      @@Kevinbrvo here's the thing Kevin, in a marriage the spouses are a team, a single unit. And so when it comes to potentially superfluous purchases, those things will generally be signed off by both parties concurrently. Thats why RG said he was going to go away and communicate the benefits of the Skierg to his wife, because a) they'll both be using it and b) chances are the money will come out of the joint account. Youre about to be very unlucky in love with your current attitude.

      @@angusmarch1066 100% agree. It’s a partnership. My partner and I run any big purchases by each other. I’m always happy when they can get something nice for themselves and vice versa. When you are in a partnership you share everything, including finances. It’s not a matter of “I wear the pants so I’ll just do it” - you need to be in harmony/unison together.

    The SkiErg is a wonderful teaching tool. We can work with our skiers and make corrections on poling properly for Nordic skiing. This is one of the very best aerobic tools. We love them.

  • @skipaddle
    @skipaddle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Advice from a skier... use hand straps. When you are double poling on snow releasing your hands from the handle helps relax your shoulders. Without the straps a skier would have to overgrip the ski handle. On the poling phase hands don't go past the hips, and you let to of the handle, so the straps keep the poles attached to your hands. Top marathon skiers in Europe do classic races like the Vasaloppet (90km) using skis without grip wax and use double poling only. I'd watch a video of one them training on the erg to get an idea of the body position and tempo.
    I find that since the ski erg workout is more of a core, lats and triceps workout it complements the rowing erg which is more of a lower body workout. So you can actually do a hybrid workout where you do some intervals on the rowing erg and you have a full body endurance workout.

  • @sandiegojoey1
    @sandiegojoey1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I started doing the SkiErg about eight months ago because of a hamstring injury that kept me from running. I have to say that it depends on your goal as to the proper technique. For example, if I am going for an all out 1000 m attempt to beat my PR I am going to use the full stroke top to bottom and therefore incorporating deep squats. Today I did 1000 m in 3 minutes and 41 seconds, I can’t imagine doing that without squatting in the downward motion.
    And when I do 250 m intervals with a 90 second rest I actually jump at the top in order to get an even downward pull that I know I couldn’t get the way you just described. Again, whenever I use the SkiErg I’m always red lining, I’m going all out.
    I like your videos and I appreciate what you’re doing, and next time I’m going to actually see how fast I can do 1000 meters in the upright position.

    • @littlelowy7
      @littlelowy7 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why do you think it's so much easier for me to redline and just workout to exhaustion with this compared to a treadmill or row machine ? Do these and put my phone timer on 1 minute and I do multiple sets and I'm dripping sweat. I actually am thinking about buying this machine as basically my first home gym machine haha I LOVE the one at my lifetime gym !

    Shane, you talk about SR being in the 40-65 range & low 30 being abnormally low. I'm putting in about 10K a day on the SkiErg & found (for me) that my best times come from a lower, stronger pull rate. That's just my experience.
    Thanks for your videos, bc you've completely changed how I row & made me much more efficient on the rower & SkiErg. i.e. - My warmup 2K row this morning was only 5 seconds off my PR from a year ago.

    I find it is highly intuitive. Really not that tricky.
    8-minute instructional video? A bit overkill.
    Excellent machine. The most underrated machine on the market, no doubt.
    You do this, and rowing, you're exercising EVERY muscle in your body. So complete.

    • @skipaddle
      @skipaddle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really. It can take several years for young skiers to learn how to technically correct double poling. 8 mins can only cover some of the main points. They've done all sorts of academic studies in Scandinavia looking at biomechanics and muscle activation patterns. People have done phd's on the subject. Much of it is counter-intuitive.

      @@skipaddle To be a competitive skier, yes, I'll buy that. / To get a good workout on this machine...several years, or even hours, of learning., are not necessary. / As for academic studies ... their existence is hardly proof that the subject in question merits extensive study. • @skipaddle
      @skipaddle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@justinpeterson2105 I don't agree. I have had chronic back problems and I had to learn technique just to be able to do it without injuring myself. I think if you have respect for your body and want to keep healthy you will learn to do something correctly. The "I just want to be fit " argument is a canard I hear a lot from mastersr athletes...especially middle-aged men. The academic studies were a main contributor to the superior performance of Norwegian and Swedish skiers, and the results were passed down to normal fitness skiers. Good technique helps you avoid injury and get better, more efficient workouts. When I see videos of cross fitters on the ski erg I just want to cringe.

Unlike what you see from cross-fit videos where you see them straigtening out their arms and extending on recovery which is an anti-pattern, the angle at the elbow should stay the same throughout the stroke until the end when your hands come to your hips. The back never goes flat but stays in a neutral position. th-cam.com/video/3IWx60e-t84/w-d-xo.html.
