I'm so glad he talked about the maggots... I had the same situation happen and was so traumatised seeing those maggots, and had a hard time talking about it lol...
Actually, those maggots probably helped. Maggots are used by medical staff when you have dead flesh in a wound to clear it out as they eat all the dead flesh and leave the alive stuff. They clean it out so well they're used on purpose. So, he would have had dead flesh in there rotting away and the maggots actually probably helped clear that crap out. Obviously, they have to be removed etc, but maggots are your friend when you have dead flesh in a wound. Narly, but true.

Great clip. This is a criminally underappreciated podcast. It definitely stands out amongst the litany of youtube podcast channels.
The maggots as nasty as it is probably kept him from getting gangrene or an infection maggots only eat rotting flesh, but I seriously almost puked.

Totally depends on the type of maggot. Some eat only dead flesh, some eat only live flesh, and some eat both.

It is not rare to have a wound with maggots in it. In some places they still actually put maggots on wounds to prevent tissue loss and putrefaction, as they only eat dead flesh that would become septic otherwise. The maggots might have saved his leg, and maybe his life. A surface wound infection associated with an underlying compound fracture is a bad combination.

Yep -- an infection like that can go systemic quick and that's that -- you're dead. It is typical bush medicinal practice to pack the wound so maggots will form

Maggots only eat dead flesh, they don't actually harm you. In fact, it can be helpful.
Never give up on your dreams and aspirations and remember to be kind and uplifting to each other and open minded and genuine.
I mean don't get me wrong in the maggots are pretty gnarly as far as a visual is concerned but they feed on dead skin and decaying material so they don't really do any harm cuz they won't eat anything that isn't dead or decomposing. They still use maggots to keep large wounds clean in some countries.
Lets get real, Beagle didn't really have last part in Baker 3. Sure his part came after Herman's, but the credits rolled before then. Hard to really count that

It's really sad that he injured his leg this bad because he was a really talented and gnarly skater. You will always be a legendary skateboarder even if you had to change your style and go to skateboarding spots.

First off I gotta say that I absolutely love the podcast, it really helps make the time fly by while I'm at work or on the train heading home. But I can't express with words how much I was cringing while fighting back the urge to gag during this part of the interview. As much as it was grossing the ever loving shit out of me I just couldn't stop listening. The mental imagines alone is absolute nightmare fuel. Anyway keep up the kick ass work gentlemen. Cheers.

As a motorcyclist since I was 18 just getting into skating again it’s nice to hear pros talk about my passion.
It’s funny, I didn’t even have to ask for a motorcycle, my parents had an extra motorcycle nobody was riding so they gifted it to me, “here you ride it.”
Alot of the legendary skateboarders have had very unfortunate things happen to them.. especially the baker team. Ali was one of my favorite skaters of all time then he had his bike accident and got charged with manslaughter for crashing and his friend tragically losing his life.

This shit gave me a fucking ptsd episode, I broke my leg in a similar manner, except I got hit by a motor cycle, pinned between a car bumper and bike, tib-fib compound fracture, little over a year of recovery time. This was back in 2004

I remember skating with this kid at vv high I know I'm at least 4 years older than him he looks so old now lol he had a little buddy that skated with him I forget that kids name but he accused me of stealing his board he found it in the pharmacy ambulance..lol poor kid almost got his ass whooped for nothing ...
