Thanks for the compliment. I do have to admit that I enjoy all the makes of trucks from that era including the GM's. Clean old Iron catches my eye no matter what
Your primary carburator throttle are feading cylinder 1 to 3, secondary 4 to 6. I know that´s the only way you can place the carb over the manifold or 180 degrees around. I modified mine 90 degrees so primary are closer to the engine, just like Offenhauser clams to set up the carbs.
I agree. Many videos show these carbs mounted incorrectly. Perhaps they are thinking about working on a V-8. Although I used a Holley 2 barrel, same concept. Throttles are inline with engine and centered over the plenum.
I'm doing a 4R70W in my 77 carbureted. Has lower gear ratios and is tunable. I don't mess with AODs anymore. I think the AOD will bog the engine down because it shifts too soon.
Stay away from EFI unless you have deep pockets, the computers on them are trash, capacitors leak out and damage the boards, OBD1 is a mechanics nightmare, many electronic switches, rarely show failure with a code scan, so it becomes a replace parts till it runs right
@@Maples01 What about the ODD2 EIF on a 96 4.9. ? I just bought a 96 and plan on putting the motor in my 1955 F100 and use the EIF and engine wiring harness. Just desmog it.
@@Wayz5145 My friend bought a 96 E150 handicap equipped, he put over 400,000 miles on it, that is why I got this one. The 96 has the ignition mounted on a heat sink on the fender away from the distributor, but you can't change the fact the capacitors in the ECM are old and either will have failed, or be ready to, get them replaced, have a restriction plate made for the EGR, you don't want to remove it, just limit the gasses going through, throttle body gaskets are only good for 30,000 miles then they crack and get sucked in, either replace the injectors or have them sonic cleaned, and this engine uses the highest fuel pressure, its to combat vapor lock as the exhaust is by the intake, so it cycles the fuel quickly through the rails to keep it cool, 55PSI is normal, low pressure pump in the tank, collector on the rail followed by a high pressure pump. Remove the smog rail, the plug need be machine thread, not pipe thread, plug up the head, there are available heads without the smog holes, be sure to leak down test it first to look for burnt valve, or valve leaking, I'm still fighting to keep mine running in gear, no vacuum leak found, could be internal like a valve.
Did the full clifford kit on mine recently, comes with an offy intake as well. You were saying that you were able to set fuel air mixure screws to the right place with this carb? The 2bbl webber carb they sent works well, but even with my mixture screws set in all the way it still runs a little bit rich. Not sure what Id need to do for jetting to fix that, might just go with a new carb at some point.
yeah its been mentioned already but this is a dual plane manifold isnt it? or does does offenhauser make 2 diifinline 6 intakes? if its the dual plane , you have your carb 90 degrees out of phase and are basically running 3 cylinders on the larger ports and 3 cylinders on the smaller ports Probly not ideal Your secondaries should both be feeding the larger ports and main 2 bbls feed the 2 smaller ports
@@rumrivertriples4073 Yes, the northern.midwest accent. I wonder how a 4.9L running on propane would do. They certainly run clean with no fouling of plugs. They run better with high compression pistons or head decking to raise the compression. Seeing the specs on the Honda GX NG Civic they had compression ratios of 12.5:1. Propane should work pretty well unless its gets SUPER, SUPER COLD liquefies @ -44°F. Natural gas isn't as available as propane. Hard to get a hold of out on the interstates. Fed gov't has a website about this stuff on fueleconomy.gov. alt fuels.
I’ve been interested in a setup like this for a while but now it’s a reality as my old carb is beginning to leak causing my motor not to start as well as the fact that it runs too rich and fouled plugs after only 2500 on my rebuild. Anyway that’s all beside the point. I am going to order and use the same parts, (intake, carb, exhaust manifold) as you did. I shouldn’t need any other items to complete this other then new manifold mounting hardware and gaskets, an air cleaner, and a spacer plate to go between the carb and intake correct? Also did you run into any complications with your installation? Awesome truck I hope to have a similar running engine soon!
