Scorch n Torch doesn't play in a Volcano, it plays during a forest fire. Which is why it sounds almost desperate at some points.

Sorry to be tardy to the party, but it really shows how much thought and care went into the level design.
First level was a paradise in the savanna then later a thunderstorm/hurricane passes through which causes the aftermath in Scorch and Torch.

Context for Horn Top Hop: In the background there are owls in the background blowing into horns to the music which affect the level.

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is one of the best 2D platformers ever made. I have played it through 6 times and never get bored

If you listen to more Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, you should check out Seashore War. It's the composer's favorite track that he's ever written.

Me who grew up playing DKC2: Let me tell you a story about a monkey and his helicopter girlfriend!
Homecoming Hijink is the first level of the game's last world, which I believe is like a harder, condensed recreation of the entire previous game, but frozen over, with each level corresponding to an entire world from Returns. At the start of Tropical Freeze, the Kongs are kicked off their island by a group that's all about making things cold, and most of the game is spent just getting back.
Along the way there's a lot of cool stuff the devs did from a thematic standpoint. I think each world features some manner of thematic progression as you go from one level to the next. For example, Scorch n Torch takes place in the game's savannah area during a wildfire. During the final leg of the previous level, which takes place during a storm, lightning starts becoming a problem, so it can be surmised that that same lightning caused the wildfire.
My favorite example of this thematic progression idea is the game's fifth world. One of the members of the group who kicked the Kongs out has turned a section of jungle into his own personal juicing facility, where he has large amounts of fruit picked, processed, and juiced, and then has the juice stored and consumed as is, or turned into jellies and frozen treats. Each level in the fifth world has scenery, platforms, and obstacles that fit with the theme of whatever stage in the processing the level is about, whether it be a means of harvesting, processing, or even just seeing the various finished products. Punch Bowl is actually that world's boss level, and if I recall correctly the cutscene that plays before you fight the boss sees him enjoying some of the fruits of his minions' labor.
I don't know how you choose the songs of the games, but the fact that Seashore War was missed is criminal.

I will always speak the good word of Donkey Kong and David Wise, might be one of the most unstoppable forces in video game music. Game is definitely more difficult but the music really helps to tell the story of the levels as you play them. Glad to throw my hat in the ring and give recommendations again!!

This in my opinion is the best soundtrack of all time. Every theme goes so unfathomably hard and is full of that classic David Wise style but in a much more modern and experimental way than the SNES DKC Trilogy's soundtracks (which are all also amazing)
Scorch 'N' Torch is a song that hit me a lot, that song i can see like "a cry of Nature to get revenge in the night"
There's GOTTA be a part 2 for this. This whole OST is incredible. If you do revisit this, I cannot recommend Busted Bayou, Big Top Bop, Windmill Hills and Volcano Dome enough.

Tropical Freeze is one of, if not the best 2D platformers ever made. It's an INCREDIBLE experience from start to finish. Glad to see you vibing with this incredibly constructed soundtrack!
Another game track you should check out is Hi-Fi Rush's OST, btw! Some absolutely INCREDIBLE songs on there.
Punch Bowl plays when you fighting a big angry Polar Bear with a hammer in the game, can you imagine how tense it can be?

It’s a shame she doesn’t have context for scorch n torch. For reference, scorch n torch is the the same savannah from grassland groove during a wildfire, so you can picture the flute at the end of the loop as a sort of cry of pain.
"SO MUCH HAPPENING IN BLURRY FLURRY" I will say that i pick out these songs, this is the Rocket Barrel theme for the game. You appreciate the tiny details a lot
I feel like if any soundtrack deserves a second listen, this is it. Most of these tracks are just such a nice vibe.
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze has one of the best soundtracks Nintendo has ever put out.
David Wise (composer of DK) is a genius and loves his flutes.
I HIGHLY recommend to listen to some of the rest of the soundtrack, especially some of the more relaxed songs like Twilight Terror or Amiss Abyss.
Everything in this soundtrack is gold.

IIRC, this game's soundtrack was a pretty big deal back when the game came out because it was the first time David Wise had done music for a Donkey Kong game in about a decade.

Irate eight is a manic underwater chase as you swim for your life to the top of the ocean before a giant octopus named squiddicus (I know) tries to consume you in the murky depths.

As soon as I saw this video I went so monke you'd think I was auditioning to be DK's new VA. So excited to see you reacting to this soundtrack.

This is my all time favorite video game ost and I'm so glad you chose this game to sample music from! This is only scratching the surface of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze-- the entire soundtrack is amazing, and I hope you consider a part 2 sometime!
I hope you also consider other games in the Donkey Kong Country series because they are really amazing too. If you ever wanted to try something different for a video, you could consider doing a comparison of soundtracks, like Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country Returns, since the latter used a lot of the original themes from the former but changed them up a bit.
Damn, no Big Top Bop? The final boss theme that’s as accidentally used for the first boss…Punch Bowl is also a banger, but I’m more of a Big Top Bop guy.
My absolute favorite song is the somg used in the trailer it has a similar theme to homecoming hijinx but its just more.

You should listen to the original dkc trilogy osts. So many iconic themes were created from these games in the SNES era, wnd still sound great almost 30 years later.

Right away, Horn Top Hop sounds folk song-y. I haven't listened to it all the way through, but the vibe of the opening bit of it felt really strongly of that sort of vibe.
You absolutely have to listen to the DKC soundtracks from the SNES games, especially 1 and 2 they have phenomenal soundtracks

Pity my personal favourite, “seashore war” didn’t make the cut… it’s beautiful
The context for Punch Bowl: DK and co land on a giant ice sheet floating in the center of some grape juice lake while a Polar Bear was eating his icy pop. The landing causes the bear to drop his pop into the water where piranhas ate it, and the Polar Bear attacks the Kongs in a Boss Battle.

I really like the original Donkey Kong Country games (1, 2, 3) for the Super Nintendo and their soundtrack. A pick of a few great songs: Stickerbush Symphony, Mining Melancholy, Aquatic Ambience, Hot Head Bop, and Rockface Rumble.

tropical freeze is an absolute masterpiece of a soundtrack, I'd highly recommend you do a part 2. david wise is an insane composer.
I will say, some of the picks here are a bit surprising. like, why'd they pick irate eight chase and blurry flurry? they're not bad or anything, but I'd say those two aren't on the level of the rest of the soundtrack.
I feel like funky waters or irate eight tension would have been better for world 4, and for world 6, seashore war is the must listen.
but I guess that's just all the more reason to do a part 2.
Blurry flurry isn't the boss theme its a rocket barrel song I think they are the best types of songs

This franchise is known for its fun gameplay and amazing music! Shame that Nintendo seems to forgotten all about DK.. Instead, they just keep on shitting out mediocre Pokémon games and boring Pikmin games :/. Oh well.
Pikmin hasn't had a new mainline game in ten years though lol, I don't think it deserves to be lumped in with Pokemon
Also to be fair Nintendo's not fully the people who are in charge of Pokemon. They make up part of The Pokemon Company, but Pokemon is more of its own thing than people give it credit for
