Yeah Tupac was a bigger star than anyone on Death Row. Those beats got far more exposure than what they would have gotten. First album after being released from prison, you knew it was gonna be huge

I’m 54…Roger Troutman came out with his version of California Love in the 80s. Which is why he was in the video. Dr Dre put his spin on it by adding BASS to it and brought Tupac in to complete his creative vision. Even though Dre and Tupac made this my All Time favorite still to this day CREDIT HAS TO BE GIVEN to the original creator of California Love which is Joe Cocker who originally came out with California Love in the 70s.
Let me give you some info: woman to woman by Joe cocker. THAT is the original beat ultramagnetic mcs used it for funky remix. Roger Troutman took pieces from Westcoast pop lock by ronnie hudson for the hook. So let's be clear: when we are speaking about black music particularly on the internet, let's not speak so matter of factly when you are truly devoid of actual facts..you do a disservice to the legendary names associated with this banger...respectfully speaking

Dope clip. For the record: Can't C Me goes back to 1993, when the production was originally created. Dre produced that production, not Daz. Dre had it first for his project Helter Skelter with Ice Cube and it features George Clinton on it. That project never came up, so Dre gave the production to Tha Dogg Pound and their exist but, didn't make the final cut for Dogg Food because they wanted to establish Daz as a producer. Although Dre didn't produce anything on the Dogg Food album, Dre mixed that album. Hints why that album sonically still sound somewhat like Dre produced some of that stuff. It didn't make Dogg Food. Dre gave it to 2Pac along with California Love. California Love was originally done for The Chronic 2 project, that was originally suppose to have been released on Death Row. That's why the California Love remix was created. The remix was made to fit more for 2Pac's album and for Dre to keep the original version with 2Pac for his album. Dre's The Chronic 2 didn't come out on Death Row because Dre left Death Row and pretty much shelved that project to began creating the album that later became The Aftermath compilation (1996). That's also why Dre set the record straight about the compilation (at the MTV's VMAs preshow in 1996) by stating that it's not The Chronic 2 project. @Mario Gutierrez Nice! That's what's up. Yeah, Dogg Food was released on Halloween of 1995. Got My Mind Made Up was originally for Dogg Food also. I think Daz took Rage's verse off to make room for 2Pac to get on the song and only used part of the ad-libs of Inspector Deck's verse for the end of that song.

Ambitionz of a Ridah, 2 of Amerikkas most wanted, Mind made up, Can't C Me, California Love, I Ain't Mad Atcha, all these songs & beats Dogg Pound & Dr Dre already had prior to Pac joining Deathrow. Like kurupt said when Pac came home they gave him all the heat!! That's why All Eyez On Me is a tru Deathrow album following the Deathrow formula. But the Makaveli album was Pac getting back to his Me Against the World - Strictly 4 My Niggaz days
Accurate. Also, according to Snoop, that Dj Pooh beat for "When We Ride" was his as well. Makes sense, because Dj Pooh did two beats on Dogg Food, and was co-lead producer on Tha Doggfather, so I'm sure the whole Dogg Pound was getting first dibs on his beats.
2pac worked so fast and wanted to be in the studio which is why he got all the beats!! He didn't take so long to get albums together so 1 producer couldn't keep up with 2pacs rate of completing songs!!

Glad pac took it. The original/solo version of California love is mid af. That second dre verse is forgettable. Had it been a dre solo song it wouldn't be as dope and would just be another random track dre has. 2pac made the song.
@@TosereOjeme Pac asked for the beat and suge made dre give it him. dre left, then snoop was unhappy therefore dpg was unhappy. Unfortunately pac and death row was a bad mix but the only way for pac to get out
“Can’t C me” is actually a sneaky crip diss, and instead popularised Piru’s. Not going by Tupacs lyrics as such..but listen to the intro by George Clinton bigging up the “P”. Now not saying George meant it that way, but obvious Suge had some influence over the writing! So instead of writing the song as “can’t see me”….Can’t C me has an alternative meaning as can’t Crip me!!
Why do they Act like "California Love" is such an original beat? Ultramagnetic MC's used a rendition of that "Woman to Woman" sample on their All time classic "Funky"

Real shit man. It's one of those albums that never get old no matter how much you listen to it. It's a shame that Daz didn't make beats like that again after Death Row
The Thing Is: 2pac Proved he don't need a Big Name producer. HE created a Masterpiece with Makaveli album using all the no name producers at Death Row. CLASSIC Case and Point: HAIL MARY for example.
nah bro, Carlifonia Love set him off good, he needed a big name producer, his music before did not go viral like that, Makaveli was a success due to all eyez on me plus he he got shot too and the hype grew
Dre didn't make that beat by himself but was helped by Quick. As well as on the entire 2001 album he was helped by Storch and Mike Elizondo. Listening to Kurupt it would seem that he would have made California Love even more a hit.
California love was Dre's baby it was originally a solo Dr Dre song with three verses. I have a hard time believing Dre would just give his baby up like that. Suge told him to
People always talk about how when 2pac got to Death Row. He had all the best producers such as: Dr. Dre, Daz, DJ Quick. When Johnny J (RIP) produced 11/27 track's on All Eyez On Me. Which was the most and 2pac co-produced 6/27 of the songs. Dre produced two and Daz 5. Quick one. He even used the wack room producers to make Makaveli album. Who didn't get many opportunities to produce on Death Row.
If you actually listen to Can't See Me it's really Snoop's beat from doggystyle What's My Name with Dr Dre just adding a few touches to it but it's the same beat......
2pac made both California Love & Can't C Me wayyyy better than the original versions from just Dre (Califonia Love) & DPG (Can't C Me) versions. The World needed more 2Pac & produced/featured Dr. Dre songs
The problem with Dre is it takes a long time to release music we probably would have never heard the song unless Tupac got on and put them on All eyes on me
Anywhere Ballerina ended up, things got destructive and ended up bad. Dre the wise one figured this real early and left. Snoop eventually did too. Then the rest where more like sheep, till today !