The ford 300 engine has the temp sender below the intake/exhaust manifolds, towards the back of the engine. It's a pita to get there if everything is assembled. You can see it from below the truck.
I'm building one now..... IS THERE A ONE STOP SHOP... that carries all the inline 300 parts... ( I'm having a hell of a time😨) Got an 84 manual F150 step side..
Summit racing has most of it but I've heard the Offy intakes have been on back order for a while. There are smaller parts that have to come from various specialty vendors like the heat plate (Raso) and some of the other do-dads
Thanks for the video XC. I'm doing this intake conversion right now on my '86 and wondering a couple things: 1. What size carb spacer did you use? 2. Do you have a link or part # for the throttle linkage set up you used? Thanks for your time.
Soren, glad you liked it and found value in the video. I used a 1" thick 4-hole spacer from Summit as well as PN: DP-1000U for my Lokar throttle cable and bracket. Hope this helps. Thanks
Could you tell me a little more about the heat plate to warm the manifold? From what I read online that is a concern when switching to this intake because the exhaust manifold doesn’t heat the intake. Thanks
It is from RASO enterprises. It allows the coolant from the heater hoses to run against the bottom of the intake and warm it up more quickly/consistently. Seems to work well as the drivability seems better in those first few miles after cold startups
Rum River Triples Gotcha. So basically just helps everything warm up a little quicker. I do greatly appreciate the response. I’m am planning on running an almost identical set up and am using your video as a sort of guide to try and wrap my head around where all of my hoses will be going and what gets shit canned. Thanks again.

@@connected6782 yes, I did end up buying the SL-450-VS Quick Fuel carb from Summit. When I installed it I realized the carb had been sitting backward on the Dual Port Offy intake. The primaries need to face the valve cover on the 300 I6, which makes the throttle face the firewall. That posed another problem for me because I couldn’t get to the throttle cable to route right. The heater box was in the way. Ended up buying the Offy C-Series intake and everything lined out nicely. And man what difference! She’s straight butta now. I did have to adjust timing to get the right idle. But that’s because the guy had it way advanced!!
Beautiful pickup and a helpful video! I am going to try your set up in my 1968. I have a question unrelated to the video topic. I noticed your upper radiator hose enters the radiator on the passenger side. Does your lower radiator hose also hook to the radiator on the passenger side? Do you know your top and bottom radiator hose sizes? Sorry to be a bother, but I am struggling to find a decent radiator for my 1968 and I was thinking about shopping for 1979 components instead. I might share my email if you respond. Have a great day!
Hey there, I don't have my truck near me right now, but it does have a passenger side lower radiator hose based on digging through some of my older photos. Unfortunately I don't have a good way to measure the hose sizes for you at this time.
I'm on the fence myself between 460 or dropping a 300 six I have all the bolt Ons what is your rear gear ratio ?? 4 on the floor non/overdrive? And what's your fuel economy? Mix? and hwy like 60 mph? Mine is a 79 f250 354 rear gear's w/460.
If you do the 460, they aways run hotter in the summer and need a starter cover to keep your starter from heat, 10 mpg 4.9 may be a lot slower bet it pulls great for use 15 17 mpg and run forever
@@chrish5096 you can use either one on the single plane, but if you use a dual plane, it’s better to run the four hole ( just my opinion) BTW, I would recommend turning your carburetor perpendicular to the engine… especially if using a dual plane intake.

@@deadcarnahans1932 I believe the offy intake is a dual plane setup and the user must align the carb primaries with the intake primaries.. Sry for the shit explanation, maybe someone will clarify..
Fair question. I spoke to several inline 6 enthusiasts who had a distaste for the DP manifold on anything beyond a stock rebuild that was mileage focused. I chose the "C" manifold so I'd have an improvement over stock when used as-is, but have room to grow if I ever decide to fully build the rest of the engine down the road.
