I’m so proud that Jeff finally filled the sponsor spot with real sponsor. But I also kinda want to see the filler segment he almost definitely filmed in case this sponsor fell through 😂
I'm a bit disappointed that he took a VPN sponsorship, but money's money I guess, at least he took the "watch stuff you couldn't anymore" approach rather than the preying on people's misconceptions about how the internet works approach.
@@kandigloss6438 I mean, he read the ad copy.
@kandigloss6438 VPNs are useful and not that expensive.
they also DO obscure data that otherwise your ISP would have. namely being a proxy so your isp doesn't actually have the information of which websites you're visiting. they can see that you're connected to a VPN, and talking to the VPN, but don't know whose packets are going where after the VPN service.
that's good. not a panacea for internet safety, but it's a step towards anonymity most people wouldn't make if not for region locked content on streaming services.
The patreon bumper is nice tho

“Anybody could’ve done it; many could’ve done it better, but they didn’t.”
Is one of my new favorite quotes. It perfectly illustrates what art is as a whole. When you create something like a TH-cam video or a song or a painting or whatever it is you create… you are the only person in the world to have made exactly what you made. And despite people saying, “I could have done that…” the simple fact is that they didn’t. And that makes all the difference
Reminds me of "If you guys were the inventors of Facebook, you'd have invented Facebook."
@@Doddsie212yes Facebook is way better than all of Art.
Art is created in two steps: first comes the idea, then comes the execution. Anyone can execute an idea, some better than others, but the same can't be said for thinking up an idea. That's all on you, and it's something to take pride in
@@zeppie_ Ideas are cheap and easy to come by actually. Art is in the execution more than the conceptualization, and is an iterative process where the initial idea has a variable effect on the outcome. Yes, in illustration as well as animation, game design, writing, and other time-consuming art forms. What I'm really getting at is that generative AI doesn't make "art" and the fact we allowed that marketing ploy as a culture is shameful.
I love the way Senn's character just gets "Delivered" to you every time.

I can't wait for the next video where you find the identity of the cadaver Acuris based the skeleton model on, and the manufacturer of the trumpet Oostveen used as reference
The plot twist will be that they are, in fact, the same individual (who was also at SIGGRAPH)
Cathy Jarboe's grandfather, I presume at this point, who was also probably the main investor for a small startup company called Viewpoint Datalabs.
He will then need to talk about the ancestors of whoever the cadaver belonged to and find the person who designed the real trumpet.
They will also be the person who played the cavalry bugle call that was used in Wolf Pupy's video.

I don't know anything about metadata but I assume if she did, the original gif would've tracked back to the model. Again though, I don't know anything about how that works so I'm probably completely wrong.
@@TheGold1knightNo, most likely not. Metadata is just extra stuff bundled in with a file that isn't relevant to the functionality of the file, like a description, a date of creation, or an author. A gif is just a video file, it has nothing to do with what 3D models you can see in it, so it would make no sense to add that to the metadata that you don't even see normally.
I do know quite a bit about file structure and programming in general. I've written a lot of stuff over the years. Nothing you would have heard of, though. (a physics engine for simulating car engines, various bits of firmware for embedded applications, etc.)
the screaming about the model was hilarious! Always a fan of these investigative deep dives.

My two leading theories:
1. Jeff somehow missed the memo that the guy is a stealing nazi scumbag
2. Jeff had already gotten the voiceline and edited that part *before* the HBG video and some factor (sponsor deadline, forgor, etc) lead to him neither redubbing the section himself nor adding a note about it

HE GOT A SPONSOR!!! I'M SO HAPPY!

