With that whole thing you talked about used batteries being sold as new, I ran into this total scam just yesterday. I bought a "new" battery for a Motorola Droid turbo 2 on Amazon. It was one of the ones you said with a sticker on it. The battery was completely dead and didn't work at all. I decided to peel the sticker off and underneath was a motorola logo and a big "x" on it. This makes me think it was a genuine battery taken out of a phone which they knew was bad and then sold it to me as new.
Yo, I ordered a battery off amazon for a Dell laptop and it still isn't powering on due to a battery error code. I'll have to check it when I get home!!
My fav iPhone to fix was (and is still) the 6 and 6s models. They were the quickest and easiest phones by Apple to make repairs on. Man, I miss those days😉
When I first started doing iPhone repairs like 5 years ago, somebody asked me to do a 14k gold back housing swap on a 6s. Looked just like that one. I was so scared to do it 😂, but I quoted him a pricey cost for it. Think I charged him like $250 and he provided the part.
@@frootloot6789 Assuming it's just a phone, you can probably get away with a thin layer of gold in order to get that sort of color shown in the video. So, to do something like this, it would cost ~$50 at the least.
This dude literally speaks like he is demonstrating how do fix these phones. Well I'm a overweight discord mod and I doubt my fat fingers can hold thr tiny parts.
The problem with the home and sleep button of the gold iphone has to do with pry damage between the battery and motherboard caused most likely by the previous owner trying to get out the battery with a tool because the pull sticker breaks easily. I know this because I have had done this exact thing once causing me to have these buttons not working (always pressing). When looking on the motherboard next to the battery with a microscope you should be able to see missing electrical components that are responsible for the sleep/home button function.
Years ago the company that owned Suncoast movies and Musicland stores did a test concept store (20 total locations) that would "paint" your phone any color you wanted including car brand specific colors among other items such as DVD/CD on demand -- producing DVDs of shows/movies that were low priority, damaged, or out of print, custom screen printing of clothing, reprinting thousands of movie/concert posters and other niche items all with the authority of the product owners. Sadly Suncoast didn't continue it in spite of the massive success of those locations
The fact you managed to get a gold plated iPhone in your lot is just, wow! That thing put the worth of that lot way up given the actual price of gold on the markets today.
@@superpacman256 I know, thats why I suggested he put the guts of an SE in the Gold frame. or now that he has managed to get the 5s working, he can put the guts of that in it instead.
I once got a huge lot of iPhones and got 2 custom phones. One was a blue 6S+ and had a black dot on the screen, iCloud locked, and poorly fixed phone with missing screws. The other was just the housing, but was in better condition. It was a 6S+ housing made to look like a 7+
I got heaps of stuff, iPads ,iphones ,iPod , Nintendo ds etc given to me , most working ,some just missing chargers. I just don’t have the tools to pull them apart. Just starting out with my hobby
My mum had a 5S. Fell in water 4 times and still went strong. Then the battery expanded when she got a new phone finally, and it ended up cracking the top screen in half. Scary.
The ipod nano with the weird screen is a display issue, dankpods made a video about it where he dropped and ipod (I think it was a 4th gen classic) and the same thing happened
Hi Hugh, great video as always. Your videos have inspired me to start repairing phones for friends and family and I was recently thinking of turning this into a full fledged business. Any tips?
start with like super low prices (maybe like 10 an hour) build a reputation and go higher after. Also make sure to do a proper job and if possible educate yourself to do actual repairs such as chip replacements and not just parts replacements. Also try and get a source for bulk parts.
And please use quality parts/tools and take care. I paid a newer repair person $100 to repair my old Xperia, and while he managed to source genuine original parts, he used cheap glue (both parts are now falling off) and the camera and earspeaker are now dead. Really got me put off repairing phones.
Hey H.J., This could be an used battery. I'm not gonna say how but if you treat the text on original Apple battery with a certain chemical fluid, which can be bought by anyone in most countries, you can just wipe off the text and stamps on the battery ;) I actually saw that trick on a certain video platform called Coub and after trying it out, I was able to wipe the text off without damaging the battery. However, if you find that tutorial and want to try it out, buy medical handgloves (the blue ones) because the fluid can make your skin a bit rough. You can describe the state of the skin as an "Sandpaper skin" : P Don't ask me how I found that one out
I just assumed it was a random person buying a custom case and biting off a bit more than they can chew, gosh I hope they're not charging people for that kind of shoddy work!
Geez, things have come a long way (for the worse) in repairs of these phones! Nowadays there are several different styles, sizes and depth of proprietary screws, chipsets that will not work with new batteries, camera modules etc and USB/other things soldered onto the MB vs little clips.
whoever tried to put that phone together would have had to have been a complete novice, like their first attempt at phone repair/mods also, go QLD for producing the gaudy gold body! woo!