I like it. The dual port would have very likely been better for me since the rest is still stock but I wanted room to grow in case I did a ported head/cam/turbo/etc. down the road
I'm almost done with my 1994 4.9 conversion from EFI to carburetor. I have the same intake and carburetor but my question is what type of spacer did you use? I currently have a 1 inch with a 4 hole bore and it's not working.
Why is it not working? Will not fit physically? Or engine will not run properly? I used four hole spacer under my 2V carb after cutting out the four holes and blending it well. Works fine.
@@deadcarnahans1932 I'm not really sure, I pulled the 4 hole spacer and put an aluminum square bore spacer and it helped. It's a new carburetor but I think it's a bad one. The accelerator pump was leaking and I fixed that with a new diaphragm. It has an acculink tps mounted on the throttle linkage side with a 24 inch lokar cable that all seem to be working. I checked the fuel pressure as I'm stepping down from an EFI fuel pump. The regulator is set at 6.5 and has a return relieving the excess fuel back to the tank. Both bowl levels are about half way and now the vacuum secondary is leaking down the plunger shaft. I think I'm just going to return the quick fuel carb and get a Holley.

2 barrel carbs need to be installed perpendicular to the engine, otherwise you don't spread the fuel on both sides of the offy plenum on idle and as a result 3 cylinders get more or less fuel. That was probably your issue. 4yrs later you probably know that now. Lol

did you know that inline 6 can make it past 480000mi
in a 1982 econoline it has but right now is finally getting some well deserved TLC
They certainly can last a long time but that is like ten lifetimes for this truck. Fair weather driver mainly.
Awesome truck and clean work.
I think that QFT carb is a good choice. Nice.
Nice truck I have a 78 f150 Ranger xlt flare side 4x4 highboy with a 460 built up to a 514. Keep the old trucks going because the new ones are junk.
Very nice! Want to trade engines? Ha
@@rumrivertriples4073 you can build one you need a 1971 Lincoln block D1VE is the beginning of the block number. But when I go out to my garage I'll let you know what books to buy because it tells how to build one. I never built a engine in my life and I went by these books and it works great. But start looking for the that block first. There worth about$1000.00 dollars. But make sure it has the block number or it won't work.
@@staggdegraaff1531 thanks Stagg, no worries though. I'm familiar with that engine family and already have a plan for how I'd build one, just a matter of not wanting to spend the money on the swap at the moment. Lots of other projects and the F250 is a great reliable cruiser at the moment
@@Faber-cator why swap out the more economical I6? There really is compelling reason at this point beyond a desire for a more fun driving experience. Like I mentioned I've got enough projects to keep me busy so this will likely stay as-is for a long while.
I have an 84 ford bronco XLT I believe it's this engine definitely a inline 6 looks alot like trying to find parts new to work on cars got it as a project car any help is welcome!!! Beautiful truck btw
If it's the original engine in that year Bronco it'd be the same basic engine. Lots of info out there on the inline 6 forums.
Do the ignition she if fixes the stumble
Electric Choke that's switched on with ignition switch? get an oil pressure switch that's normally open (no pressure) and wire that ignition source to it and then the choke. then choke activates only when engine is running. some OEM's used the alternator stator to power the choke though it is a lower voltage and electric choke needs to be made for it. anyway, small detail on a nice truck!
Looks great. Keep up the good work.
❤❤ Really nice
Nice job,enjoyed your video.
Thanks for the comment, glad you liked it!
Beautiful job dude
Hello, I love the build and your truck, very clean! I have a 1980 F-150 with the same engine that was given to me by my grandfather before he passed away. I want to keep it going but add a little power and help it run smoother. I'd like to chat with you about your setup and possibly ask where you got your parts so I can order them and start building this. Please let me know if this is something you'd be willing to share with me. Thank you :)
You bet Ryan, if you're on IG look my up: @Rum_River_Triples
Kick over a message, I'd be happy to help any way I can
I have a 65 f100 i put the head from 240 I6 RV cam 450 double Pumper with the long tube headers
Love your truck no chebby crap there.