Completely justified.
Interestingly, the trumpet is missing the first valve finger ring, which would influence tuning slightly when playing low notes with the third valve, and the pinky finger ring, which is extremely important in supporting the instrument. Here , all of the weight would rest on the middle or ring finger of your left hand, which would influence valve action slightly and make the third valve slide useless, as well as being uncomfortable.
damn
Definitely not, it would be a fine trumpet
While yes, missing the tuning on the first valve would effect playing the low D especially, there are examples of trumpets without the tuning valve ring on either end. or just one on the third. though these examples tend to be older or custom jobs. i have, however heard of some professional trumpet players who completely ignore the first tuning slide
And i for one have played trumpets with missing pinky rings on the top of the main valve. using your left ring finger and right thumb, its easy enough to lift the trumpet when you are doing those low d notes to kick out the valves. and when you aren't doing that you can just wrap your thumb and pointer/middle finger around the whole valve assembly
This is ignoring the fact that the trumpet model definitely still has the pinky ring on the main tuning valve. I found senns original tweet and downloaded the converted trumpet file to look at it closer and for one, it still has the ring.
And on the topic of the missing first tuning valve ring,, given the very interesting details they got right on it or that are too specific like multiple supports on the main tuning slide, details underneath the third valve, and certain shapes and curves to the trumpet that they just got right like rings on the mouthpiece and some of the subtle shapes and curves of the metal I'm almost certain this was based on a very specific trumpet and not just someone creating a generic trumpet. which would make me think this was not just *a* trumpet but probably a very nice trumpet, maybe custom made. i just simply can not believe that the designer forgot an entire tuning finger ring.
Damn, life ruined.
Some of those comments asking for the 3d models instead of the person who animated the gif are actually awful people. “Who cares about some 40 year old woman” and “the modelers are the real authors, not cathy”
To the first guy, they’re just fucking assholes. To the second guy, i guess that because J.K. Rowling didn’t invent the ENTIRETY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE, she’s not the real author of the Harry Potter books, right? Nor is Frank Miller the author of The Dark Knight Returns because he didn’t create the character of Batman?
Oh what irony that companies who (sometimes with questionable legality) dumped a ton of internet content on CD-Roms are now archivalist's saviours.
Great video, love the humor, editing, narrative structure, etc. 👍🏻
so rediculously common tbh
@@LiEnby what's so common?
I'd argue the disagreement about "who made skull trumpet" towards the beginning is incorrect, but the difference is pedantic; since the 3D model is a component of the art rather than a subject of the artist, it's more like saying we don't know who made the Mona Lisa because we don't know who made the paint.
You should do a deep dive into that lost song, "Like the Wind" that people on the net have been researching for years. We still don't have a 100% definitive answer for who wrote and performed it. Just a lot of theories.

The improvement in production value is insane, and it makes me immensely excited for what's to come from my new favorite YT channel here.
Just wanted to comment on the "you could buy the same CDs in the same building" thing:
It's not as crazy as it would seem. From our perspective, for the skull trumpet to appear, someone would *have* to have purchased them in that exact year. But that's not really how it worked, Cathy perhaps didn't go to Siggraph (I'm making an assumption here that she did, in fact, attend) with the express idea to create the skull trumpet. If she didn't go, i would say it's still not that weird: someone attended Siggraph, bought many CDs, perhaps uploaded them onto the internet, where Cathy found them. Same website because of the same place of purchase. It's still a cool fact, mind you, but as with so many things, they get created with the tools available to the artist at the time.
Yeah, also SIGGRAPH is to 3D what E3 is to videogames.

I find it ironic how jeff has a whole segment on how he doesnt want to take credit for something someone else did, yet internet historian has a cameo in this.
Also good video btw, the editing was incredibly interesting and pleasing to the eyes.
I do think that that segment was also inspired by the whole plagiarism narrative that hhbomber guy set up. I do not know if was an unintentional jab to Internet Historian, who literally did the complete opposite of Jeff on this video: Both did a great video, with their own editing style and narration, about a cool story. However, Jeff made it very clear that he is only presenting the story, the ones who actually found everything were other talented people, and fully credits them. IH, instead, seemed to hide the fact that he did not researched the actual story, and insted of crediting the actual journalists that did (and also even wrote it and publish it) he makes it seem that he did everything, while he was in fact, as other have pointed out, ironically "reading something that others did", just as he did on his cameo of this video.

I'm gonna assume the Internet Historian cameo was planned before the Hbomberguy video but even then yeesh. I feel like its been known what kinda guy he is for a while.
The fact he had people call out all the Nazi dogwhistles in his video + the hbomb plagiarism thing and then he just went radio silent is pretty damning. It was a purposeful run away and wait for people to forget situation too, he has a trello board which at the time of the hbomb video releasing had multiple videos being ready to publish, on top of that he said he was gonna have a tie in video on his second channel a few days after when he released a main channel video. In between his main channel video coming out hbomb released his and the Nazi stuff came out and only now has he released that tie in video. It’s so pathetic

@@laz7777 that's the median age of internet historian viewers. Also, since when was caring about plagiarism a kid thing? Have you seen most kids' school essays? I'm more inclined to think that kids actually dont care about plagiarism and other academic standards.
Featuring the Internet Historian in a video about finding and showing sources is ironic and disappointing. Cathy Jarboe is the exact kind of person IH would steal content from and pass it off as originally his, tossing her memory in to oblivion. Incredibly high quality video otherwise, you are a great story teller and the structure of your videos is amazingly good.
Greatest thanks for Senn for finding the models and Jeff for making this video and putting the whole thing together.
Both of you guys did an incredible work, you are legends!
Phenomenal work from everyone involved, it's amazing to see the journey from the beginning of the last video to having every question answered about the gif!
You forgot to credit NightMind aka Nick Nocturne for his voiceover in the video description
Nick is credited at the end of the video.
Was that Internet Historian? You're making it dude!
Your stories make me feel things, and I'm glad you're here telling them. I always get excited when I see you've released a new one. I hope you're able to do this for as long as you want to. 😊
I love your editing, story, drama, and that out to, great song choice! I watched the first video before this was out and I also loved that too, I can’t wait to see what else you do in a similar style to this!
Cool, you got the plagiarism guy to read off someone else's comment.
