    The SMS 2-factor authentication can also be broken.
    I remember a video Linus posted a while back (1-2 years ago) where he had one or more accounts hacked.
    The hacker basically went into his carrier's store, pretended to be him and requested a replacement SIM card which not only helped at 2-factor authentication, but also changing the passwords in the first place. Quite clever.

      Avoid all IoT bullshit and you are more protected. Also the key to your network protection is to secure your router - use stronger password, control the traffic on your router, adjust firewall settings etc. It is a bit more advanced stuff but you never know how the next attack can be perpetrated. If you have something valuable to lose then it is better to be safe than sorry. Prefer direct cable connections to Wi-Fi ones. Since technical protection measures are quite good hackers usually prefer to go the social engineering route which is 90% more effective hacking technique than brute forcing a technical one.

    Here's some REAL advice:
    1. Use Linux. Even better, enable SELinux and Multi-level Security. If you do not want this to be on your main PC, set this up on another PC as a firewall
    2. Use a VPN (paid or not doesn't really matter unless you're privacy conscious)
    3. Use SSH keys instead of passwords when possible. Avoid password managers.
    4. Add _nomap to the end of your router's SSID (stops google maps from tracking your IP)
    5. Use Tor. If you're on Linux, make sure that your repositories are being updated/upgraded through the Tor network

    I have thought about this. When you are online programs/cookies/spyware track everything you do there is almost no way around this unless you stop going online. What would happen if you created a program that spammed randomly generated fake information (like non-flaggable sentences) online in google searches for instance to make 99% of everything on your profile fake. How would these programs be able to determine whats fake and what's real? I mean companies collect as much information about peoples habits as they can to create an accurate profile on that person, to know them inside and out would they still be able to do that if you fed that process with fake stuff? Granted doing this would definitely flag you for suspicious behavior sooner or later but it would be an interesting thing to experiment with, anonymity by information overload.

I have since turned off the autosynch option on my smartphone, but it really made me think about how easily that little option can be exploited to really screw up a lot of peoples devices & their sensitive info on them.

      Cause he's right. Those steps help you not them: two factor authentication, calling the company before relying to a phishing message improve your condition not hacker's

    • @akhyarrayhka4048
      @akhyarrayhka4048 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alessandro Zanardi thats how they want you to think to make them easier accessing your info, you need to authorize twice, one to actually login and twice is to grant them access. Stay awake people you're all brainwashed.