Been loking for same setup BUT with a EFI and AOD, would sure like to build such but would like to see others info
Not sure what Id need to do for jetting to fix that, might just go with a new carb at some point.
yeah its been mentioned already but this is a dual plane manifold isnt it? or does does offenhauser make 2 diifinline 6 intakes?
if its the dual plane , you have your carb 90 degrees out of phase and are basically running 3 cylinders on the larger ports and 3 cylinders on the smaller ports
Probly not ideal
Your secondaries should both be feeding the larger ports and main 2 bbls feed the 2 smaller ports
no, this is the type "C" manifold. the carb orientation doesnt matter on this one. yes, offy makes 2 diff intakes for the i6
I couldn't hear the maker of the heat shield you said you used? Truck looks great by the way!
Raso enterprise
Great Video. Thanks!
Hi. So the big question i have and did not see. Do you notice any performance increase after the intake/carb swap?
what is the part number for the lokar throttle cable and for the bracket
I need to know as well
Must be Minnesota or Wisconsin, cant do that in California, sadly.
Did my accent give it away?
Ironically, the truck runs cleaner and gets better mileage now than it did when it was completely stock.
What adapter did you use?
Great vid. Do you know where 1978 ford f100 temperature sensor connector is located going into the firewall?
The ford 300 engine has the temp sender below the intake/exhaust manifolds, towards the back of the engine. It's a pita to get there if everything is assembled. You can see it from below the truck.
you may have found it by now, but for others wondering, it is located in the wiring loom on DS by brake booster/master
I like that!
Beautiful setup my friend, what adapter or spacer did you use ?
WOW what sweet truck 👍
I have1986 f150 shortbed with a inline 6, one day I will have my truck clean as yours!
I love it! Where did you get the valve cover breather cap?
Pretty sure it came from Summit. It was quite a while ago so I'd really have to dig for the part number though
@@rumrivertriples4073 ever find the part number
@@FramebyOliver unfortunately I did not find it in my order history but I can try again soon to find it.
I'm building one now.....
IS THERE A ONE STOP SHOP... that carries all the inline 300 parts...
( I'm having a hell of a time😨)
Got an 84 manual F150 step side..
Summit racing has most of it but I've heard the Offy intakes have been on back order for a while. There are smaller parts that have to come from various specialty vendors like the heat plate (Raso) and some of the other do-dads
How did you move the transmission dipstick tube and put on the intake manifold
TURBO! Very nice truck!
Thank you! I'll turbo it when my TH-cam channel pays for it ha!
Turbo is why I went EFI.... years ago and am still saving for the turbo :L
Actually need some help converting mine from efi to carb and ideas
could you tell me where i can find the intake manifold you used here. Thanks AJ
beautiful
Thank you
Love the video
Thanks. Nice work.
Thanks
@@rumrivertriples4073 Awesome! Thanks my friend. Best to you and yours.
I'd install a Holly 400cc EFI carb kit with headers.
I have the same setup in an 85 F-150 that someone cobbled together, sans the carb. I think Frankenstein put a 70’s marine Holley on the Offenhauser. Is your carb the QFT-SL-450-VS? I want to order one and see if it makes a difference on my set up.
Did you figure out which carb? I'm trying to order one for the same setup.
But that’s because the guy had it way advanced!!
did you ever have to change jets or powervalve?
Beautiful pickup and a helpful video! I am going to try your set up in my 1968. I have a question unrelated to the video topic. I noticed your upper radiator hose enters the radiator on the passenger side. Does your lower radiator hose also hook to the radiator on the passenger side? Do you know your top and bottom radiator hose sizes? Sorry to be a bother, but I am struggling to find a decent radiator for my 1968 and I was thinking about shopping for 1979 components instead. I might share my email if you respond. Have a great day!
Hey there,
I don't have my truck near me right now, but it does have a passenger side lower radiator hose based on digging through some of my older photos. Unfortunately I don't have a good way to measure the hose sizes for you at this time.
I have a 67 that I'm building. Did you get your radiator figured out?