One slept on song on that album is CHECK OUT TIME, still a banger!!

That Chrous is legendary
That ain’t no sleeper on my playlist! 😂💯
@@OMGWorld100 right lol

2pac worked so fast and wanted to be in the studio which is why he got all the beats!! He didn't take so long to get albums together so 1 producer couldn't keep up with 2pacs rate of completing songs!!

Big up to Kurupt for shedding light on the actuality of things like that. That was a hell of a time, when Death Row was on top of the game. 🔥
DAZ needs to be mentioned more often with the other goats of beat making.
Daz & Quik & made all the heat for them! That’s a fact 🔥🔥🔥
And Quik
Ambitionz az a ridah is a Daz beat
@@OMGWorld100 daz was a huge part but people act like it’s a Daz album. If anything it’s a Johnny J album that was mixed by Quick. Johnny J has majority of the production, then Daz has like 7 songs and the rest is like Pooh, Bobcat Mike Mosley etc…it’s a 27 song album!
@@OMGWorld100 all facts, pimp. Quik is criminally underrated. Safe & sound and Rhythm-Al-Ism are in my top 10 favorite albums. Smooth ass beats.

Only PAC could have done that beat justice like it needed to be.
Definitely. Classic song. Classic pac verse. Classic video.

It was a perfect storm.
Dre killed it too
Big factz but to live & die in LA without gay ass DRE lol
had to listen to u can’t see me - to appreciate again it’s excellence
Glad pac took it. The original/solo version of California love is mid af. That second dre verse is forgettable. Had it been a dre solo song it wouldn't be as dope and would just be another random track dre has. 2pac made the song.
He gave Pac, Pac didn’t “take” it.

Same here. "Tradin' War Stories" is another one of my favorite instrumentals as well.
"You can't see me" is the same beat of what's my name by snoop dog
That was some of Suge's genius. Everybody stops and gives their best work to the next project. I think that only applied to Pac tho
Cause 2pac didn't take forever to do a song lol
@@jarvasedundy1 Big facts. Get the ish done, then get it out
Death Row always had that rule since The Chronic.
Yeah that probably pissed people off, that they had to give everything to pac
“Can’t C me” is actually a sneaky crip diss, and instead popularised Piru’s. Not going by Tupacs lyrics as such..but listen to the intro by George Clinton bigging up the “P”. Now not saying George meant it that way, but obvious Suge had some influence over the writing!
So instead of writing the song as “can’t see me”….Can’t C me has an alternative meaning as can’t Crip me!!
California Love is easily one of 2pac best song.

What's my name was 3 years earlier and the west coast hadn't had a new huge superstar in a while until Snoop dropped. I can't fathom why someone would even compare unless they caught onto west coast music late.

Yes sir
Best hip hop song of all time
first song i heard when i bought the tap when it was released.
Dogg Pound's "What Would You Do?" is up there as far as beats.
@B P No doubt, but when you think of Dr. Dre, it's that sound like What's My Name and G Thang. You feel me! What Would You Do is definitely 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is why Death Row failed eventually.
The other artists did not get their proper opportunities to carry the label and keep it strong.
I thought he was talking about the original version of the song, the version on All Eyes On Me, but at 2:00 it sounds like he sings the remix
I think the solo version of dre is on TH-cam. It definitely got better with Pac.. the original can't c me is also in TH-cam unless they removed it

Suge told him to
“Can’t C Me” is the same as Snoop’s “What’s my Name “

That first beat of California Love go way harder...
Exactly the original version
I could listen to Karrupt tell stories all day
Karrupt🤣
Another fact about Can't C Me, Dre reused the baseline from Snoops Who Am I Whats My Name.
2pac made both California Love & Can't C Me wayyyy better than the original versions from just Dre (Califonia Love) & DPG (Can't C Me) versions.
The World needed more 2Pac & produced/featured Dr. Dre songs

The remix is better in my opinion, the original is a good commercial song tho and better for the radio which is what is was intended for
If 2Pac wasn't on that track, it wouldn't have sold many. Only about 100,000.
Instead of admitting Pac got the song cause he sounded better than Kurupt or anyone else on the joint he just said “ it was his turn” .
That's not how they did it at death row.
That was the label structure suge put in place. Literally their protocol
The second version of California Love is my favorite. Love that video.

The problem with Dre is it takes a long time to release music we probably would have never heard the song unless Tupac got on and put them on All eyes on me

Dre the wise one figured this real early and left. Snoop eventually did too.
