    OH MY GOODNESS! I am a 72 year old woman. Right now I am going through a very stressful time and I was flipping through channels the other night, couldn't sleep, and I found the two of you! I was awake untill 4:00 AM! So much FUN! Amber you are so innocent and refreshing! You are such a perfect couple, thoughtful and kind to each other. Your reactions to the music, I grew up with made me laugh, I guess, I take the past intertainers for granted and you make me see them in a whole new light. Your girls are adorable and I can't wait to see the baby! Thank you, for the memories, the smiles, the reminder that tomorrow will be better, life is good, and for sharing yourselves with me. God bless.

    "Blue Suede Shoes" is a cover of a song originally written and recorded by Carl Perkins, who was a label mate at Sun Records with Elvis Presley, and they were good friends.
    Here is an interesting story. When Sun Records was about to release "Blue Suede Shoes" as a single, Carl Perkins got into a bad automobile accident, and was hospitalized for his injuries. When Elvis Presley was making his series of TV appearances on "The Stage Show" on CBS, Presley was facing pressure by RCA Records to perform his version of "Blues Suede Shoes" on television first. Elvis Presley refused to perform the song on the program as a matter of principle, until Carl Perkins recuperated from his injuries, and was able to perform the song on television himself. Presley kept his word, and after Perkins performed the song on television, Presley finally performed the song himself on television also.

    Not a song by Elvis, but 2 songs about Elvis that you might want to preview. 1) Walking In Memphis by Marc Cohn. This one is very blues with INCREDIBLE piano sounds. 2) Black Velvet by Alannah Myles. This one is damn sultry rock. Little known fact: Carl's original recording of his song 'Blue Suede Shoes' charted higher than Elvis' version! But Elvis good looks, dance moves, and overall charisma made the song the launching point of a much bigger career. Carl, who was a perfect gentleman, always admitted that he had a wife and kids and didn't have Elvis good looks and described himself as having a voice like a pail of gravel - so he was never going to be Elvis Presley. But Carl was delighted to say that royalties from Elvis' recording bought him a lot of Cadillacs over the years. Carl was also an excellent guitarist and was a pioneer of the rockabilly sound.

  • @tombeyerlein3813
    @tombeyerlein3813 2 ปีที่แล้ว +64

    • @blackkat563
      @blackkat563 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ronaldackerman7383 why would Elvis be concerned about Buddy Holly? All he can do is write songs and can't singer like Elvis. Elvis was all at one a Baritone, tenor and bass. He could sing anything. Elvis was the whole package. As Carl Perkins said once, " Elvis had everything. He had the looks, the moves, the manager, and the talent. And he didn't look like Mr. Ed, like a lot of us did, Elvis was hitting them with sideburns, flashy clothes, and no ring on the finger. I had three kids."

    Chuck Berry was very popular in the mid 50's. Elvis recorded a lot of his songs. Since I take it that both of you are teachers the obvious song to listen to is "School Days (Ring! Ring! goes the Bell)" It was a massive hit and became somewhat of an anthem for Rock and Roll.
    But you can't do the 50's without the Platters.

    Tracks like That'll Be The Day, Rave On, Everyday, True Love Ways, Peggy Sue, Not Fade Away, Oh Boy, It Doesn't Matter Anymore, Raining In My Heart and a few others are all classics.

    For a competitor to Elvis, check out Ricky Nelson, who also had a great rockabilly game. Ricky started out on a family sitcom with his parents and brother, called The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. As Ricky got older and started performing, his parents started incorporating his singing into the series, eventually adding a full performance at the end of most (maybe all) episodes. Good reaction songs would be Travelin' Man, Hello Mary Lou, Poor Little Fool, I Will Follow You, and Garden Party. Here's a link:th-cam.com/video/zLkCWT2neuI/w-d-xo.html

    Back then as far as I'm concerned there was Elvis and then there was everyone else. And today there is Elvis and then there is everything else. But he started in suits and regular clothes in the 50s then after that it was many years of movies and few concerts but by 69 70 the jumpsuits and bling came. His extra weight came very near the end. RIP. I saw him at the Fairground arena in 1970. One of the biggest highlights of my life

      I'd also add that the weight did come on late in life, and was due to medical problems--I can't remember the specifics, but my doctor treated Elvis in his later years and told me this. No doubt diet and drugs also contributed, but apparently it was largely related to health problems.

    So, I know this comment is late, haha, but... Elvis wasn't exactly "toned down" in the 50s, by 50s standards. For instance, he had a gold lame suit, and he loved wearing pants with pink stripes down the sides, loud suit jackets, etc. He stood out big time in the 50s, it's just... most of that footage is in black and white. 😂 The jumpsuits started in/around 1970, the first year after he returned to live performing after 9 years making movies. They got progressively more elaborate as the years went by, and Elvis liked them that way, they were part of the show to him.
    Super cool reaction, and I'm going to second 'Teddy Bear;, for "fun" 50s Elvis along with 'Treat Me Nice', 'Don't Be Cruel', and 'Ready Teddy'. But because my favorite Elvis is late 60s/early 70s, I'll recommend a double header of 'The Wonder of You' and 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me' since no on ever recommends those! ( th-cam.com/video/Y59yBBbJC6E/w-d-xo.html )

Now there were many imitators, Rick Nelson, Fabian, Gene Vincent, etc. Lastly, the "Iconic" look was actually right there, early in 1956 as Elvis appeared nationwide. As Led Zeppelin and Elvis fans, thought you might like this story:
    In 1973 he met with Led Zeppelin members Robert Plant and John Paul Jones in Los Angeles. An idol to the members of Led Zeppelin, Elvis wanted to meet "who was outselling him" at concerts (Zeppelin was in the midst of a record-breaking tour that year). A meeting was arranged with Plant and Jones. Plant was so awestruck at meeting his idol in person that he could barely speak to him. Jones, nearly as awestruck as Plant, made small talk with the "King," and mentioned what a beautiful watch Elvis wore. Elvis, always the generous one, instantly traded his $5,000 gold and diamond watch for Jones' $10 Mickey Mouse watch. This broke the ice with all of them, and they became fast friends. Throughout the early 1970s members of Led Zeppelin even attended a few of Elvis' concerts, and were granted the privilege of sitting in the front row by the King himself!

    Another good reaction team RSquad
    Correct me if I’m wrong but this song was in the first era of Elvis, why his voice was so pure and strong, the comeback era after the army and disappointment of movies he’d obviously changed and matured then the 3rd and final era was his final era, post marriage Vegas, death etc still remember the day in 77 I was a kid, it was massive news sad.
    Ladies and gentlemen Elvis has left the building,…….!
    Who was number 2 Elvis once said Roy Orbison had the best voice in Rock n Roll, but you had Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis you reacted to the other day, Gene Pitney, Rick Nelson, Bobbi Darin, Frankie lane, Chubbie Checker, Chuck Berry, Frankie Avalon, Otis Redding, so many bands, but aid say second to Elvis was probably Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Holly was 22 and Valens 17 when the music died. In that plane crash that killed them and the Big Bopper, if you haven’t reacted to By Bye Miss American Pie by Don MaClean then you should, but because Elvis spoke so highly of Roy Orbison you’d have to put him in there alongside those, prob many others, not my era, but my parents always played this music.🤘