I'm on the fence myself between 460 or dropping a 300 six I have all the bolt Ons what is your rear gear ratio ?? 4 on the floor non/overdrive? And what's your fuel economy? Mix? and hwy like 60 mph? Mine is a 79 f250 354 rear gear's w/460.
If you do the 460, they aways run hotter in the summer and need a starter cover to keep your starter from heat, 10 mpg 4.9 may be a lot slower bet it pulls great for use 15 17 mpg and run forever
Nice ford ...show quality .,
Oh yeah, one more question: Did you use a 4 hole or open spacer?
Soren Tay yes I would like to know this aswell
@@chrish5096 you can use either one on the single plane, but if you use a dual plane, it’s better to run the four hole ( just my opinion) BTW, I would recommend turning your carburetor perpendicular to the engine… especially if using a dual plane intake.
Nice truck. 👍
i have this same setup on my 84 f350 dually. its runnin like crap, tho.. idk if i have vac leaks or what.. in all fairness, its a pretty worn out motor
I want to know why some prefer to mount carb North South vs East West.
My throttle shaft is parallel to my crankshaft. Rus great.
@@deadcarnahans1932 I believe the offy intake is a dual plane setup and the user must align the carb primaries with the intake primaries.. Sry for the shit explanation, maybe someone will clarify..
6:53 *snicker*
I'm curious as to why you used the C (Competition) series Offy intake, rather than the 6019-DP Dual Port Offy intake?
Fair question. I spoke to several inline 6 enthusiasts who had a distaste for the DP manifold on anything beyond a stock rebuild that was mileage focused. I chose the "C" manifold so I'd have an improvement over stock when used as-is, but have room to grow if I ever decide to fully build the rest of the engine down the road.
beatifull
You never started it😮
How about a vid of it running?
I'll try getting a video next time I drive it
Does it get any better mileage with the new carburetor and intake.
@@willwalker5594 I have not done a good mileage check yet, but I suspect it will be better than before. It was pig rich before and never "right".
Do you happen to have the part numbers or links the the throttle cable extension and linkage you used?
I posted in the comments of one of these videos. I can dig around and throw it in the description
Looks like DP-1000U is the throttle cable and bracket I used from Lokar. The firewall bracket is factory.
Nice truck. How are you liking the single plane? I want to do this to my truck but read the dual port offy is better for stock RPM applications.
@@leonardgriffin8951 Let me ask this. What transmission are you running? You mentioned the Acculink TPS. I have the same on mine for my 4R70W. I assume you have an aftermarket controller for your transmission.
Glad to hear it. I would change my 1990 6 cylinder to a carburetor if I could afford it so I have to deal with the BS and all the sensors and whatever. I wished I bought an older one.
Love your truck! I have a 79 F100 with the same motor. Did yours have a smog pump? Mine currently does but want to got to the Offenhauser setup and am not sure if I can delete it.
Mine did have the smog air injection pump. You will have to check with your local regulations on whether it is required to retain the OEM emissions equipment to stay in compliance.
I actually checked out the local laws and I do not have to have the truck smog tested. With that said, what exactly needs to be removed and do I need to cap or run anything different once it is removed?.
My 78,300ci F-150 did not pass visual inspection, smog guy said the egr valve is missing.it never had one when I got the truck,it's federal and manufactured in canada.how can I prove it to the smog guy?
@@jerrychacon8814 hard saying. Luckily we aren't subject to smog checks where I am.
@@rumrivertriples4073 I did find out were it says if your truck has an EGR or not, on my federal 1978 F series and most trucks there's an emissions sticker on the valve cover, I didn't notice it before as part of the top of the decal was missing, and dirty.mine only says engine:300ci . If you do have an EGR it will specify EGR. Also if your smog guy has older smog test manuels as one smog guy showed me theres no EGR test for my federal f150.

2 barrel carbs need to be installed perpendicular to the engine, otherwise you don't spread the fuel on both sides of the offy plenum on idle and as a result 3 cylinders get more or less fuel. That was probably your issue. 4yrs later you probably know that now. Lol
Left out on idling stumbles.
