her 2 size M hooks, and labelled one an L. So maybe measure yours if you still have it just to make sure.
Thanks for your comment, Linda! I am currently on the hunt for more Tunisian hooks as well. Which brands are most interesting to you? I will try to do some research on them and try to review them! 😊
